Not a good school. Very biased towards students who do not meet their desired demographic. Laura Alaniz and staff base their disciplinary actions on the color of the student to determine who is guilty and who is not. I can sit here and right a long story of all the drama we have faced at this school but a review couldn't possibly covered all the nonsense we have endured. Most parents would have left by now but I am teaching my child that you don't run from your problems. We are only treated this way because we are not wanted there and by leaving you give them what they want.

I loved this school when my oldest first started but once my youngest started everything changed. The first year she had a teacher who seemed to be more worried about the shoes she had on then actually teaching my daughter. She made her cry often to the point she use to cry when she had to go to school. The second year I felt as if she had a teacher that just wanted her to get kicked out because she had to actually teach her more then a few of the other kids. My daughter is a very shy quiet kid so it wasn't like she was disruptive. This school seems to favor certain kids more then the others and I should've known this when my oldest was accepted because she had high testing scores but wasn't accepted prior to them knowing that. This school is more about gaining money and wanting kids who can test high.

I give this school one star because my 3rd grader at the time, had to tolerate a traumamatic bullying experience, given that this is an "IB" school, its also supposed to be one of the top schools in the heights, and HISD pushes to implememt the "no tolerating bullying policy". My daughter was bullied for months by another little girl in the class, and then it progressed to her physicaly hitting my daughter. My daughter was hit in the cafateria and when she went to let an adult know, was told, you guys need to handle it yourselves. When the first incidents happened i followed the "chain of command" emailed the teacher, the magnet coordinator Ms. Clark, and then after my daughter was hit, I addressed the principal Mrs. Alaniz, pleading for her to do something. I felt she was being totally bias, and she basically swept it under the rug. Told me she did'nt feel it was bullying and she would investigate. After two weeks no word from her, I was irate and I ultimatley had to email the superintendent because nothing was being done. I also gave this school one star because i was told this school had vanguard neighborhood program, and GT children would be identified in the class and be given a more of a complex curriculum. Never happened! My daughters are both GT and every meeting I had, the teachers apparently dont implement any of that. Sorry so detailed, I just want parents to be aware of how this school is being handled by Mrs. Alaniz and the lack of interest she has for the children and their safety.
