Negative experience

With friends we booked the tour from Edinburgh to Loch Ness (Highland explorer tours), because despite being in English they had assured us the support of an audio guide in Italian. In the morning, at the start we were given a single audio guide (inadequate in content) out of 4, but we were assured that we would have had the reimbursement of the difference in cost for the inconvenience. What has not been done and, indeed, has made us waste more time on the already short holiday to return to the agency. During the long bus ride we were not allowed to do even a short photo break (only two stops). Point out that other agencies offered the same service at lower costs!

I took the 1 day Loch Ness Hunter tour and it was great. You leave Edinburgh at 8 and make it all the way through the Highlands to Loch Ness. The views are beautiful and you learn a lot from the driver on the way. The lunch they provided was a bit basic and the airco did not work that well in the bus but overall the tour was great.

I went a few years ago with friends and luckily happened upon the 3 day Isle of Skye adventure, hands down one of my favourite parts of out 16 day trip. When I return to beautiful Edinburgh, I will do this tour again. So much history, lots of stops along the way.

Had an absolutely wonderful experience with Haggis Adventures and tour guide Duncan! I did the 7 Days Coast to Coast but would have happily done the 10-day trip. Their attention to detail, excellent guide training, and totally reasonable pricing made it an adventure and an experience I will never forget! Thank you Haggis Adventures and Duncan for the awesome adventure through Scotland! I was the only Outlander fan and Canadian on board but was still given lots of historical detail relating to Canada and tidbits relating to Outlander! The whole experience felt wonderfully customized and well thought-out. The hostels we stayed at were awesome and clean with great staff. Morag's Lodge was absolutely lovely, including the food :-)
The tour was so good that at the last minute I booked an extra day long whiskey Distillery trip as well. Which was also awesome!
I wholeheartedly recommend Haggis Adventures :-)

So we are heading for Scotland and looking for a bus tour. We find that most of the tours don't seem to offer exactly what we want. Then we hit on Haggis Adventures. Everywhere they went on there 5 day tour was where we wanted to see. There where 3 of us my wife myself and our daughter. We are in our sixties our daughter her twenties so why would we go on a tour where we stayed in Hostels. Cause I'm sixtyish going on 35. Best decision we've made in a while. Duncan our driver and resident historian was amazing everywhere we went he regaled us with stories and the history of the area. He was pleasant and fun and an all round really great person. We met young people from Australia and Spain and Scotland etc. etc. Renews my faith in young people today. What a great bunch. So if your not feeling to old you gotta try this. And the very best part is I didn't have to keep kicking oldsters out of my way.

Thanks Duncan

I went on the 5 day Haggis tour of Scotlands Hebrides and words can't completely describe how amazing this tour was. In less than a week we explored the highlands of Scotland including the Isle of Lewis and Harris, Isle of Skye and Loch Ness - stopping off at many interesting and breathtaking sites along the way. We were blessed wih good weather 4/5 days but even a day of terrible rain couldn't dampen our spirits and being absolutely soaked through was worth it for the memories made.

Our guide, Carrie, was a definite highlight on the trip. Her stories and history lessons were educational and hilarious and her local knowledge of the best pubs to visit in each town was greatly appreciated

I feel I have come away with an amazing group of friends, and a new understanding & appreciation of Scotland. I can't recommend this trip enough!

I booked a day tour with Highland Explorer and then Haggis Adventures, thinking they were different tour companies. Wrong. They are one and the same. I had a horrible time in Highland Explorer so I was hopeful for Haggis on the Whiskey and Waterfalls day your. They advertise as wild and sexy (which I think is a little odd haha) but I was excited they said it would be more light hearted and fun and catered to people under 35. It was anything but. Our tour guide was over 50 and was very unfriendly until the end. Half the people on the tour were way over 35. Not to mention, His accent was so thick we couldn t understand him at all (not even a British person on the tour could). So I didn t get a verbal tour at all. Then, we get to the stops and he said a few words and then took off and left us. None of us could understand him so we didn t know when to get back to the bus. Then we get to the distillery tour and he was rushing us as soon as it was over. The whole time I felt like there was no time to enjoy. I didn t pay to sit on a bus all day... the only reason I m giving this review 2 stars instead of 1 is because he went out of his way to show us a Highland cow. He was finally nice towards the end of the day. I m really disappointed with Highland and Haggis. I feel deceived and let down. I am glad I saw the beautiful countryside but you can t rely on that as a tour company. They basically just offered a mode of transportation.

