I'm drawn in half on my opinion of this place.

Firstly let me say that the staff was courteous, the space was nice, and the atmosphere relaxing. Their prices seemed pretty reasonable for anything consumed.

But they are definitely a work in progress. I haven't been to a brewery that was out of it's own beer. I also have never been to the headwaters of any beer and had the price to fill a growler be above $16 let alone $26!

All in all, good for a cool beverage en route, not good for anything takeaway.

The good: food is good! Beer is decent. They have an interesting flavor and style of beer. Not the best beer I've had and definitely not the worst.

The bad: the service was horrible. The hostess was very blunt and rude. Our server was nice, but she took forever. To her defense, she was very busy.

I attached a photo of the brussel sprouts.

I always go to the San Mateo coast on weekends, to decompress and escape Silicon Valley. There are 3 establishments I frequent that have food to refuel, friendly people working there, and panoramic views you just melt into. They are the cafe on the Pacifica Pier, Sam s Chowder House in H.M.B, and the Hwy 1 Brewery in Pescadero.

Not only does the Hwy 1 brew pub have a great selection of beers brewed on a rotating basis, almost all of them pair well with the food served there. My favorite is a pint of any of their IPA s with the brisket sliders. The brisket is fresh, smoked on the premises, with a tempting aroma when you walk by the open area seating in the back.

Live music when weather permits, and again, one of the best panoramic views on the San Mateo coast. Both the staff and owners know the water and tourist attractions around there intimately, and are always ready to share what s going on in the local area.

I recommend the Hwy 1 Brewery for the food, the scenery, the beach hiking trails across the street, and of course the beer.

The beer is reasonably good, but forget about the food service. It's slow, and in the case of fried food, I saw a lot of plates come out that were cooked in burned oil. Enjoy a beer at the bar, but if you want something to eat try elsewhere.

The place is undergoing a change in ownership, so pretty limited menu for now. I'm excited to go back once they are fully up and running again and update my review after they get BBQ. Definitely worth a visit.

Over priced mediocre BBQ and quite a poor service structure where customers seat themselves and stand in line to order/pay first at what looks like a checkout kiosk. The restaurant is in such a great location and features some decent beer. It could be so much better with just a little more effort. I had high hope and left disappointed, unlikely to return.

I didn't have any food, just beer. It was terrible. The place is dirty, there are flies everywhere and the beers we're bad. I ordered a double IPA. I drank maybe half and felt ill for an hour afterward. We tasted three others just to find something my could enjoy. No luck. We settled on an Amber for her that was a bad choice. She had less than half.

Tasty!

The beer is good, the food was over cooked the guy behind the counter not helpful, kind of felt like he didn't care that we were there. The two star's were for the beer it really was good.

Bachelor party here was epic. Meatloaf sliders are just genius and then mind bogglingingly good to wash it down with some Jalapeno beer. Let the food coma set in while you watch your best buds play some corn-hole out back in their sweet patio setup. Super nice place and will be coming back for years to come!

This place is worth driving out of your way to visit and you have to stop if you are driving by anyway. Housed in a very unassuming older roadside building with a front dining area that is caught in a bit of a time warp, the gold all happens in the back. That is where the updated bar and lounge area can be found, where the brewing is going on, and how you access the beer garden dining area behind the building. The food is unique and delicious while the brews are inventive and refreshing. You'll find me here whenever I happen to be in the area. Don't miss it! Especially Old Snagletooth!

My husband and I were in San Francisco for our anniversary and we took the Pacific Coast drive - saw this spot out in the middle on nowhere and decided to stop. Much to our surprise, it's not your average burger joint. They offer vegan and meat dishes, remarkable craft beers, and even a Charcuterie plate that was magnificent. Sustainable , local, organic menu items andimpressive beer choice offerings. Atmosphere was very pleasant, scenic and family oriented. We're from the east coast so this was a welcomed change for us. Looking forward to our next visit!

Fries are too salty either in Fish & fry or in mushroom burger sides. Buffalo fries (cauliflower fry) seems frozen for a while. Clam soup is good.We tried this restaurant since it is closer to the park. Overall experience is not good with food.

I had high hopes for this place, unfortunately my experience showed that they are not prepared for a busy day. It's Saturday and we want burgers. Nope! Guy at the front had the worst attitude and complained about closing because they were too busy and reopening but busy again. He walked away with an awful vibe and didn't come back to the order taking station. We decided not to eat and so did other people so, unfortunately, I cannot comment on the food.

I did have a Saison and it was decent. So much of how you perceive taste is encouraged by the people who serve it and the atmosphere, so please keep that in mind.

