The animation team was very good. The hotel is what you would expect from an all inclusive but not much more, the beach of the hotel is not very big, the restaurants are very good too. The bad thing is that as soon as one arrives they want to sell you the membership of the chain and they make you lose almost an entire morning.
My wife and I and another couple just returned from Ocean Maya. We had never been and were relying on our friends friend that is a travel agent and recommended it. We were very happy with the whole experience. We were welcomed at the front desk by Israel (trainee) who was extremely polite and professional-great job Israel! From there the service was top notch and the entire staff was extremely professional and made you feel at home.
The whole resort operates like a well oiled machine. From the landscapers to the waiters and receptionist desk and everyone in between. Very impressive. They all bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. The beach was kept clean and water was very clear toward the tail end of our trip. All of the restaurants were very good and gave you enough options to where you didn't get bored with the same food. Our favorite food, of course, was the CHEESE FRIES. We're American after all! We also did the Xel Ha park and that was the highlight of our trip..would highly recommend everyone take a day and do the snorkeling, lazy river there. Very beautiful place.

We had a great stay at OMR. The restaurants were very good and the buffet was ok, although I was disappointed by the lack of seafood there.
A negative was that our fridge wasn t working when we got there and it also had some mold inside it. I had to ask on 3 or 4 separate occasions at the front desk to get this remedied and I eventually just waited there until I could escort staff to my room. They never did clean the mold so we didn t bother opening the fridge again.
By far, what made our trip so great was the entertainment staff. From beach volleyball to random pool games and foam parties, they were great to have and made everybody laugh.
A special shout out to Arturo Sexy Papi and Marena, they were so friendly and welcoming!

This was our second visit to the Ocean Maya Royale. Amazing! The resort is smaller so it's much more intimate. I highly recommend upgrading to the privilege package which includes upgraded alcohol, an extra restaurant option for breakfast, lunch, & dinner, a quiet privilege beach area where you get food and drink service all day and 24 hour room service. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating! There are 2 pools, one for the party people where they play dance music and do foam parties with a swim up bar and one that is quiet if you just want to relax. You also get drink service at the quiet pool. We will definitely return!
I loved the place, I had never been to Playa del Carmen and without a doubt I was wrong to choose the hotel, everything added to an unforgettable experience, from a simple breakfast at the hotel to the tour in the Bacalar lagoon, the landscapes and All the staff that works there are incredible and a special recognition has Ines and Selza who made me enjoy every moment of my stay.

I just returned from a 7-Day vacation with my husband and friends at the Ocean Maya. This was by far our best trip ever! The grounds on the resort are very beautiful with many little hidden areas for photo opportunities. Lots of wildlife, watch out for the iguanas.
We stayed in a privilege junior suite. The room was not representative of the hotel photos with no separate sitting area, but it was still comfortable and appointed.
The multiple bars at the resort tended to get overwhelmed at peak times. The bartenders had a hard time to keep up and drinks quality suffered . The clear liquors definitely tasted watered down. I ordered a pink lady cocktail at the lobby bar that was made so quickly that it barely had any alcohol in it at all as the bartender was rushing and splashing rather than measuring.
There are two pool areas, a quiet pool and a party pool. The pool water needs better treatment as I saw floating scum in both pools. There was actually a sticky green scum line on the tile in the party pool. I did see chemical testers once while I was there. With the large amount of people in the pool daily combined with all the sunscreen, a more frequent care schedule is necessary. The deck area around the pool was also never washed down. I saw the same spot where a guest dropped ice cream left to dry for the entire week rather than being cleaned away . Also multiple cigarette butts and balloons left over from the foam party.
Food here was really hit-or-miss. We ate at the blue Moon restaurant twice. The filet was so good the first time that we came back. The second meal was very slow and the steaks over cooked. All of the restaurants in general seem to be understaffed. The servers were actually running to try to keep up with the tables.
The buffet restaurant, la Hacienda, had a great variety for all of the meals. This was the first Mexican restaurant that had good baked goods. My one criticism is that this space is very loud . Octavio was fantastic and attentive serving our lunch on our last day.
El Charro Mexican restaurant was delicious! Manolo worked very hard for us to get the perfect spicy margarita.
The Privilege restaurant breakfast was extremely slow. Once again I felt that they were understaffed and the servers were literally running from table to table. I ordered the eggs benedict cooked medium and received two hard boiled eggs on an English muffin. It took me 1 hour to receive my breakfast and so I did not return for breakfast again. I did order the steak and lobster dinner at the same restaurant and the pace was much better and my food was extraordinary.
Entertainment at the Ocean Maya was the best of any Mexican resort that I have ever stayed at. Merana, Arturo and Rodrigo provide constant games, fun lessons and smiles. During the week stay I made paella, guacamole, cocktails, painted t-shirts, and beaded bracelets. The foam party two times a week is a great idea for someone coming in late on a weekend and missing the Sunday party. So much fun and great music but don't get the soap in your eyes! Warning, do not leave food unattended outside by the pool as animals will swarm the area and make a mess. The night time entertainment, shows and live bands were all top notch. The same daytime crew of Merana,Arturo and Rodrigo, work until 11pm!
I will end by saying that the Ocean Maya is not perfect in all aspects but still a stellar resort that I will definitely be returning to again and again.
Rodrigo and Arturo made the holiday for me. I arrived stressed as my husband and I have a busy jobs and we struggle to relax sometimes even on holiday. They are so professional and inclusive. They just have the ability to make you smile and feel happy. Absolutely loved our holiday and I couldn t recommend it enough to everyone. Thanks guys and we will be back. X
Ocean Maya Royale was by far one of the best all-inclusive resorts I've been too. The food well excellent! Hibachi was by far my favourite. What really made our stay amazing was the entertainment team! Seeing Arturo and Marlena just brightened our days! Can't wait to go back again!