We really had a great day!

We really had a great day!
While there is a lot of road but it is inevitable if we want to go to Loch Ness! All the staff is super nice, as much to the welcome as our driver! Michael is really great! He makes us discover his beautiful country with pleasure! Unfortunately, having no English pushed, we did not understand all the stories he told us but it does not matter, we saw landscapes breathtaking and he makes his visit interesting!
Do not hesitate to ask for an audio guide before leaving!
At noon we receive a sandwich, a water brick and cupcakes, it can do little for the big eaters so do not hesitate to bring a pic nic! If not, there are regular stops where you can easily buy something to eat and also enjoy going to the toilet!
In any case it was really great! I recommend at 200%

Michael was terrific! He was great at pointing out interesting stuff while keeping all of us entertained for the three days we were with him. Even though we had bad weather on Skye, he was flexible and came up with quicker stops for us to do. This was my first bus tour, and I'm going to highly recommend Michael and Haggis Adventures to everyone.

Be wary of bogs on some scenic stops. Be sure to wear shoes you don't care about, or that can easily be cleaned, such as thongs or sandals.

I went on the 10-Day-Trip and it was awesome! Although I started the trip alone I met a lot of new, amazing people, who made the trip perfect. Michael and Yvonne as our drivers and guides were both very funny, had a lot to tell and show. I would recommend the Haggis Adventures 10-Day-Trip to anyone who wants to see and get to know Scotland well. It was one of the best trips I've ever done!

Went on a 3 day Isle of Skye Tour. The itinerary of the trip was switched without any notice, day 1 became day 3 and day 3 became day 1. We also stayed in different accomodation than what was originally quoted on the website when booked. The website states it is two nights in Inverness however we stayed in two totally different hostels each night. We were able to see a wide range of places in the Scottish highlands and learn lots of stories from the driver however it would have been nice to have more time to hike at some of the various stops along the way. We were also dumped at the green Wellington stop for lunch one day which was horrible!

I cannot say enough good things about this tour! We took the 3 day Skye High tour through the highlands which left from (and returned to) the Haggis offices on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Our tour guide, Calum, accompanied by his merry team, Fiona, Holly, and Jonathon, gave exciting stories and trivia facts about the places we were passing and stopping by. Scotland is gorgeous and full of such rich history!

The tour was all inclusive except for food and lodging (you can pay for lodging while booking). The price was perfect! We stopped at many quick stops for photos and longer stops to explore some of the beautiful scenery and attractions Scotland has to offer.

We rode on a 30+ person Mercedes coach bus, which was clean and comfortable, even through the windy roads in the highlands.

But! But but but! I need to mention how fantastic the entire team was while my now fiance and I got engaged! Calum went out of his way to be sure that we had all kinds of souvenirs from our trip.

All in all, a wonderful tour and well worth the money to make new friends, share experiences, and not have to worry about planning or missing any part of exploring the highlands!

I went on the 'Skye High' tour a few months ago and had a great time. The 3 day tour covers a lot of ground in such a short space of time. There is a lot of driving but you don't notice as the views are so beautiful and the bus makes regular stops to take in the sights. The tour guide was friendly, approachable and fun with a great sense of humour, making the trip even more enjoyable. The group was of mixed ages but everyone got along and had a lot of fun. Its an excellent way to meet people from all over the world and take in all that Scotland has to offer.

Two summers ago I traveled solo to Scotland and did the Skye High tour with Haggis. It was absolutely perfect for me as the other travelers included a wide range of people from other backpackers traveling alone to even a family with adult "kids". I felt extremely comfortable and well cared for the entire trip, plus it was nice to make like minded friends.

Our guide did a great job of balancing fun with education and story telling. I even tell some of her stories to people here at home! The stops were amazing and she used great judgement to bring us to some incredible places. My favorites were visiting the highland cows, Glencoe, and the Isle of Skye hike that we did to view Storr.

I can't wait to come back to Scotland and do another Haggis tour with my husband! I'm eyeing the tour that includes the Hebrides Islands.

One day tour in the highlands.

Very friendly driver.
Audio guides available in French.
Bus with usb socket to charge the phone at the end of the day

However, no stop at Urquhart Castle. It is not possible to know when to listen to the audio guide numbers.

Would have deserved more small photo stops (a few minutes) many beautiful landscapes passed too quickly.

