California kayaking is NOT the same as Michigan kayaking haha. Those waves were HUGE. Do not attempt if you're not used to choppy water kayaking on big wave days. Also these are "open" (flat?) Kayak not enclosed like I'm used to. Let's just say, I'm sure someone won the "pool" when they had to rescue my @$$ three times. Haha!!! An experience that I'll not forget for a long time!!!! I may try on a calm day, but please be warned: You do Not Get your $$ back, even on Big Wave Days. (PS ocean water makes my eyes water and mouth taste gross.). No pictures cuz thankfully my camera was locked up safe in a locker.

This Kayak Tour to the La Jolla caves was nothing like expected. Our group of 4 wasn t impressed, the tour guides itself were nice and sweet. However the actual content of the tour and caves are nothing special or worth seeing.
I don t recommend to anyone - we felt like we wasted $200+ for something that wasn t worth it.

But it s also do it once and done type of deal. If you REALLY REALLY want to do go see the caves because of the thousands of edited photos out there that make them look so spectacular. I recommend finding a Groupon or something so you aren t wasting your money or paying full price.

I went on a tour over Thanksgiving and it was wonderful! The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable, and the experience itself was exhilarating, relaxing, informative, and inspiring all at the same time. I'll definitely be back.

Much better organized than the Bike and Kayak Tours down the street. We got the two stores confused during our spring break trip. We decided to just rent the snorkel gear from here instead of looking for the other place, however he mentioned that his all of his gear was just washed and wasn't dry yet and to check our original destination. I think next time I will take the clean wet gear from here, than to even bother with the other rental store (which had disorganized/rude staff, an hour long wait, and finally dirty/sandy gear).

Booked this tour through TripAdvisor. There was nothing listed in the confirmation info about arriving at the shop an HOUR before departure time. I also received a reminder phone message from the shop staff the day before which never mentioned anything about arriving early. We arrive at the shop 10 minutes before the departure time on our tickets and are immediately chastised by staff for not arriving sooner. We are told the arrival time is listed in the fine print of our confirmation. It wasn t.

The kayak guides were good and knowledgeable. The tour was pretty underwhelming overall though - mainly due to weather and water conditions, not anything the guides could really control. It would have been a lot cheaper to just rent the kayaks, get a map or basic info about the area and taken them out without guides.

Bottom line: the shop needs to make sure TripAdvisor and other booking agents give current and accurate arrival information.

Staff was friendly and accommodating. They did their very best on a rough sea day. Although the scheduled meeting time was 3 and departure was supposed to be 3:30, we didn't get started until 4. They did not cut our trip short however so no points deducted for that.

Absolutely loved our Sandcastle Team Building Event with HBK! All of my associates are ranting and raving about how much fun they had... do not know how I will ever be able to top this event! The facilitators from HBK were very friendly, engaging and professional. Would Highly Recommend HBK (Hike Bike Kayak)!

Our kayak guide was very knowledgeable about the ecology and history of the area. The cave was awesome, although I wish we could have spent a little more time exploring it. And even if you don't enjoy kayaking, the sea lions are worth it!

There are a lot of reviews on here from people giving bad ratings for some REALLY ridiculous reasons. Let me set some clear expectations:
1. You re paying money for a KAYAK tour. It should be be implied by name, that you re going in the water. Kayaks are little boats. Boats go in water. I m not sure why some people struggle with this concept.
2. A kayak is not motorized. Instead, you are provided a paddle. This is common sense. If your source of propulsion is a paddle, held by your hands, which are attached to your arms, then reason dictates it will require some caloric investment. Yes, you will need at least a bit of upper body strength. If you can t handle paddling yourself, that s your problem. Not the kayak s.
3. Water is wet. Phones don t tend to like being wet. Again, this SHOULD be common sense. Don t bring your phone into the ocean without protection. Same rule applies to showers. And swimming pools.
4. Oceans have waves. Fact. This is not anybodies fault. It s just part of nature.

Now that that s out of the way...Yassin was awesome!! Super knowledgeable and informative about the geological features features of La Jolla Shores. We had a blast! Caves were cool, water was wet, ocean was moving about. Saw fish, saw sea lions, saw snorkelers. Took a swim off the kayak. Had a blast. Well worth the money! I highly recommend.

Please pay attention to the top 4 bullet points. These should be basic, simple, 2nd grade level logic statements, but sadly, judging by a relatively large sample size (all these reviews) it s not so common to be as smart as a 2nd grader.

