Greenhouse17: Nurturing Lives Harmed by Intimate Partner Abuse
Intimate partner abuse is a pervasive problem that affects millions of people worldwide. It can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse. Victims of intimate partner abuse often suffer in silence due to fear, shame, and isolation. However, there is hope for those who are experiencing or have experienced intimate partner abuse. Greenhouse17 is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive services to help individuals and families affected by intimate partner abuse.
Greenhouse17 was founded in 1984 as the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program (BDVP) in Lexington, Kentucky. Over the years, BDVP expanded its services to include emergency sheltering for victims of domestic violence and their children. In 2017 BDVP changed its name to Greenhouse17 to reflect its broader mission of nurturing lives harmed by intimate partner abuse.
Greenhouse17 offers a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual client. These services include:
24-Hour Hotline: Greenhouse17 operates a 24-hour hotline that provides crisis intervention and support for victims of domestic violence.
Emergency Shelter: Greenhouse17 operates an emergency shelter that provides safe housing for victims of domestic violence and their children.
Advocacy: Greenhouse17 advocates on behalf of victims of domestic violence by providing legal advocacy and assistance with obtaining protective orders.
Counseling: Greenhouse17 offers individual counseling sessions for clients who have experienced trauma related to domestic violence.
Support Groups: Greenhouse17 facilitates support groups where clients can connect with others who have experienced similar situations.
Children's Services: Greenhouse17 provides specialized services for children who have been exposed to domestic violence or are living in abusive homes.
Community Education: Greenhouse 17 conducts community education programs aimed at raising awareness about the issue of intimate partner abuse and promoting healthy relationships.
All these services are provided free-of-charge thanks to generous donations from individuals, corporations, foundations as well as government grants from local state agencies such as Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), Department Of Community Based Services (DCBS), Office Of The Attorney General (OAG) among others
At the heart of all these programs is a commitment to empowering survivors through education about healthy relationships while providing them with safety planning tools so they can make informed decisions about their future without fear or intimidation from their abusers
GreenHouse 2022 has been recognized nationally as one among few organizations across America offering innovative solutions towards ending Intimate Partner Violence(IPV). In addition it has received numerous awards including but not limited too; The National Association For Children Of Alcoholics Award(2019), The National Network To End Domestic Violence Award(2018), The Mary Byron Project Celebrating Solutions Award(2017).