We had the misfortune of having to share our hostel with a Haggis Adventures tour on Orkney.

I was absolutely appalled at the behaviour of their tour party in a family friendly hostel. They behaved like drunken animals, shouting/screaming/swearing until nearly 4am, it was like a rugby club tour an 18/30 and a hen do all mixed up.

I m no prude, and of course I ve behaved like that in the past, but never in an environment where there are children present or where I would ruin anyone else s evening or holiday.

If you re a prospective customer I d avoid them if you don t fancy drunken debauchery until the early hours, including stripping your clothes off in drinking games.

If you re googling them as an accommodation provider and they ve requested a booking, avoid them like the plague unless you want to risk negative reviews from your more human guests!

They are really good to ... TRICK people! Was not the tour we expected! We booked the Skye High three days tour expecting to spend one night in Loch Ness and one in Isle of Skye as THE TOLD US INTO THE AGENCY! We passed two nights in Loch Ness. And they don't want to give any refound. They only said it was a "misunderstanding. DON'T GO WITH THEM!

They were good at ripping us off! My only wish was to go to the Isle of Skye. We were promised in the agency and through a deceptive online brochure that we would have stayed one night at Loch Ness and one on Skye. You can imagine our disappointment when we discovered that we would spend two nights at Loch Ness. But at least a full day on Skye could be done? NO! We arrived after ten on the island and left at 3/4. 3 and a half hours by bus. 2 hours in the useless village. 2 hours for a lunch break ?? we're serious? and the rest of the time (do the calculations) to see scenic spots attached to the road. Other than nature and landscapes of Scotland. The guide (oh no it's just a driver !!!) is prepared on generalist and banal things. From an organized tour in Scotland I expect something more at least on nature! I've never heard of the bog. It makes us that if we are lucky we would have seen the golden eagle. Did he have binoculars? NO! How could we have seen it? He knew nothing about fauna and flora and history then only the most trivial things that can be found in a fourth category guide. The breaks are literally ridiculous. Hours in useless places to eat or buy bullshit and a few minutes where it deserves.
Time is only spent on the bus !! AND YOU DO NOT EXPLAIN IT BEFORE!
as BUGIE tells you about the tour, explaining to you that only some dates included the night on Skye. But then why write it everywhere and sell you the trip like this? They want to rub us and they don't care about the customer and if they are satisfied or not.
DO NOT GO WITH THIS TOUR !!

I did the Hebridean Hopper tour with a group from Australia.. Someone say Hi to Ross and Colin the driver.. Sadly due to inclement weather we weren't able to get over to Lewis or Harris (the ferry wasn't able to do the run), but apart from that we had a wonderful time.. Ross is so knowledgeable about the highlands and its history (also an actor in a show being filmed there - sorry Ross I canna remember the title - Oh.. Hang on.. Is it Outlander???).. BTW how was that stubby of Irnbru cider?? I have a ton of pictures of the highlands, I was totally gobsmacked by the beauty of the place.. So much so that I'm saving for another trip over.. 18 days is no where near enough time to explore the UK, and next time I'm spending all the time in Scotland and especially the Highlands.. We stopped in at Pitlochry and I bought a Tweed cap from MacNaughtons, its my mostest cherished souvenir, I only wish I'd bought a scarf too.. Something for the next trip.. The Jacobite steam train ride was awesome. I have so much praise for your guides.. I'd be happy to ride on your wee yellow bus again in the future..

I just posted up a few photos.. I have plenty more.. I hope its ok I posted a pic of our awesome driver and tour guide.. If not just delete that one..

I have to say again, if I haven't already.. Scotland has to be the most beautiful and historically fascinating place ever..

I went on the Loch Ness tour yesterday with tour guide Rick (or was it spelled Rich). Anyway, I found him to be very knowledgeable, informative and entertaining. I enjoyed his jokes and sense of humour, but he was also very professional and took care of the safety of the passengers. One suggestion is to have an extra 5min toilet stop on the way to Loch Ness and stop for 10min at one or two other stops along the way and just take a later boat ride. I'd have liked more time to explore the town, and in hindsight, I'd have not done the boat ride as fort Augustus was a really cute town with some nice walks there which id liked to have explored. The other tourists who didn't do the boat ride enjoyed walking around the town, but we were fortunate to have exceptional weather, so, if it were raining I might have been glad to be in the boat...