First time kayaking and I loved it!!! The tour guide David was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Check this place out if you are visiting or even if you live in the area and just want an enjoyable experience and some interesting facts about La Jolla Bay! Great job David! - Dana Montry

Why does the website say that no experience is necessary? We have no experience. We had no idea we were going into the ocean. We thought we were going into some caves. We had no idea that you need upper body strength! and that the water would be 60 and there was a possibility of tumping over! MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, when there are storms in the south Pacific, someone could warn those of us with no upper body strength that they might need some? Seriously. This was ridiculous to those of us who aren't strong. Ryan was cool. Ryan, Tell your boss I need a refund! And he needs to explain things on his website. His website "lure" SUX!

Henry was our guide and we had a beautiful exhilarating time. The scenic views were spectacular, ride fun and fast, and exploring engaging. You could not want for more! Henry is smarterrrrrr than the average bear. So don't let his quick wit and jokes fool you. Underneath his disguise is a biologist, naturalist, and historian. Please ask for him! Thanks Henry it was the ride of a life time. Deb from Florida.

My husband and I took this tour last week and Had Rob as our guide... It was the best experience of our lives.... he is very knowledgeable and made us feel very safe and comfortable. We got to go in one of the caves, it was to cool. We have sea lions in San Francisco near where we live, but seeing them so up close like we did was so exciting. We would recommend this trip to all. Thanks Rob for a wonderful time.

Our tour guides (Jill and ?) were friendly and informative. They each shared lots of facts and information about what we were seeing out on our tour, such as ocean life, etc., Not only did they educate us about ocean life, but also about San Diego and some of its history. We had a really great experience. The tour guides were patient with the kids who were with us, who slowed things down a bit for our entire group. Thank you!

We kayaked with a few others in a group. Our guide was Jill, who was fantastic! We highly recommend this adventure. The wind was a bit too strong to go into the caves (bummer) but being on the water, seeing the surrounding beauty, and getting lessons on the sea life from very knowledgeable Jill was super! We are talking about a return trip in February to kayak among the migrating grey whales...

I honestly can say one of the worst tour I ever had, I booked with another company but unfortunately somehow got lost and ended here with two female guides, the girl big frame and with black hair was looking me bad and being rude all the way up to the caves, when we arrived to the caves insisted that we couldn't go in, my husband and I asked why and she said you are rentals I allowed you to be with us but nothing else, my husband asked explanations 3 times more she was rude and condescension to us, during the tour made derogatory comments about Mexico (very disturbing and unnecessary) then we saw a guy we had seen when we arrived to the store where our tour started and asked him if we could go in, he said yes sure and she said and insisted no they are rentals, even if we had been rentals "you don't own the caves" , she blocked my way and even almost convinced my guide we were rentals fortunately we figured out the confusion and my guide asked some guys if they could exchange helmets because somehow we did not have, seems like we didn't get to hear about the helmets at the beach and that was when our cofusion started, nevertheless, we returned with our guide he was the best, spoke clearly, loud and very fun! Highly recommed La Joya Caves kayak rental, so different than this lady, brilliant and fun young gentlemen I gave -2 stars for the guide 2- for her rudeness.

All of us in our family had a great time. We had never been sea kayaking and it was fun. The guides were knowledgeable about the history of the local area and their insight made the trip better. I enjoyed paddling out the waves, what a rush. My sister Terry and I celebrated our 60th birthday that day. The staff were friendly and made us feel comfortable while on the water.

Called day of to schedule an appointment and luckily they were able to get us in (party of 4). Asked us to be there half an hour prior to our appointment to make sure we found parking (have to park on the street or find a lot), get our life jackets and helmets. While we were waiting for the entire group to arrive one of the guides told some really funny family-friendly jokes. Tour was very informative and delivered as promised. Spent 90 minutes learning about the marine life, houses of interest and listening to some really good stories of the area and past guides experiences. Both guides (Dalwood and Katie) were friendly, safety focused and made the experience very enjoyable.

I had a great experience on my kayak tour! Matt was our guide and he kept it fun! :) This is my first kayak tour and as a beginner, I felt it was perfect for me! We got to go inside a cave and hang out for a couple minutes. Matt was filled with knowledge and it was great listening to him share it all! There were some sea lions in the cave too!

The distance was a bit farther than I thought but it wasn't bad. There is no rush and we were able to paddle at our own pace. It was relaxing to me.

The employees at the shop all were very nice and helpful!

