I cannot say enough good thing's about receiving care at GHS. Every Department and provider I have seen has addressed my problem/problem's with the utmost respect and integrity along with open friendly dialect. I have gotten into my visit's in a timely manner and only had one untimely experience with hearing back from my Provider's RN.
Unfortunately the phone system was inundated with overwhelming Covid-19 calls and unable to take my call. I went to Urgent Care Onalaska Clinic and was seen, tested and released with prescription in hand for my symptoms all within 1 1/2 hours..
All question/concern's I had were answered clearly & concisely.
Dr. even apologized for keeping me waiting 20 minutes. I Being a retired RN after working in both GL Hospital Clinic know too well what he meant.
The people who reside in this Tri-State area are Truly Blessed to have access to Two Exceptional Medical Institutions's.
Hospital/Clinic and being in his shoes I knew where he was coming from.
I Don't think I'm bias being a former employee of the facility because everyone that knows me knows I " call a spade a spade".
We would live in this Tri-State area are Truly Blessed to have 2 Medical Facilities
My son's father was brought in on med flight 8/13/2020. He had emergency, life saving surgery after a motor vehicle accident. He was not expected to survive but due to the exceptional care & prayers for God to save him. He is alive today. My kudos to the Gundersen staff to do what was needed to save his life.
My concern though has been with the communication between staff & to loved ones. My son's father has had 3-4 room changes since waking from his coma. Family was never notified. We'd call the HUC desk & they said "he isn't here". Doctors & staff never notify family of incidences or successes. Multiple times I've left my contact information (I am a co-guardian of the patient) and they have lost or misplaced my contact info. I've called multiple times to take with the patient & they don't have my information.
The physical care for the patient is exceptional but the care & communication for the family is lacking tremendously. When I give my info to a nurse today, the info is lost tomorrow & I have to explain myself again & again.
I work in a hospital myself. Communication is a very vital piece. This needs to be worked on in the Gundersen System. Also you aren't just treating a patient (and we thank you for saving our loved ones life) but the family who is suffering too needs to stay in the loop. Sonething for you to work on. Thank you!
Some of the worst staff. Treats people like addicts for calling in for daily medication.
I had a really bad experience in the ER. This is my personal experience, NOT work related. I wasted a lot of money and time to not be helped, then find out later it was something serious. Won t be back.
Went in about a year ago to the ER on a Saturday for a several anxiety attack. Sat in the waiting room for almost an hour before I was put in a room.
All they did was tell me to put a gown on (idk WHY??!!) and watch some tv. They put a heart monitor on my finger and a blood pressure cuff on me and just kinda left me there for about an hour and a half/two hours.
Absolutely no medication was administered.
I MAYBE spent twenty minuets total talking to four separate people, was given a note for work and sent on my way.
Now these people want over a THOUSAND DOLLARS....like, FOR WHAT??? So far NO ONE has given me a fully itemized list of costs and I m gonna let it sit in collections till they tell me EXACTLY penny for penny what I m paying for and why.
