No landlords take section 8 so the voucher is basically worthless and the apartments could take up to 12 years to get a chance at one of them. Then the apartments happen to be right in the middle of the battle grounds so who knows if you're gonna catch a stray one flying by... just saying.

Poor Customer service. Calls are not returned in a timely manner. Eligibility worker was rude and hung up on me during our conversation. This program did not accept me because my job did not work out. I was collecting unemployment benefits and that is income. I am looking for stable work. I gave them a Doctor's note with my disability and they did not take that into consideration. Program turned me down because I am poor.

Even though this has been a difficult time with Covid-19, the Housing Authority in Salinas have been very accommodating by phone and/or email. I am very impressed and very thankful for the help I have received.

Our experience as renters of a project for the Housing Authority is one of mixed feelings. You see, lots of individuals have the perception that whoever rents from this establishment is somehow uneducated or illiterate. That is not always the case. I have known some very hard working families and have had kind neighbors, but there are many, many individuals who take advantage of the resources that Housing has to offer and the worst thing is that the Housing Authority is fully aware. In addition, if you ever report fraud to your manager or the main office it will ALWAYS go unnoticed. The reason I am so certain is because I have reported many things time and time again- and I have been told that I am considered the 'whiner.' It seems the personnel labels us tenants. I have written complaints in every way possible such as typed, hand-written, by email and nothing has ever been taken into consideration. My family and I have witnessed time and time again illicit activity over the years- yet they turn the other way. I will tell you who I am grateful to, to HUD. And I will most certainly write a long detailed letter to them making an official complaint about their managing establishment which is Housing. To all legitimate renters and future tenants with housing I am telling you now, do not remain silent and always question everything.