Poor at best, spent all our time waiting on others. Didn't even get half way to caves. Listening to boring stories is not what we paid for. Organize your tours better and it might be worth what we paid

I loved everything about our kayaking 2hr cave tour. It was very fun and it's beautiful. What made it better was our guide who was so knowledgeable and made it that much better if I'm correct his name is Robb. The views are amazing, we were firs timers. Would highly recommend this tour.

Great fun kayaking out to the caves. It was super wavy the day we went, but the paddle was beautiful. The staff was fun and helpful. Definitely a different experience than just standing on the beach.

Great service, prompt timing, easy to find, okay deal for price. Life vest smelled a little off, the tour info was a bit boring, not able to go into caves due to water levels and no offer to come back for a discount another time due to the lack of cave entry.

We had an awesome time. The group was small and not a 'cattle call' like many of the other companies. Our guide Brian was very knowledgeable about the area, ocean and ecososystem. Turns out he studied biology at the University. He made it a great experience. I recommend HBK to anyone going to La Jolla. We'll be back!

Within the past 3 years I've gone on 3 kayaking tours with this company and just completed my first biking tour this past weekend and I have yet to be disappointed
The guides are very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly
The tours are fun, enlightening, and breathtakingly beautiful
I would highly recommend this company for any visitors to La Jolla...it's well worth it

Absolutely fantastic kayak adventure with our guides, Katie and Dalwood (sp?) who were both super-informative from the start. They gave great safety instruction, told jokes, and gave some amazing facts about La Jolla as well as the local ecosystem. They guided us thru the caves and allowed us to get up close to some sea lions and seals. Will definitely book there again.

We had a great time. We thought the shop was well equipped with kayaks, wetsuits, and other needed and optional gear. And the staff were friendly and helpful. Our guide Graham was really nice and knowledgeable, and gave us good tips on handling the kayaks. He was attentive to everyone. We used sit-on-top kayaks, but they were pretty stable. We hit some winds and has some difficulty getting through the surf. Several of us went over, but Graham was right there helping us get up upright (note to self: do not bring binoculars, cameras, or anything else that could get ruined by exposure to saltwater, because they will get wet!!) We didn't get into the caves because of the winds and waves, but the paddle was pleasant, and Graham was knowledgeable about the ecological reserve and some of the colorful homeowners along the coastline. It generally was really nice to be on the water. I would do it again.

They are the only place being truthful online and ...

They are the only place being truthful online and in person about booking a snorkelling guided tour for beginners. In regards to the fact they didn t recommend the la jolla cove tour for beginners. I am not comfortable swimming in the ocean and was scared as the la jolla beach did not seem particularly sheltered. The water was rough and the swells were big- think indoor wave pool- nothing awful, but for an inexperienced snorkeler it was intimidating. I did the shore excursion where you don t go out to the coves and that was hard enough for a beginner. I almost turned back as it was difficult to get accustomed to breathing with a mask and snorkel in rough water but once I relaxed it turned out to be a good experience. No life jackets were offered but if you want they provide a boogie board to hold on to as a floatation device. It was too hard for the youngest girl (8 years) in our group so her mom took her back to shore but everyone else managed. I personally hope they always bring a boogie board even if not requested because someone had a leg cramp and needed it to get back to shore.
We saw a few fish and 1 small (tiger? leopard?) shark. Overall it was murky but perhaps it was a rougher day than normal.
If you are worried like me, do the shore excursion, use a boogie board and you ll be fine. The depth we swam out to never got much deeper than approx 15 feet perhaps. Don t do the more experienced la jolla snorkel unless you know what you re doing.
On a last note, both instructors were friendly and helpful. One more experienced then the other.
Thank you!

BLAINE and LEAH were great guides! They were very informative and fun. The tour to the caves is totally worth your time. You re out on the water enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather. Then, the guides take you into a cave where you will see sea lions perched on the inner walls. Very cool experience. We will do it again.

Had a great time on the water, despite less than ideal conditions (it was windy and rather cool). Our guide Nick was very knowledgable and seemed to enjoy showing us around. He gave us good paddling instruction on the beach and pointers while we were on the water. Didn't get to go into the caves due to the waves, but we had an unexpected treat on the way back to the beach--a bottlenose dolphin surfaced very close to our kayaks! Thanks for a great tour!

My friend and I had such a great time! Rob and Graham were our guides for the trip. They split us off into two small groups of 3-4 which was great because we could stay close into our guide and learn about the area in which we were kayaking. I saw other groups out there with 20 or so kayaks. With that, I loved the personalized attention Hike Bike Kayak provided. Rob was extremely knowledgeable about the area too which was really neat. We were one of the lucky bunches that got to go through the cave because the tide was low enough!! I have to mention though, this doesn't happen very often because obviously you can't predict the tide. I highly recommend this tour and now I'm planning on booking a bike tour with them which I've heard is wonderful as well!

