My mother was sent here for physical therapy a few years ago and they were great. When unfortunate circumstances occurred this year, I was relieved to have her sent here again. However, after a month, the physical therapist noted to her insurance company that she was physically ready to go home, which she wasn't. Not even 24 hours after her discharge, she fell and had to be sent back to the hospital and return to the rehab five days later. Her physical therapists had her do less exercises and she was walking less than she did the first time. They didn't properly prepare her for her home life. She was still weak and in some pain, but her physical therapist noted to the insurance company that she was fine. Therefore she had to be discharged before she was properly healed. Also, when we tried to appeal for a later date, we were told that it was approved, but later informed that it was a clerical error and had to be discharged a day and a half later. When she was being discharged, they told her to hurry because they had someone else waiting for the room. Like someone said in the reviews before, don't let the scenery and well sanitized environment fool you, like it did us.
I really dont care if they come after me but my mom was sent there last year for rehab on her leg and didnt come out that place alive nobody to this day would give me answers please anybody that has a loved one there please be on top of everything 24/7 you never know i am so devastated
The reviews here are in line with my experience. Personally my grandfather was here and was suffering from dementia. He was seeing an occupational named Cara Singer and she was slapping him. I was surprised and angered by this. This place should be shut down. My grandfather would be better living on the subway tracks of NYC and receive better care from the common good of people that he would here.
I gave them one star because I had to. The facility is nice but the staff are naughty mean immigrant works who don't care about the residents. They have Staff who are physically and emotionally and verbally abusive if your family member is not with it, they will get abuse. And management knows about it and they do nothing about it. And if your a american worker looking for employment dont work here it is like working in hell with demons. Also they are always trying to find reasons to fire you. And will have you arrested . The worst person in the facility is a RN nurse manger who is a bully she covers up all the abuse. She about 400 hundred pounds and Jamaican. Not everything that glitters is gold.
They had a woman in there who they were trying to make look incompetent so they can keep her there and get her social security, but when people with limited resources get admitted they get what they can get and kick them out. Beware of this nursing beautiful facility horrible staff long term staff. Only VIP rehab residents are treated well or people with alert family members.
My mother who had Alzheimer's was a resident on the memory care care floor in Stoltz Pavilion for 6 yrs. She got wonderful care. I can't say anything negative about the place. Best decision was
Hebrew Home touts itself as advocates against Elder Abuse among other fancy mission statements pasted along their website/walls, however they do not practice what they preach. Their nursing staff in general is sub-par and their administration turns a blind eye to Elder Abuse so I urge you to send your loved ones to another facility. Their one bright spot is a good PT/OT center and staff plus there are some very good nurses but not nearly enough when figured in the the bad. Hebrew Home also employees dumpy looking Security Guards resembling police academy rejects of the worst sort who have shown terrible judgement and make it a pain to see your loved ones. Burke is miles better than HH, as is The Wartburg and several other assisted living/Physical Rehab facilities and I strongly urge you to consider this comment before fooling for their fancy website and inconsequential view of the Hudson River. They also have no spine when standing up to insurance co's/medicaid and will throw your loved ones out before they are ready which is the fault of their doctors, not their social workers who are very professional and helpful.
my mother started out in rehab which was mediocre. The staff does their best but they are very under staffed. The ratio is 1 aide for 11 people who are mostly all total care. They get the residents dressed and put them in a wheelchair where they stay all day until bedtime. My mother became comfort care which they assured us they could handle but who puts a dying person in a wheelchair all day? Luckily we were there everyday and insisted she be allowed to go to bed. We transferred my mother to Calvary in the Bronx where most of the patients are terminally ill and they have experience with this type of patient and the compassionate staff to care for them. If they tell you they can handle your loved one who is dying, don't believe it.
The best nursing home in the city of New York, my work experience with them was extremely exceptional :-) :-)
I was at the Hebrew home for six weeks for rehab. The rehab was great. However the facility has nursing students to help on weekdays so the serve is goods. You wait longer on wends the foods is another matter.
The main meal is at lunch, . The quality is fine at lunch. Supper , I must say was terrible. One can her tired of fish, or s rambles eggs. They place every one on a diet. I lost twelve
Pounds during my stay. One must remember that this is a kosher, so if you bring in food keep I t hiddenQ. If one must remember this is a rehab facility, not a gourmet facility
My Name is f. Moyet and Anicia has been coming to take care of my son for more than a couple of months. This young lady has been the out must professional, courteous and caring she has very good customer skills I commend her and your service for having someone like this in your staff. I just wanted to Thank you for the service provided by your staff.