Resort food everything was amazing! Couldn t have asked for anything more! Blue moon restaurant was definitely my favourite food was incredible! It is very good hotel. The staff is very friendly, the food is good, the liquors are acceptable. The rooms are very spacious, the natural landscape is beautiful and there are many species of mammals, birds and lizards that coexist in relative harmony with the guests and hotel staff. The only sin of the place is that it definitely has no beach. And that's the way there is NO beach where you can get one. This big problem is solved by renting a car and visiting the multiple places that exist near the hotel.
Rodrigo made everyone feel accepted and welcome to join in any pool games or activities. Him and marina are the reason we will return. The hotel was okay, food was good. But the entertainment was what we will come back for! Great job and thank you rodrigo and marnia! Management should know that these two are an asset to their property!

We are enjoying our last day here at Ocean Maya and are very sad to go... There was something to enjoy for everyone in our group. Wide selection of food and very flavorful. Also really enjoyed the smoothie and ice cream stands. Drinks are great! The shows are worth seeing in the evening. The staff in general is always kind and welcoming. The entertainment staff is amazing! They really have a way with people. The shows are very well put together. The pools are nice. One main party pool with a swim up bar and one more relaxed. My only suggestion would be... Make sure you arrive to buffets and shows early.... The available chairs can feel limited at times. Also, not much of a BEACH resort. Small beach area which was fine with us because the pools were great.

Food: all inclusive is bs! The portions are soo small and there is not many options at the buffet. Definitely order 2 or 3 portions to get your moneys worth or dont go with the all inclusive options at other places. Room services takesnforever and the food is not goo. We had a bad experience with one of the hostess. (We are latinos by the way.) we got in line to be seated and a couple behind us walked in the door (white) and the hostess skipped us and sat the couple behind us.
Aside from this, all the staff was great and curteous! We made sure to take our belongings with us and to lock any valuables we left in the room. I had my clothes and shoes out and i never got anything stoledkeep in mind e took precautions.
Activities: there was not much to do here honestly. Theres two pools and there is nothing special about them. The beach was hard to access because its to the side. In addition, we went in October so westher wasnt great and mo one was allowed in the ocean. The jet skis and canoes etc, were not able to be used for the same reason.
Bar: free alcohol is great....not realistically beer and other alcoholic beverages ae cheabought epsewhere or individually. All inclusive charges way more for what you will actually consume.
Obviously asses this based on your needs!!

Made a booking for this hotel online through a third party site. Now trying to confirm it with the hotel itself. They haven t answered their phone in 3 days. How is a 5 star hotel so unresponsive when calling?! Such bad customer customer service. Even messaged on Facebook too and now emailed. Pay someone to be available on your phone line!