Our visit was fine. Quiet in the bar area. Sitting watching the ocean, drinking beer and eating just OK Bbq. Our bartender was great. Everyone was laid back. Some if the staff were a little annoying but the lady helping us was fine.

Bbq was disappointing. Brisket was the best of the three. 2 measly ribs were charred black and charcoal dry. Pulled pork was in the middle but dry. Sauce was good and a necessity. Coleslaw was good on lightly dressed. Cornbread and honey butter were tasty. Overall, the 3 meat combo was not a good deal compared to similar BBQ places where they the servings are a much better portion for the price. Go with the Greek salad, bet salad or burger and fries. Fries were great.

I had just one beer, the mosaic pale. It was a fine pale not pretending to be an IPA which it is not supposed to be.

Outdoor patio was sheltered from the wind and looked like a awesome place to hang out with friends and beer.

Looked forward to eating here until it took over an hour to wait for food. Unacceptable. The place wasn t even very busy! I rarely write negative reviews, but this place is run by incompetent folks. The excuse for our food not arriving quickly was due to the cash register not sending orders to the kitchen. I m sitting at this place as I still wait for my food one hour later. F****** ridiculous. I m using their WiFi to write this bad review as well....ha!

Cute brewery right of of highway 1. No cell service or Wi-Fi here, like the signs say "talk to each other!" Only ordered a beer with my wife so I can't speak to the quality of the food, but I looked at the menu and the options looked delicious!

Came in from out of town for a wedding and dropped in on a Saturday at noon, place was almost empty. The waitress was rude and acted put out by us just being there. The table was filthy and there were flies everywhere. The coffee the served me was cold and all three of the meals brought to my table were lukewarm. The brisket would have been good had it actually been warm. Mt friend ordered the smoked chicken and it was just way too salty. All in all not worth stopping for, super expensive for what you get. It's sad that so many coastal towns charge top dollar for sub par service and food, this place wouldn't last a month if it were anywhere else.

Short list of beer, but very tasty, and a good variety. The tap rotates regularly so there is always something new. Good BBQ, but a bit pricey. Nice outdoor and indoor seating with a decent view.

Wait staff ok, receptionist ok, food so-so, Ordered fish and chips was very disappointed at the mostly batter/very little fish and chips/french fries as pictured, only to receive a small airline size homemade bag of stale, soggy potato chips! Went to clean up a spill, and the napkin and in the wet wipe was black from the grime, dirt and and mold on table.
I m not even thinking of sanitary precautions we see today, I m just looking at sanitary conditions in general! I have to be awfully hungry, pictured before I pay for, or before I ever to go back!

The place looks nice and the service was gentle and peasant.
We had a chance to order a cup of onion soup, caesar salad and fish and chips.
The onion soup, which was a bit salted but fine. My wife could not finish the fish as it had no taste and the salad was one of the worth I have had.
We did not order the hamburger, but it looked nice from other's guests table so we probably had a bad luck with the choices.

A bit of California history-Portola's expedition apparently stopped at Gazos Creek to rest before heading up the coast-that's a reason to stop. Also nearby Pigeon Point and Ano Nuevo are parts of California history, especially Pigeon Point, an important Beacon to travelers coming to San Francisco in The Gold Rush days.

The place was a road house of sorts for many years, probably fueling many a traveler before going on to Davenport, Santa Cruz, or (in these days) Costanoa.

Under new ownership, it's been revitalized, and the menu is Americana. The pulled pork is really tasty-despite what some have said (and I used to live in North Carolina) and the sides are also grubbin'-especially the fries. PLUS-it's a unique location on the coast, there's literally nothing like it for miles. Check it out!

Absolutely fabulous stop at Highway 1 Brewery.... Lucky to have a gorgeous day to drive up the coast. I have been coming up here a handful of times a year since the opening. I will admit it was hit and miss in the past. On this day though.... It was my best visit to date... The beer was cold and plenty to choose from, the new brewer really did a great job on the IPA.
The new menu was a nice surprise and properly executed. Plenty to choose from.
The live music was very nice and warmed up the room with ample applause after each song.
Some of the reviews I've read before writing this blew me away. I cannot imagine how difficult this location would be to operate and be successful. I wonder if the bad reviews come from people that have no ability to socialize without cell service or wifi.
This truly is a place to appreciate, try to give the honest feedback to make it better, instead of bash hard working people. Thank you Highway 1 Brewery

Very cool scene, but don't come here if you're needy. The staff will take care of you but it won't be immediate. Plenty of well lit dining space, and liveusic in the back. Cider . Craft beer notsomuch

This place has great potential. It is nicely situated and has a casual atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the food left us underwhelmed. It seemed to be carelessly prepared and was lacklustre in terms of flavour.

