I have always been very pleased at Horsnyder's! Their highly conscientious pharmacists are willing to make the extra effort to ensure safety and help out when needed. This goes a long way toward ensuring a positive experience for all.

I dont thing I've ever been to a pharmacy with a friendlier staff. Normally the pharmacist wants you to get your meds and get out. Not at Horsnyder. They actually care about your well being.
P.S. It is really unfair to give a business 1-5 stars and not say anything about your choice. Your review should be removed...just sayin' (rant over).
I walked in here after, well, really not ever needing to go in. I needed a sling for my broken arm, and when I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Geez, they have eye candy! The place gives you a feeling of having a happy shopping experience.
The help was wonderful, taking the product out of the container to be sure it fit. We tried two sizes, and found the one that was best for me. Not only that, but the price was great!
I love the new Horsnyder's Pharmacy! It goes way beyond medical devices, and actually has gifts!
I transferred my prescription service to Horsnyder a few years ago because my friend recommended them. They are professional, nice and kind. I call in my prescriptions and they are usually ready to pick up same day. When the prescriptions are not ready, it is due to waiting to hear back from my Doctor for authorization on expired items. Highly recommended.
My friend needed some repair work done on his chair that he at one time purchased. A young woman by the Denise came out to do the repair work. She was great. I wasn't there but was told about the repair work done on his chair. Paul was a very happy man and made a phone call to the store regarding the repair work done on his chair. He reported how pleased he was with her.
On the occasion I needed to fill an order for my 95-year old mom, I had a terrible time. Really terrible. The order was faxed from the doctor and lost. The order was sent again. Horsynders then needed the doc's notes. The doctor complied and it was faxed again. Next call. Horsynders didn't receive the order, they claimed the doctor didn't send made aspirations against the doctor's office. The doctor's nurse swears she did fax but sends again. I call again and I'm told the order would be ready for collection the next day.
When I arrived on Saturday morning, it was not ready and the order couldn't be found. After waiting 45 minutes, the pharmacist got involved. She confirmed insurance (you know, first things first)... but... yes you guessed it... they didn't have the product ordered in stock. The pharmacist substituted a different product, which was fine. She said there was no co-pay (mom had Medicare and a secondary insurance). Horsynders only had 4x of the 10x units ordered. That was also OK. After well over an hour, I was ready to escape!
The following Monday, I got a call. There was after all a co-pay. $10 if we just wanted to keep the 4x units. When my partner arrived to pay the total, she was told it had gone up to $15. All paid. Are we now done? No!
A month later, I get an invoice for another $42.21. I then searched and found Horsynders was charging almost three times the going rate for the product available without prescription and Medicare hadn't covered the full cost. Of course Medicare wouldn't pay for price gouging. Which is why Horsynders wants more from my mom.
Besides extremely poor service, I am really amazed that this company wants to collect even more. From no co-pay to $10 to $15 now to nearly $60. Not to mention the amount of time to make a simple transaction.
What was the product? A fancy bandaid. Had I known that I would have sourced without the prescription. So always good to check.
I really think that a lot of Santa Cruz people want to shop and support local businesses. But this transaction was badly done and the charges are well and above the even high pharmaceutical charges for such a product. Four band aids for $100.
This is written so others can follow, if they have also encountered poor service. I don't blame the people involved, except to note that there clearly isn't a well managed business. Even with price gouging, after all the missing orders and time finding the order and substituting product, how do you make a living? There are legal contract grounds. If you are given a price, you then should expect the price won't change once you have paid. I would understand if for some reason Medicare denied the claim that mom might owe. But that didn't happen. Medicare did pay. I think this is just Horsynders being greedy and poorly running a long standing local business. Very disappointing.
Great pharmacy with a wide range of products. If you have specific needs their staff will work with you to accommodate you. I've occasionally had issues with prescription refills, but that is an issue with the doctors.
Failed to have my order ready and screwed up each time I was there. Why does the retail shop, who employ rude people, have them answer the phone. Use logic! 95% of the s are going to be for the pharmacy!
Had a new presription for post surgical compression stockings. I knew very little about them. I was fortunate to have Victoria assist me. My prescription was missing some information needed for insurance billing. Victoria helped me call the doctor's office and get necessary info, measured for stockings and showed me how to put them on. Thank you, Victoria and Horsnyder Pharmacy! Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful!
Accommodated my requests, and sensed the urgency of my situation... Top notch service when it counted. Not from the area, but if you are, I recommend you trust them with your needs. Update**26MAR21* THEY CONTINUE TO IMPRESS.
