Henricus Historical Park is worth to see. Beautifully recreated buildings, fences, guards towers, with all tje details as it probably was in 17th century. Each part of the site has its guides in historical attire, who is ready to tell you the colorfull story full of real facts. I liked a lot this excursion :-).

This is a jewel. It is accessible to families and school groups. The surrounding Nature preserve makes for a great outing with the whole family. The staff is very attentive and their gift shop is filled with memories. The cannon and primitive "arcabuses" fire is something to remember. The different representations of life in the era it was inhabited are quite interesting.

Loved it!! Please visit! We must do our part to keep these places open. They are doing ALL THEY CAN TO BE SAFE! Students "are" their main source of income and we all know what's going on today. Take your children today and make that the Math (the timeline), Social Studies (the history), Language Arts (the vocabulary, stories, and leyends), Science (their housing, weapons..) Physical Education (the walk)and Arts and Crafts lesson of the day (so many cool easy to do stuff in the Gift Shop)! So much to see! So much to learn through this live museum!

This little historic site close to Fort Lee was quite the hidden treasure. It is so well maintained and the organizers did a great job in explaining all the historic details of the colonial past of that region. Never would have even imagined a place like this existed.

I love the place and the lady at the gift/ information desk was real nice. She was very polite and communicated very appropriately about many topics I always wanted advice on. She shed some light on the history of the country country being founded and other information I found intriguing.

The walkway was very neat and trimmed. The people in the consumes enacting the old times were very well dressed to the times.

Will visit again

This is a beautiful place to visit if you're interested in history. The staff is very knowledgeable and enjoy sharing what they know. We went on a Sunday when there were no special events planned and it was quiet and easy to see everything. My kids (5 & 9) enjoyed it, especially the musket firing demonstration, but eventually my youngest got bored. The rest of us had a wonderful time.

Went for a field trip with child's school, was thouroughly entertained and educated. Great views by the river where many people were fishing and walking their dogs. Also, they were setting up for an event...seemed like a neat place for it.

The park has done a very good job with the recreation of the fort and village. It is easy to place yourself in the place in the time, and as a history guide, very effective for conveying experience.

I attended a festival at the park. We were limited to the area overlooking the river. It is a beautiful space to look out at the water but the space is limited. I'm not sure if you can do anything but stand at rail & look out. It may not be an area where chairs/picnic tables are permitted. Only downside is the walk from the gate to the area is about a 1/4 mile long and unpaved. That means comfy shoes and maybe not your best clothing.

Very run down. The staff are great but the buildings are old and decrepit. The original Henricus never got this old. Also, the "fort " has trees growing right up to its "walls." Not very realistic. The"gardens" are completely untended, and appear to have been so for some time. Tools are left laying out in the weather. It gives the whole place a MAJOR fake feel.
On the plus side, they work with real food and fire, for demonstrations. Many historical sites do not. The interpreters are pretty knowledgeable too. It comes across as some individuals there are trying despite a management with a policy of not caring.
Interesting place but don't go out of your way.

Lady that works on desk is very unreasonable. She turns away anyone who is under 17 in the store. The whole point of this place is to enjoy. Not get upset and want to leave. The park is nice to ride bikes and to look at Native American lifestyle but that is it

Great for the real history buff. They seem like they are working on the place so I'd expect more in the future. Very understaffed the day we toured, if it hadn't been for one very knowledgeable and personable roleplaying worker with the gift of gab we would have be truly disappointed. I'd like to go back on a weekend when they had a special event going on and there was more interaction. The livestock weren't very talkative.

What a hidden gem! Founded in 1611, just four years after Jamestown, Henricus was a better planned settlement. This living history park features extremely knowledgeable costumed historical interpreters in a beautiful setting that features hands on demonstrations showing daily life for the native peoples and English settlers. Beautifully constructed buildings, farm animals, gardens, and more allow you to wall through the park to get a real feel for living long ago. You drive through the Dominion Power station grounds on your way and wonder if you are going the right way but eventually it opens up to Dutch Gap nature preserve with pull offs for bird watching and a boardwalk to explore the marshland. The park also has walling trails, gift shop and restrooms that can be accessed without paying the entrance fee to the living history area. Great family fun that is not overcrowded like Jamestown can be. They also have some really interesting annual events. Definitely check out this lovely park!

Very neat little living history museum. Kind of a creepy drive to get there through a very busy industrial area that looks like you're entering a construction site. But Dutch Gap nature preserve is beautiful once you find your way in. My main complaint was that a school group was there at the same time that we were, and not only were all of the interpreters working only work the school groups, leaving no one to interact with us or answer questions, but they kept asking us to move along so the school kids could stand where we were! We paid good money to come here but did not get the experience. If they are going to have big groups, they need to schedule extra interpreters for the rest of the guests.