My wife and I had the great pleasure and good fortune to book this tour, AND have Chrisp as our substitute tour guide for Jemma. Jemma, I m sure you re great, but no regrets as we thought Chrisp was the best. He did a perfect job of keeping things light, fun, salty, hilarious, educational, friendly and getting feedback from the group about different things we could do. Chrisp was a doubt of energy and stayed engaging even when the crowd didn t respond with much feedback. Thanks Chrisp, hope to cross paths again.
The tour itself was stunning. The towns and epic landscape of the highlands. It was well worth the money.
The ONLY thing I d give but of warning about is Morag s hostel is a ton of fun, but bring your earplugs if you want to get to sleep early because the party goes late. If you can rally to party like you re in your 20 s for a night or two you won t regret it. Also recommend the pub quiz.
All in all a beautiful experience of Scotland that left us resonating with inklings of the deep Scottish love for that magical land and it s people.

A travel agency that takes you up in the highlands a super fine bus journey of about 12.5 hours with many, sights along the way. Very good driver who also tells about scotland's war history and the truth about how the film braveheart came to. The reality of wilkuam wallace is much more bloody and unusual. However, I had some difficulties with the Scottish English.

I chose to do the tour of the highlands and loch ness ... 12 hours ... well if you're reading my review and you want to do it ... Do not do it!
If you want to visit the highlands, do so at least by staying there for 4 nights.
In those 12 hours I was alone and exclusively on the bus.
We only had 3 stops to go to the bathroom.
In one place we stopped more and it was loch ness where I took the cruise 2 hours of rest ... The rest only travel by bus, I did not see anything, all seen from afar and the windows.

P. . I have chosen to take a cruise on the lake, because if I had not done it, it would have been even worse.

The 10-day compass buster tour left me feeling extremely disappointed... when it ended. The reality of having to leave the great friends I had made and the country I had fallen in love with was crushing.

I can't recommend the tour highly enough. I got to see so much of Scotland in a short space of time, the accommodation was excellent, and I was very happy with the itinerary. My tour guides Rich and Duncan were top lads! They shared a great knowledge of the histories of the places we visited, it was informative and entertaining, they were funny, and they kept us all in good spirits when we were wet, cold, and tired.

As always, the people you're with can make or break the experience, but I was lucky enough to share my tour with a great group of people from all walks of life.

Our first tour in Scotland was a day tour to majes...

Our first tour in Scotland was a day tour to majestic Glen Coe, Ben Nevis and Loch Ness with tour director Mahri, who was organized, funny and kept us entertained throughout the day with information, stories, myths, and legends of this extraordinary landscape of Scotland. She also played a variety of music including Scottish tunes. We were in a large coach bus for the day -- very comfortable with adequate stops for loo and snacks. This was a wonderful tour and we saw so much. DO bring a waterproof raincoat or jacket and waterproof footwear because the weather will change every five minutes throughout the day; in May we experienced brilliant blue skies, fog, sleet and rain, all in one day, and there are puddles that will be hard to avoid. If you don't like the weather wait five minutes and it will change. Literally. This tour was a wonderful introduction to Scotland and the tour office was easy to find right on the Royal Mile. It was raining when we arrived and we had to wait outside for about ten minutes before the ladies opened the office. It would have been nice if it were open when we arrived b/c some folks really got drenched. They ask you to arrive 15 minutes prior to the departure time, so the office should be open 15 minutes ahead so tourists have a dry place to wait. But this is nitpicking and was not the tour leader's fault, but the fault of the tour office itself. Mahri was the best! Great tour!

One thing though is at the end of the tour it was mentioned if you do another tour with the haggis, sham rocker companies etc then you can get a discount...this should be mentioned more clearly when first booking this tour online as I have done a sham rocker tour before and had no idea I could get a discount!

We saw a lot of things we wouldn't have expected and every day was full of activities. The tour seemed to be well planned and the staff to be perfectly organized.
It was much better than expected and we would do it again any time! :)

Worst tour guide ever. I understand its their job ...

Worst tour guide ever. I understand its their job to in form you of things on the tour, but this guy would not shut up. He talked 11 1/2 hr out of a 12 hr tour, he just kept repeating himself over and over and would tell stories about things you could not see, and would totally miss things you could. Supposed to be a Scottish tour and I get the guy from Argentina who like to talk with his mouth over the microphone. Asked him several time to turn the volume down, was so loud I had ear plugs in and could still hear him like they weren't even there.
