Hung out with a friend of mine for the first time this weekend. We went to the cafe for brunch. It was overwhelmingly packed (regulars said unusually so) and there was someone singing and playing guitar while we were there. It was so packed that they ran out of milk and coffee while we were there. The noise eventually became too much for us and we escaped into the museum. The museum was quite interesting and the exhibits were very well done but I think I'll have to go to the cafe on a weekday. The weekend seems to be a bad idea

The food was good but the atmosphere was not

What a cute little way to spend your time during the day on a weekend. We just happened to stumble in after eating breakfast in the attached Cafe.

The museum is free for at least the next two years! It was sweet to see all the old school utensils and tools that were used in the mid-1900s. Also, it was really cool to see how a cannery works, even though it was the children's exhibit.

We stayed for a free presentation about African American civil liberties, then and now. We ended up winning a calendar in a raffle, and staying for 4 hours! It was a delightfully surprising day.

The team that is in charge of the Hayward Historical Society are awesome. If you have not visited recently, put it on your to-do list immediately. Due to the donation of a long-term Hayward attorney, Mr Martins, you no longer need to pay an entrance fee. Plan to have a nice lunch at The Cannery Cafe and visit the Historical Society current displays. It's a real treat

Get some context to help you appreciate where Hayward has been and where it is going by checking out this little gem of a museum. There's a fun kids section in the back and exhibits explaining the roots of several different communities that have made Hayward home for generations.

I needed something to do with my kids, find this online, and went. They have a wing specific for kids. And they had free admission! There was a canning line, store, fishing, and some other cool stuff. They had a cafe and knick knacks for sale, we bought something. Nice use of time.

Seabrisas is the best restaurant in hollister for sure and possibly the best in san benito county. I am a rib eye steak person, but I would choose their wasabi encrusted ahi tuna over the best steak I have ever eaten.

I like the newer location of the Hayward Historical museum with the cafe and the exhibits shows an informative and interesting look into Hayward's past and also like that they display new exhibits at the gallery a few times each year. Another plus has been the recent free admission which is rare these days at museums.

Attended their special evening exhibition and reception.
What a great event!
Exhibition of Japanese Encampment during WWII was both thorough and touching. The human spirit shines through those artifacts even after more than 70 years!
Staff at HAHS continues doing great jobs!
(BTW, good time to shoot the hippest restaurant in Hayward area!)

Also have a breakfast place inside called Cannery Cafe. They serve delicious sandwiches and breakfast items. Also have some great employees and customer dervice as well. When I moved to Hayward this was one of the first places I went. They did a fabulous job of relaying the history of Hayward to their audience through the use of photos, text and old automobiles. I enjoyed all that I learned as it allowed me to love my new home even more. The kids section was pretty cool too.

And I was so happy to learn that educators get a discount! Woot woot! Oh and ask them about field trips as well.

A free small intimate museum that is educational about the main people who make up Hayward, Castro Valley, Ashland and San Lorenzo. As an added bonus, there is a separate children area for kids to pretend to work in a grocery store, hotel, dress up and fish for fishes. A really nice place to take children and learn something yourself after eating at the Cannery, a yummy breakfast/lunch eatery. It is connected next to the museum.

If you have not recently visited the Hayward historical Museum I want to encourage you to do it now, today! The displays are just remarkable. If you are new to this area it will be very informative. If like me you have been here all your life, you will have the opportunity to enjoy historical memorabilia that is just beyond delightful. And when you visit the museum, be sure to have cited breakfast or lunch at The Cannery Cafe. Their offerings are delicious and a nutritious. Don't wait go soon!

The museum is very instructional, there is a cafe within the building serving a variety of good food.
Great for schools field trips, the staff members are friendly and have a vast knowledge of Hayward history.
