We have been several times at the castle, it is a nice trip by bike, beautiful surroundings this the orchards.
From the outside the castle speaks to the imagination, canal with drawbridge and cottages for servants (?) In the courtyard.
Once inside the gate it is a bit boring. Usually no activities or information. I finally went inside once on Heritage Day. Castle itself is pretty bare inside. Would be nice if guided tours were given, then the castle comes to life. Without it is unfortunately not recommended.

Beautiful castle!

Beautiful castle!
Unfortunately we arrived in the morning and access is only through guided tours (see their website).
But in the courtyard there was a terrace to relax on.

The castle is within walking distance of a motorhome.

Beautiful castle with a fortress, in which a chapel and a farm, and one of the castles where the legendary series Floris is filmed ...... The courtyard is freely accessible, but for the actual castle you have to pay entrance but then you get you do take a tour of the castle, well worth it. Just a pity that the Langerack tower could not be visited, as well as the entrance gate.

A nice place, also for parties. There are also guided tours that are definitely worth it. There is a large courtyard where events take place. When the weather is nice, you can relax at the cafe.

The history is nicely told by the volunteers. The welcome is very warm and the tour just like that. In the attic you can see a lot of the TV series Floris, as well as a beautiful scale model of the castle. Well worth a visit.

This castle isn't overwhelmingly large, but with the aid of the knowledgable staff, you get a glimpse into its past as the stronghold at this strategic point where 3 rivers meet in the countryside. The bridge leads you high over the functioning moat into a hall that features a painting of Doornenburg in a dilapidated state, 10 years after the last mistress of the castle died. It's history is an interesting one, including a less than fortunate incident in WW2.

The is armor on display, the bedroom and great hall have arrangements, and nice views are available from every floor. It's worth a visit!

Castle Doornenburg is known for the elderly from the Floris series. It apparently does not attract many tourists, but does not worry, for nice pictures, walk around the castle. After this, a visit to Fort Pannerden is also worthwhile. It is about one kilometer away. A nice step in history.

Nice drink if you are in the area. In the particularly large courtyard had quite coffee and cake. Special place which is definitely recommended to visit .. like every castle, this castle also has a historic character. That is not how the film Floris was shot, do you recognize the big gate?

It's great how this castle has been restored to its former glory
If you see in an old photo just outside the castle how it was destroyed in wartime
The walking path around the castle is also worthwhile

I can still see this castle from my childhood when I watched the television series Floris. That's why I also wanted to enter when I was near this castle. You can visit the castle for free, but you can also join a paid tour. You can also walk around the castle so that you get a good idea of how this castle used to be. During the Second World War, the castle was destroyed by a bombardment, but restored in beautiful beautiful condition, a must to visit.

We were there on the Day of the Castle. There was a lot to see and organized. The tour was very original. There was music and a re-enactment group. The hospitality industry was good and not too expensive. Very cosy. Had a great day!

If you want to experience the Middle Ages, a visit to Castle Doornenburg is definitely recommended. Kasteel Doornenburg is a Dutch castle from the 13th century. The castle is located in the east of the Betuwe and centrally in Gelderland, near the village of Doornenburg. It consists of a front castle and a main castle, which are connected by a narrow wooden bridge.

On every third Sunday of the month there is also a medieval market. Small but cozy! Definitely recommended. #medieval #castle #rights #letsguide