Two fantastic weeks spent lounging about and being royally pampered. Staff helpful, coutreous and fanatical about good service. Clean and the food was fantastic. Italian restaurant overlooking the ocean a real treat. Thompson rep a star and great advice given for day trips and nothing was too much trouble for all the bar and waiters/resses. Bar staff great. All in all I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

let's get this out of the way, the food and drink options could be better, but you will find something to eat that you like (I liked the tacos, taquitos, and the breakfast options) and beer is beer. As for the rest, the place is nice, manicured grounds, cool wildlife everywhere, great swimming pools, and the beach had nice fine sand and they cleared all the seaweed every morning. The rooms were updated and nice, cold A/C, and nice bathrooms. The service was top notch, especially Miguel in the sports bar. There was also plenty of other young fun people around as well. It was well worth the $$.

This was our first time staying at Ocean Maya Royale. Overall the hotel would be four stars in our opinion, but the staff made it five stars. El Charro and Blue Moon had excellent food. The staff at the bars, the pool, and the restaurants were superb. Rodrigo from the entertainment staff had everyone all smiles and laughs the entire time. His personality brought out the best in everyone! Diego, Jony, And Miguel at the pool bar were extremely friendly and fun! Rolando and Abel at the restaurants were our favorite servers! Etna the photographer was one of the sweetest! She s a ray of sunshine! Overall we had an excellent time and will be back!
This was my first visit to an all-inclusive so I don't have a lot to compare it to but my friend and I had a great time. The beach was not exactly swim-able - Water was turbulent and full of seaweed. A small boardwalk keeps the waves from washing the beach away. It's a very relaxing place to sit, sleep and read. Just get there early to put a towel over a lounge chair to claim it. The area does fill up! Premier would get you a seat on the beach which doesn't have a boardwalk between you and the ocean.
Pools were nice, clean and didn't have that gross chlorine smell and feel. The poolside bar was a highlight and the shape, style and decor of the pool area definitely made me feel like I was living the high life.
Food was good on my end but my vegan friend was pretty ready to get some other food by day 3 or 4. The buffet helped for this but not everything you'd think would be vegan was labelled as such. Breakfast in particular didn't have a lot of vegan options and definitely not a lot of protein options for her. We tried the Italian restaurant (beautiful beach view and sea breeze while you eat!) and they kindly custom made her some food since nothing on the menu was vegan (basically seasoned oil w/bread and salad).
We didn't do any add on activities since our trip was pretty short. One day we did take out a kayak which added a little adventure to our trip. Non-motorized sports are included. As I mentioned the ocean was turbulent so we didn't go far but it was great fun!
Night time entertainment included acrobats, karaoke, Latin music and dancing, Elvis impersonation and a game show night. The staff made these really fun and did a great job!
Rooms were nice, clean and big. Garden view means you'll be looking at the other buildings with rooms similar to yours from your balcony. Side note: there were lots of raccoons and coatis around looking for food but this is not the hotels fault as tourists feed the wild animals despite being told not to. Don't be that guy!
All in all a great trip and the price of the package couldnt be beat. Next time I'd go back if I had the same budget but if I had a few hundred dollars more to spend I might try another place.

Super clean facilities, the attention of everyone who works there was amazing! Carolina, the girl at the reception who served us was super friendly and nice. The food and drink spectacular.
Arriving to the hotel was great. We were greeted with drinks as soon as we arrived to the hotel lobby. We came here with with 7 guys. One of the rooms was not ready apperantly so they gave us 1 room with a king size bed to share with 2 guys and the concierge assured us that the room with 2 beds would be ready the next day. The restaurant in the resort are to me 4/5 and I'm picky with food. They have many options such as Mexican / Japanese / Italian and buffet with different themes each day. The hotel staff was very accommodating for hosting an event ( The Champions league finals) Real Madrid vs Juve. They had a BBQ outside the theater with beer / burgers / cake etc. The set up was nice. It's very easy to go to the main Street ( 5av or 30av) it's about $22 USD dollars for a cab ride each way. We stayed here for 5 days June 2nd to June 7th the weather was great 30c to 35 c cloudy and a bit of rain that lasted no more than 5 min. Wifi was great though out the resort. ( Fast) Definitely an adult's resort.

Nice place to spend as a couple, since they are pure adults, restaurants and different types of food were to my liking, just missing more Mexican food menu and better seasoning, it is very tasteless at times. The very nice and spacious room overlooking the sea, it was spectacular to see the sunrise and the rainbow, also the animation guys excellent work, Ines and Selza the best, thanks for your attention