We booked this through Groupon months before our trip. We were excited as there was 3 of us on a girls trip. They called me the day before the tour to confirm that we had 3 singles. We showed up after driving for 6 hours for our tour to find out they had bumped us in time, made us go to their sister company and we no longer had 3 singles since a corporate event was going on. We had to do doubles. Why wouldn't they tell me this when they called the day before to confirm. The tour guide was good and it was nice to be on the water but I would never use this company again.

Our car broke down going through LA on our way down to San Diego. Called (Hike Bike Kayak) that evening to let them know we wouldn't be able to make the Kayak tour scheduled for the next morning. The guy promised our money would be refunded in 7 business days. After never seeing our money returned I called back and was lied to again. So my husband called back and they hung up on us. Now I get this email asking how our experience was for a trip we never made it too. No instead we were stranded in LA getting charged for something we never got to do! Shady people...

Rob and Graham were our kayak tour guides. They both are very friendly and knowledgeable! Right from the beginning we saw sea life, a tiny baby octopus and starfish in some kelp floating around a buoy!

The group was able to go into the cave....we saw sea lions on the rocks and some were in the water by some of our kayaks. We loved our experience, we are planning a second adventure with Hike Bike Kayak!!!!

Thanks for a great afternoon! I recommend this tour with Hike Bike Kayak. Safety is a priority for Hike Bike Kayak, so you're able to enjoy your adventure!

Our goal was to experience something new in San Diego, and we did! Super fun adventure with some fun challenges for our family of 6 (kids 7 & 10, parents, plus grandparents). We had a great time and consider this a highlight of our trip!

CAMILLE and SARAH were so personable and friendly. Not only did they make us NOOBS feel more than comfortable they were very reassuring to my 8 year old son who was very concerned that we were going to meet the Megladon face to face. They answered all of his questions no matter how ridiculous or how often repeated. We will definitely make this an annual family tradition. Thank you to Camille and Sarah for making this excursion one to remember...

If you are looking for a great way to spend a few hours at the beach, you have found it! My wife and I took a leap of faith and decided to give it a go. Neither of us have any previous experience in a kayak. Our guide Blaine took the time to explain the ins and outs before we boarded our vessels. The sea was too choppy to add a snorkel excursion, but the kayak experience did not disappoint. We learned a lot about the ecosystem and history of the La Jolla cove. Blaine was very knowledgeable, and we especially loved the Dr. Seuss trivia. It wouldn t be a proper post if I didn t also give a shout out to our boat launch master Andrew at the beach. He took extra care to make sure my wife arrived back on land without a dunk in the ocean.

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. My sister and I r...

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. My sister and I rented SUPs from this place and what a mistake that was.

1.) You have to carry your sup and paddle all the way down to the beach. There was 5-10 employees behind the counter doing absolutely nothing and one of the girls comes out and leaves the paddleboard's on the ground and says goodluck, you gotta carry it down yourself. Have fun! Why didn't one of the employees help carry it down?

2.) Once we lugged these down to the beach, we noticed that there was a HBK or La Jolla Kayak truck on the beach and they were unpacking kayaks from it..ok so you could have transported it to the beach for us but you were too lazy.

3.) I grew up in San Clemente, have taken Jr Life Guards as a child and am very experienced in the water. Lucky for this company I was. If you are an unexperienced person in the water, AVOID THIS COMPANY. They do not offer any assistance, ask you if you need anything, ask about your ability to swim. NO SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TAKEN HERE. You could not know how to swim and they would not care or even know.

4.) I struggled to get into the ocean with my SUP for about 20 minutes, the surf was a little big and it was difficult. There was about 5-10 employees sitting on the beach under an umbrella watching me struggle. The board hit me in the leg and left a huge bruise, more like a huge welt, i lost my hat, the board hit me several times in the body, I got tumbled, my bathing suit fell off. I was really struggling, do you think any of those employees came to help? NO. They WATCHED me struggle.

5.) They did not even CHECK THE HEIGHT FOR YOUR PADDLE, it was so hard to paddle, I am 5'2 and the paddle was sooo long for me, meant for someone much much taller.

