For a new driver with no experience, they are a good company to start with. I spent 2 years working for Halvor. With that said, I would recommend getting a year under your belt, then go somewhere that will actually pays good. Newbies start at .32cpm for van. After 1 year, you get 2cpm raise. Every year after, it's only 1cpm. It would take a guy 7 years to make it to .40cpm! There are plenty of companies out there that would start you at .38-.40cpm with a year+ experience. As I said, get experience and move on.

Pros:
new equipment
DirectTV in the trucks
good bennies
very flexible with home time
consistent customer base.

Cons:
governed at 64
trucks are programmed for maximum fuel efficiency, so that an empty van only slightly accelerates faster than a load of 43,000 (not at all helpful when trying to merge into traffic)
Absolutely terrible pay structure
NO APU's, then complain if you idle too much the tiered bonus structure looks nice, but the way the load planners and dispatch run things, good luck making it to the 2 best bonuses
Even if you're willing to stay out 3+ weeks at a time, the best runs are reserved for their favorite drivers. In the 2 years I was with them, I only made it to the PNW once, Cali once, FL 3 times, ect.. I understand that dispatchers are not travel agents. But it gets frustrating seeing other van drivers on social media checking in from Maine, Cali, Florida, Arizona, ect.... while you're being dispatched to Ohio for the 3rd time in 4 trips out.

Overall, would not recommend. But if you must, get your year and bail.

Sorry but we have very bad experience with one of the broker Tylan. He book our dry van and when we arrived to shipper-they needs reefer. Sometimes that happens but broker don't agree to pay TONU(truck not in use). Started acting and explain what customer don't pay for his srew up.
I will believe-what we resolve that problem with some managers. Still not compensate for 60 miles to driver, fuel, time IFTA to NY....

I don't currently work for Halvor Lines but I've heard nothing but great things about them. I actually toured their Superior, WI terminal back in 2012 when I was in Truck Driving school and I really liked the facility and what they were about and had to offer as an OTR trucking company. I was also really impressed with how clean the trucks were. I've been driving local for the last 8+ years and I definitely would like to work for them in the near future if the opportunity presents itself. I always told myself that if I was to ever go OTR, it would be with Halvor Lines! Also, Congratulations on being named a Top Carrier to drive for 9 years in a row!
