I've visited this house years ago. I like Hemingway as a writer. I love his house and all his six paws cats. Guided tours of the house give you a better insight of the writer's life and writings. If you visit Key West, Hemingway's house is a must see.
Love the tour, the house is beautiful and the story is very interesting.
Authentic home with informative displays about Hemingway's life. Gardens were lovely too. You can get a self-guided download and/or join a complimentary real-life tour guide through the rooms & grounds. $16 per adult entrance fee.
The experience is very interesting. There is the possibility of doing a guided tour although when we arrived it was in English. Most furniture is of Spanish origin. In addition to the rooms of the house you can also explore the gardens. I recommend the visit.
Such a neat experience! So glad I got to stop by while visiting!
An amazing tour and I interesting look back in history. The grounds are gorgeous and the Hemmigway cats are fun to see too. A must see!
it's ok I liked the history and all but kind of a meh, for stars for the cats tho
We learned and saw so much on this tour. It was a lot more than I thought we would get out of it. and I love all the cats :)
AMAZING! Definitely stop here! Our tour guide was FANTASTIC and I can't remember her name! She was a brunette woman who was perfectly sassy and very expressive! The history was incredible, her delivery is PERFECT, and the cats with 6 toes were adorable. Make this a stop if you're in the area. The $14 was so worth it.
The history lesson was great,. Loved the Hemmingway cats
Very cool place. You get to actually be in the house where Papa lived. Make sure you check out the story about the pool.
I want to jump into the pool here. It was nice to have a cat with six fingers
Chris our tour guide made this a 5 Star review. Knowledgeable and passionate all that is Ernest Hemingway. Learned so much and kept our attention throughout. Well worth the price of admission $14each for adults, and was able to walk around after. If you go wait for Chris you won t regret it!
An interesting museum in Key West, because of the many (very well-kept!) Cats also great for the kids ... top
Thoroughly enjoyed our tour today! Not only did our tour guide, Chris, bring the stories of Ernest and the house alive, he kept our 13 and 15 year old entertained with his enthusiasm and passion! Very impressive! Thanks, Chris! Will definitely recommend this tour to our friends and family.
We visit here every year. Chris is the best guide ever, but we missed him last year. It is a tour you won't want to miss. Amazing beauty and history. Learn something new every time we go. The cats really run the place and the humans just help them out. Lol. Thank you for staying open during these trying times. Looking forward to our visit later today.
A must see when in Key West. The house is lovely and you learn some interesting facts about Hemingway. The cats on the property are a HUGE bonus! Fun for all ages. Our tour guide Sara was friendly and kind enough to try to entertain the kids in our group.
Great tour and w ask enjoyed our time here! The six toed cats were cute! :)
This year will be the second time my wife and i have visited the Hemingway House. Both times we have learned something new about the grounds and the life of Ernest Hemingway. We will go back again if time allows.
This is a cool place to visit if you are in Key West. You get to learn some history and enjoy company of many Hemingway cats.
great people maintain this house. I will visit it again when I visit.
Great place to see the history and learned alot on our tour!
Nice efficient tour; and plenty of free time to let the cats :)
Short tour with option to roam property afterwards was nice. House was uneventful however there are some interesting stories and a pretty property to walk. Price was tad hefty for visit. Cat pee smell hard to forget too.
Pretty good tour. It was all about the guide though. She was awesome and had a great sense of humor. I had little interest in Hemingway until this tour. The cats are entertaining and everywhere- even the gift shop.
Chic old building and the cats with six toes were also there.
The 30 minute free guided tour is an absolute must. You can still wander on your own afterwards and get a better look at everything but the information that comes with the tour and eye opening and fun. We were led by Sara which was SO much fun to listen to. She's a great story teller and loud, in turn, captivating. Of course, cats everywhere!! If you're not a fan or lover of cats, it shouldn't turn you away. They walk around the premises leisurely and lie around on the furniture. They only come running when she shakes her bag of treats. They are the epitome of key west living. Haha ... not expensive to get in and like I said, you can stay as long as you want around the garden. There are also 2 restroom areas on site. Nice for a history buff or just to kill some time.
Amazing gardens with beautiful kitties. Home tour is informative and nice gift shop offerings.
Of course a must see if you are in Key West Admission $ 14 incl. Guide. Nice old house with beautiful tropical garden for me. Cats are found everywhere
Wonderful old home...very interesting. Beautiful cats!
CASH ONLY. We visited partially for the history but mostly for the cats. I loved the 6 toed cats! Was a really good way to spend an afternoon and within walking distance of most of Old Town.