6.) THESE PADDLEBOARDS ARE MORE LIKE SURFBOARDS. IMPOSSIBLE TO BALANCE ON. Everyone we saw who had rented from HBK or La Jolla Kayak had to sit on their paddleboard, its not long or sturdy enough.

7.) Not COVID friendly..mask was falling off all employees, did not require you to wear one inside( i walked in without one), and no social distancing was going on.

Had a great bike and kayak trip with Kristin today. She was an excellent guide and a great overall person! Kristin took the time to explain what we were about to do and was very knowledgable of the local area. I highly recommend this company to be your guide.
Warning: Do NOT go kayaking if you get sea sick. It ruins the trip for those that are able to handle it.

For the kayak and snorkel tour, here are some help...

For the kayak and snorkel tour, here are some helpful things to know:
You ll be offered a half sleeve or full long sleeve wetsuit. I recommend the full longsleeve one (which our guide wore) because the water is COLD (even in August).

There s a place to leave your sandals at the beach while you re kayaking, but most of us walked over barefoot. However, I don t recommend this if you ll be leaving or coming back in the afternoon, when the pavement is scorching!

WEAR SUNSCREEN, especially if you re not wearing the full wet suit. The sun s rays are strong, especially reflecting off the water, and your arms and legs can get burnt to a crisp.

It s a decent bit of paddling from the beach to the sea caves, and you ll get a workout. Our guide did take a couple breaks to let the slower kayaks catch up.

It gets pretty crowded around the sea caves. While snorkeling, we were constantly having to swim out of the way of groups of kayaks or push them away as they floated towards our heads.

If you have never snorkeled before, make sure to try on your mask with the mouthpiece before you get in the water. It takes a bit of getting used to.

Don t feel like you have to wear the fins. You can swim much more freely without them.

There are four changing rooms and plenty of lockers ($6 to rent).

Have fun! The sea caves are pretty cool to swim into (we didn t go in on the kayaks on the kayak/snorkel tour).

Also, this place is owned by the same people as La Jolla Kayak (according to a sign on the window of Hike Bike Kayak). So if you're trying to figure out how much your experience would differ at either place, as I was, I'm guessing the answer is "not much." They are literally less than a one-minute walk apart.

Fun kayak tour! We got to go in the caves, a sea lion swam up next to our kayak, and we saw some fish. Nice tour guides and overall good experience. It maybe could have been a little bit longer but from my research all of the tours in the area are approximately the same length.

All I can say is this was one of my favorite trips to San Diego, decided to try kayaking, big mistake doing it on the ocean, but I do have to say, HBK adventures, have some great employee's it was me 47 yr old a lil on the heavy side my 6yo daughter 25 yo son and my 21 yo daughter in Law, I had plenty of questions all answered, also my 2 guides were Sierra and Josh, hats tipped to them, wasn't really confident about kayaking so I asked Sierra if she wouldn't mind taking my daughter , and she said no problem which made me feel better, well half way through the tour I struggled but Josh hooked up to me and pulled me to the caves, while we were floating by the caves Sierra took the boat one by one in the caves, awesome guide, as she did that Josh attached his boat to hers and watched my daughter and talked to us and gave us history of the area , when we were gonna head back in I was thinking here we go, as i started to paddle I heard Sierra say sir paddle to me, she hitched me up and paddled away, I was trying to help but I think made it harder on her, so I stopped paddling , she got us to the area to return in, she went first with my daughter, made it safe, I was one of the last ones to go in but Josh was right there telling me your doing great straighten out paddle hard, great job, Sierra did have to jump and slow me down, bit those 2 worked great together and made my experience so much more enjoyable then it would've been, Thank You Josh and Sierra

Had a great experience with Hike Bike Kayak, while I got sea-sick (never happened before) and could never get the hang of the snorkel, my wife, who has always been terrified of swimming in the ocean had a ball. Our guide Alex was awesome as were the other people who helped us in the store and we were happy to be the only people on the tour. We felt like we were hanging out with friends who just wanted to take us out to see some cool things. Thanks for the awesome adventure guys! (Tip: Dramamine! Big time!... and if you've never used a snorkel I recommend getting the hang of it in a pool or something before going out).

Last week my wife and I went on two kayak tours with Ezekiel and had a fantastic time. The water during these two days was calm and crystal clear, and by the end of the second day, we were amazed by the amount of ocean life we had seen, including leopard sharks, sea lions playing around and under the kayak, harbor seals, pelicans, cormorants, huge pods of dolphin. We were so impressed that the following day we went to Torrey Pines for a short but beautiful guided hike with Ezekiel. He knows his birds as well as he does his ocean animals, and I was thrilled to see his favorite red shouldered hawk at close range. On our last day, we took a bike tour with Dave, where we finally spied grey whales swimming in the kelp bed off La Jolla, which Dave explained as probably being a group of curious juvenile grey whales. These people know their business.