As it stands, I would recommend only for a beer stop.

Stopped in at 7pm Sunday, after coming up RT1 from Laguna Seca WSBK races. They were pretty empty when we arrived, but filled up after more people stopped in while we were there. Friendly staff and pretty good food. My wife and I ordered different beers to share between us. Both were excellent. I would like to try it again with more time to closing to experience the back beer garden.

If God were to say: "Hey, lets combine the worst tasting food imaginable with obviously crap quality beer and horrible customer service and put that place next to a gas station!" his creation would amount to a little place called: "The Highway One Brewing Company".
I'm pretty sure the only reason this place is scoring an unfathomable 4.1 is because of the many hipsters and "homebrew enthusiasts" that can't tell a difference from a tegernseer helles helles or an augustiner brau; my friends, this place is the worst.

While I was driving until half moon bay I suddenly saw the sign with the hop and decided to stop : it definitely worths the stop !
The beer tasting was amazing. The pale ale called "Road trip mosaic" is so fruity, so juicy, so refreshing...and a great IBU amount to almost reach an IPA : Wow wow wow !
The food is fantastic and the corn bread is home made.
I do recommend this place !
By the way, cross the highway and find a wild beach...

The beer was great.

The beer was great.

They recently changed ownership, and they shouldn't be running the restaurant yet. It's a BBQ spot, but basically everything's a mess. Today, for example

-no a/c inside
-flies everywhere
-lots of brewing equipment and other random equipment lying around
-landscaping falling apart in the beer picnic tables area
-potato salad had raw potatoes in it
-they were out of forks
-plates should come with cornbread...only one of 2 came with it
-portobello sandwich was literally a grilled portobello and a cheap bun. No sauce, nothing else
-ribs were dry...membrane wasn't removed either
-ketchup containers were obviously refilled
-spring water bottle was also obviously refilled with tap water
-bathroom was as repulsive as the public Porto-potty at the local beach.

But, the French fries were good and so was the coleslaw, aka our dinner.

The food and the staff are amazing! I had a killer burger and some garlic pretzel bites, prepared by Martin the Madman Chef extraordinare; that knocked my socks off! The bartender was nice and the wait staff were all very attentive. I will definitely be back for more..

I didn't eat there, but everyone's food did smell delicious, had a few of their brews, very good...the staff was very friendly and upon that alone, I will return when in the area again

Quality beer.

Quality beer.
The cauliflower wings were delicious.
Beach is across the the highway.
The staff was very sweet.

We will be back.

Decent beers, but it's not near much of anything without driving, so you kind of have to eat and chill out for awhile before hitting the road again (DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE).

The beer selection is pretty wide given the size of the brewery, and the food is really well done. The prices are higher than I expected, but local food that is well made, local craft brews that are well done, and plenty of indoor and outdoor space with parking. Pretty good.

Some of the beer was good. Others were mediocre. Food was horrible. It tasted like freezer food warmed up in a microwave or in a small conveyor oven. They claim they have a "sous chef." It was definitely overpriced considering the poor quality. On a brighter note, the bar tender was friendly and the view was excellent.

Having traveled in 46 states, this is one of my favorite family 'diners' in all of America. Slow down, pull over, and enter the Slow Coast experience. Order a beer and root beer for the kids, grab a board game, and enjoy quality time. One reviewer's critique is my positive: service is slow and European, the fried chicken is excellent, and Daddy enjoys the beer. Highway One is THE place to begin your Slow Coast vacation.

Really bad food! We ordered fish and chips. The fish wasn't fresh at all and it was sad given it is on the coast. And to make things worse it was a bit too overcooked - the batter browned almost to dark brown. The fries were terrible - dry n chewy. Won't recommend to anyone.

Used to enjoy this place. But we find it closed when it says it should be open quite often. Further, the last time we were there, we ordered BBQ pulled pork and it was INEDIBLE. It honestly looked like the pork was toy play food--so rubbery and plastic-y....a sign it was sitting out in the air.

Gross. We won't return. We've been "giving them another shot" for like a year now. This was the final nail in the coffin.

I want to like this place so bad, but it is just not good. I've stopped in about 3 or 4 times over the past few years hoping that it would improve (I think they recently changed owenership?). The food is terrible and VERY expensive and the beer is not something I would pull off the highway for. Each time I have been the counter tops were sticky, painfully slow service, and lots of flies inside.