Nobody knows what really goes in in Hebrew Home, and they know that. I was shocked to read so many of these poor reviews here because they know how to manipulate their public presentation everywhere else. They get BS "awards" and fake positive write ups in the NYT. What they could care less to know is how to treat residents like humans. Seeing how careless, nasty and vicious the aids, nurses, social worker and rest of the staff treat me, and what they do to my mother right in front of me, only god knows what is going on with my mom when I'm not around. None of the nightmares you hear about nursing homes in the news are shocking if you've ever stepped foot in this hell hole. I would put literally nothing, and I mean NOTHING, passed any of the animals that work there. If you're rich, I'm sure your loved one would be a little better off, but not by much. Make no mistake, this is an abusive, inhumane institution that should be shut down. It's tragic, and criminal what they get away with. As soon as I'm well enough, I will move my mom out of this death-row prison camp.
Diana1 dou hit the nail on the head, they removed my negative review, but I ALWAYS tell people about my mothers horrific experiences in that place and to steer clear.
The staff rude and unprofessional. The place dirty and smelly. Poor elderly have no choice.
I believe they are doing the best they can for my father in the elder care floor. The staff is nice considering they are doing one of the toughest job
If you want your loved one on a wheelchair for the rest of his/her life, so the staff doesn't have to bother with them, even if they walk perfectly well, place your loved one in the Hebrew Home.
If you want 80% of his clothes stolen when you bring them in, place your loved one in the Hebrew Home.
If you want your loved one go hungry all the time because the food is unappetizing, place him/her in the Hebrew Home.
If you want yourself to be patronize and ordered what to do by the social worker, place him/her in the Hebrew Home.
And if you want to blatantly be lied to by management, place your loved one in the Hebrew Home.
Loving , Caring, professional the best experience I have had with a MLTC. I definitely recommended, My family and I are grateful.
Good place, a lot of friendly people, but some of the nurses need to go back to school or something, I had one nurse very rude to me
My father is been there for a little over a year due to Alzheimers and Dementia, my sisters and I are very pleased with this place. He's doing great. The staff is very nice and they seem to care about my father and the other patients. The communication is very good as well. The social worker always keeps in touch with us. So far, I have no complaints about it.
I would not recommend any one to place there family in the nursing home. The food the give is not healthy this helps to kill the resident more fast. Pus if you have money you being treated different from the poor and middle class. I had work here before the dont prepared the food well and its dirty. This place is only generally client when the state is coming for inspection. T
My mother was admitted to rehab at the Hebrew Home where she benefited greatly. The problem is that one of the aides there solicited my sister and brother to forgo the possibility of long term care for a health care agency (such solicitation is against the HH rules) and my siblings unfortunately believed the horror stories of that aide, never considering that the aide was likely receiving a kickback for the referral. She connected my sister and brother to a middle-man who coordinated with the agency. Now that my mother is home it appears that her aide from that agency is abusing her, and my mother is too afraid to say anything. It is a scary situation.
One key to the HH is for family members, if possible, to be as present and proactive as possible. I found that even though my calls to staff were not always returned, when I went back to the HH I noticed that most of my requests were honored. I was given a reasonable explanation for those that were not. If you are a sibling and/or health care proxy, you can ask the nurse on duty for the weekly reports on your relative. This will enable you to see what is being done for your loved one daily and you can comment and ask for changes. I also hired a family friend to spend the day with my mother, once a week, and she would tell me what she saw while caring for her. (She never told me anything negative about the facility and the people working there. In fact, her feedback was always positive and she sent me a number of photos of my mother smiling and happy. I experienced the same thing whenever I would visit.) Additionally, family members and friends would visit at night, even over night, and during the day. I realize however, that no matter how caring and well-meaning, some people are not in the position to do that.
My mother always gave me positive feedback on staff.
While some have questioned the medical staff at the HH, I have found that the biggest problem may be the aides (while a number are very good, or good, others can be horrible). But there is supervision at the HH and you can complain. (Just make sure your complaint is confidential in case the aide hears about it and is tempted to retaliate.) It can get even trickier with home health aides because they can lie to you on the phone while offering inferior care and abusing your loved one when alone with him or her at home. I found this especially problematic for aides that work 24/7 (no matter how experienced). One reason may be that they are only paid for 13 of the 24 hours per day they are at the house. (My understanding is that Medicaid pays for 13 not 24.) This can be tenuous in the long run if your loved one is up at night and tends to wander, or needs additional care during the night.
Whether your loved one is at home or in a long-term care facility, it is important to be hands-on, watchful and visit as much as possible, if possible.
