Typical bookstore, lacking all the cool features of Powell's city of books but still has a good selection. The setup of the store does kinda feel more like a gift shop than a bookshop because they've got all the knick knacks in the front. Gotta love Hawthorne street though and this place is good to peruse.

Nice small version of Powell's downtown. Selection is decent and they do buy back books but good to note they only buy books for their store. If you want more luck selling more, I would suggest downtown store.

A smaller version of the main store this location is actually split into a main store and a home and garden one two doors done. The Fresh Cup cafe has never disappointed me and this location buys books as well.

Easy to get lost with so many books and rooms! Powells usually has what you're looking for. Because it's a tourist destination, steer clear on Saturdays midday unless you like waiting in half hr lines.

First, I'll admit I'm really not a reader, but sweet daughter-in-law is. The Hawthorne location isn't overwhelming big, but still packs in hundreds of books. Just east of the store is their home and garden store with a combo of books and nick nacks. And they have coffee too. Parking can be a challenge, so I'd suggest parking a bit away and walking. If you do you'll get a Portland experience.

The Powell's on Hawthorn is one of my favorite places to buy books, de-stress, or just spend a few minutes while I'm in the area.

The staff are friendly and helpful, the selection is somehow exactly what you're looking for, and the location is great if you want to get a lot of shopping done.

Love Powell's! I went in for a specific book and asked for directions to it. The store is well organized and I found it, no problem. The price was good. It's also possible to stay and browse. Great store!

A cute little bookstore in a great location, with a good donut shop and nice stores close by. There is a decent selection, but not quite as many used books as I expected. Worth stopping in but I wouldn t make a trip specifically to see the store. Like I said, donuts are close by ( Blue Star,, very yum), as well as a GoodWill so it makes for a nice little outing to walk down Hawthorne.

2 locations on the same street- one for gardening and gifts, one for books. I love that they're open late! Definitely check out the garden/ gift store for any last minute gift ideas, found so much fun kitchen stuff, socks, cookbooks, stuff for kids, etc. Definitely not as big of a selection of books as downtown powells, but I was able to find everything I wanted as was happy not to have to drive downtown!

It's the largest independent book store in the world so you can spend hours just browsing the different floors. I would recommend this place for book lovers or people visiting landmarks of Portland.

Powells is always amazing. This was my first time going to the hawthorn location. And trust me I will be back. The lady who helped us was so amazing and went above and beyond. We are truly grateful.

Parking is always a challenge in the Hawthorne district, but worth the effort. Besides quickly finding the book I needed, I can usually pickup some necessary weirdness at the counter. Today was an "I read read people" bumper sticker

Quintessential bookstore. I could be happily lost here for days perusing their carefully curated collection of books and merchandise. Makes for a perfect stop for anyone looking to explore and enjoy anything from the non digital world.

Awesome bookstore couldn't ask for a better place to shop for books. Had every book imaginable even had games small selection of games but very unique games I was very impressed. It wasn't the cleanest store in town and was very overloaded but to a bookworm it was Heaven. It was several stores combined into one long store even entertained a coffee shop. If you're into books on any subject this is the place to go it's worth the trip they offer you used and new books on any subject that you could dream of. Adult books young adult books and children's books it's all here. There's even nick-nacks and collectibles. This place truly captures the imagination it was a fun trip.

Powell's is a wonderful local bookstore. This location is smaller than their flagship store in Downtown Portland. I really like to buy my children's books here. You can usually find a used book for any title. They are very fairly priced. Also, if you have used books you can sell them to Powell's. They will give you cash or store credit. The credit to the store is more than the cash price. They also have a coffee shop and small gift area in the store.

I went in there to try and sell about 100 books from my collection. I first went in to see if someone could help me bring them in since I had to park 3 blocks away and had a 2 year old with me. However, they refused. After lugging all the books in by myself I stood there while the guy "went through" all my books. He didn't even look at the title of a lot of them and would just give it right back. When they advertise that they'll "buy used books" it's a little misleading. They bought a total of 11 books which made it not even worth the trip. About 80% of the ones they didn't buy were in fantastic condition. Overall, it was terrible customer service and a terrible experience. I will not return nor do I recommend them.

Don't expect the awe-inspiring immensity of the Powell's location on Burnside, but you can expect the charm. I met my favorite poet, Anis Mojgani, at this location. Maybe you'll meet one of your heroes there too.

By far my second favorite book store in the world. #1 is the downtown location. The staff here are very friendly, and extremely helpful. Often, the books I desire aren't at this location, but they can and will have them delivered there.