Awesome historic home with amazing staff who give interesting tours. Though the best thing there are the cats! ;)
Great Tour with Randy... the cats are a must and in the tour it is told why there are so many and what they meant to Hemingway. I learned a lot on this tour I wasn't aware of and how Hemingway had an effect on the island.
Wonderful tour, Dave our tour guide was so helpful and informative.
I felt the entrance fee was expensive and I didn't see anything to go inside. It's crowded with people, but if you go through a guided tour, you'll have another fun. I was alone
Came for the cats, stayed for this history! Great tours.
An interesting house, however, does not make a big impression. Probably the biggest attraction here are cats that have 6 fingers: D
It is a nice house and cool to see. Probably not 15.99 cool. Daughters liked the cats but they were not overly friemdly
If you're looking for cats, go here! But in all seriousness, the tour guides here are extremely passionate and informed, so while I wasn't exactly the most interested party at the beginning of my tour I definitely found myself thoroughly enjoyed by the end! A cool stop if you're looking for something interesting!
This was a great place to visit. The tour was fun.
Great tour, I enjoyed it greatly. My wife who isn't normally a museum can really enjoyed the tour and how personable the guide was. I would recommend it to anyone who come to the keys.
A very pretty house with a very beautiful story filled with anecdotes starting with the garden ....
Nothing like a million 6 toed cats. Bring cash to go in, $14 per person.
Definitely worth touring the home of a great American writer. We found the guided tour to meaningfully contribute to the experience. Just the right blend of information with contextual feeling. The six-toed cats keep the ambiance authentic and are cared for really well. Crowd size was modest so I was free to take my time to embrace this historical setting. Cost for adult admission is reasonable.
So many cats! Fun history of a wonderful American author.
Definitely worth taking a tour and letting the docent tell you what your are looking at. Great stories and lots of cats.
Very interesting quite expensive for what you get to see at key West location Cuba home is better but can only look through window for the most part
Great place. There was a wait for a guided tour so we did a self tour which was great. Moved at our own pace and with all the signs posted we got plenty of information.
Wonderful place to visit with such a rich history and stories. Be ready to see all the cats roaming around.
A must if you are visiting Key West for the first time! Ernest Hemingway was a fascinating playboy with a rich history shared in the very house you get to tour. Much of his works were penned in the decade he lived here and much of the original decor, furniture is fully intact. Our tour guide Doug really brought his story to life with a sort of sincerely you don't often find from visits like these (don't be cheap! it is customary to tip great guides!!)
Truly a cat-lover's paradise. The 52 (!) cats are legit friendly and adorable, they're probably a little weary of the constant attention from the more annoying tourists day in and day out (who have no idea how to act around animals), but with a bit of patience they will often come up to you and let you pet them; one even decided to take a nap right on my feet.
And yes, most if not all have 6 toes on their left paws!
Gift shop is very much worth checking out, plenty of books, short stories and adaptations penned by Hemingway (naturally) and lots of artwork, bookmarks, 6 toed cat-themed merchandise and many more vintage-florida flavored merchandise.
Perfect way to spend an afternoon, very refreshing and lives up to the hype. Highly recommended - and this is coming from a native Floridian!
Neat place to learn about the history of the author. Guided tour was great!
The cats are awesome! The wait for the tour of the house was very long so I had to stick to the grounds and then snap a quick photo of the writing area. It s unfortunate that due to Covid restrictions there can only be so many people on tour at a time which really is limiting BUT I am glad they are following precautions!
Also, ignore the sign outside that says they don t take credit cards. Don t be like me and waste precious time running around trying to find an ATM. Also, wish you could pre- purchase tickets and sign up for tours online it would be so helpful!
Interesting former home of Ernest Hemingway. Beautiful house and grounds, located very close to the Key West Lighthouse. On the highest point on Key West at 14 feet above sea level.
It s part of history. Interesting and nice to see it in person.
Interesting home kept in the original style. In the end better to read his books or biography then to see his home.
We really enjoyed this place. It is rich with history of Hemingway and his life. There are all kinds of photos, trinkets and items that were important to him and his life. The house itself is beautiful and the gardens are well-kept. The swimming pool was nice too. There is a gift shop on the grounds as well.
There is a guided tour you can listen in on and you can learn all about Hemingway s life. The biggest surprise was the many cats roaming the grounds. There were so many of them and you can even pet them. For the price, it s a must-see attraction in the Keys.