We went here recently. It was 6 of us, and we walked in to rent some kayaks for an hour or two. They had an opening, and we received life jackets. I asked an employee if they'd recommend bringing a phone, and they mentioned taking pictures but said it was my choice. I figured kayaking was pretty calm (with NO WARNING), and put my phone in a plastic bag. Once we got to the ocean, I realized every other kayaker had a helmet, but no one in my group received one. I saw other people going into the water and realized that the ocean was very strong that day, and I asked the employee what I could do with my phone, to which he basically just shrugged off and didn't really answer my inquiry. I'm now out $800 for a phone from water damage, which we had no warning that the kayaking would be so rigorous. To add, we had a six year old with us, and they didn't even mention that it would be dangerous for her. She fell in the water about 10 seconds in (luckily not in deep water), but our group had no warning and if the boat would've tipped she would've bonked her head on the boat due to not having a helmet. I do not recommend, be warned, it's dangerous!!

Great experience. We looked at several different companies and decided to go with Hike Bike Kayak. I'm glad we did. We had a small group (only 6 total) as opposed to the large (20+) groups we saw with other companies. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Nat was our guide and he was fabulous! We went in late spring and were really hoping to see a shark. Nat made sure to find one and point it out to us so we could see it. He also got a picture of it with our camera. We would definitely use them again.

I'm super glad we chose the Kayak & Snorkel Tour, in late July 2019 and booked it through Viator (which is Trip Advisor). Our guides were Savanna and Indigo and they were EXCELLENT. Friendly employees in the store gave me good advice, such as "you don't need a wetsuit" (I definitely didn't and probably would have gotten hot). "Don't wear your sunglasses". The kayak did tip over once, due to a big wave as we paddled out. I'm glad I was wearing a helmet because the kayak hit my head and didn't hurt a bit. A young girl on the tour got pretty scared and Savanna was so great calming her down. We bought 2 waterproof pouches for our phones, on Amazon, which was smart because they were quite a bit more expensive in the store. Do not take your phone or ANYTHING that you don't want to get wet--a $6 locker is well worth it. We didn't get to kayak into the caves but we got to snorkel near the cave entrance. Saw some orange fish. Don't go near the rocks--the waves will push you into them. Ouch. Snorkeling is so fun and relaxing especially if you have your life jacket on. Watch some YouTube videos on snorkeling and kayaking before you go. Wear your sandals or boat shoes on the walk from the store to the beach--the pavement is HOT. I would definitely book another tour with Hike Bike Kayak--it was overall a fantastic experience!

Our particular experience was just ok. We got to see some fish, sea lions, and birds, but not very close up and didn't get to go in the caves. Your experience really depends on the wildlife and tides. I could see this being a 5 star rating had there been more wildlife up close that day. The guides are friendly and helpful and give a good overview of the area to keep it interesting.
Instead of the kayaking, I would recommend going to LA Jolla cove beach. You can get as close as your comfortable with to the sea lions on the beach. If you rent or bring some snorkeling stuff, even just some goggles would be ok, you can go in the water and likely have sea lions swim right by you. We saw about a dozen people snorkeling and looking at fish and every few minutes a sea lion would swim right under them. There are rocks around so it can be a little unsafe if you're not a strong swimmer though.

HBK = great tours and service. We went out on a tour and were amazed with the knowledge and beauty that was right in our own city. HBKs guides (David was ours) knows crazy facts about the ocean and showed us leopard sharks, rays, sea caves and navigated us through the ocean. Great customer service, knowledge staff and great adventure. Highly recommend HBK.

Sea Cave Kayak tour: Megan and Olivia were fun guides and did a pretty good job. But note that this is a pretty long way to kayak especially if you re not used to it. We only went in one cave (with perfect conditions) and for like 60 seconds. We did see a seal, leopard sharks, and fish. They told us about the area which was interesting and they really tried to make it as fun as possible.
Unfortunately, this place charges extra for your locker to keep any dry stuff. I suggest providing free lockers with your booking or even providing dry bags and nicer kayaks so that people can clip them on and take their stuff. Also they should warn you that when you come back into the beach the waves may tip your kayak. I didn t tip over and followed instructions they gave but others tipped. Currently there no bathrooms offered at the shop which was very inconvenient.
