Green Top Sporting Goods Review

My husband and I are very happy that Green Top has moved into a position to compete with Bass Pro and Cabela's. It has come a long way from that cramped space on Rt. 1! Customer service was excellent both over the phone and in person. I gave it only four stars because prices were exorbitant on almost everything we looked at.

Love the store but sometimes they are so busy it's hard to find someone to take your money. The window shoppers can slow things down when you want to go in and make a serious purchase.

Been around forever. Just got new big building. Amazing selection for all fishing and hunting needs. Plus all kinds of outdoor equipment and gear. Joe is the man. Was very knowledgeable and patient. However, everyone is very nice and accommodating

The store has a wide varsity of hunting, fishing, and camping equipment. The clerks are friendly and knowledgeable. I found exactly what I wanted in minutes, but it was hard to leave right away.

Great outdoors store with an awesome selection. Went in to see their fly fishing area as my previous visits had all been for firearms. The customer service was outstanding as always and their expertise changed my mind on my original selection and ensured that I got exactly what I was looking for.

Great fishing equipment selection! Their staff is knowledgeable and helpful . I traveled a lot of stores, both small and large, in the Richmond area to find the fishing rod and reel I wanted and they had both and were able to help me with all the questions I had .

It has everything the sportsman could want at great prices!

Every sportsman needs to have this on his/her short list. Guns, Fishing, and all sorts of outdoors stuff. Have been coming here for close to 40 years and they always have whatever I need. Tough or impossible to find items and really helpful and nice patient staff too!

I ve been a customer of Green Top for many years. I can say that today I am no longer giving them a cent. I walked in to buy some accessories and there was zero enforcement of covid safety measures. At least 60% of customers AND employees were not wearing masks. Zero social distancing. Zero effort from the man at the entrance who was supposed to be passing out masks. There are even signs on the entrances stating masks are required!! I immediately left the store and called a manager who told me that he can t ask people if they have health issues preventing them from wearing masks and basically told me to get lost. There is nothing stating you have to ask people if they have a medical issue preventing them from wearing them. You just tell them they either wear one or leave... This in my mind demonstrates Green Top s disregard for the safety of their customers and is only concerned about taking advantage of the situation to increase sales. It s places like this that keep Covid spiking the way it is.

Best outdoor store I've been to. Beats Bass Pro and Cabela's in my book. I like the fact that you can just pick up any of their long guns and look them over. No waiting for staff to assist you 1 gun at a time!

These folks have come a long ways since the 70's. My go-to tackle place.

One of the best places I've shopped on the net. Had a small problem with an order; contacted them via e-mail had a response the next day. Customer service was excellent and very timely in getting problem solved and replacement part shipped. Thank you Mr Pat Hopkins for your courteousness and customer care. I liked walking in the door and being greeted by a friendly face. Several staff were helpful in answering questions and although still undecided, I'm certain I'll be back for a purchase in the near future. Thanks for your help and giving me a few things to think about. See you soon!

Prices are a little higher than Bass Pro/Cabela s, but it s worth supporting a local store!

Great place. huge selection of new and used unlike other gun stores in that area

Long line to purchase hand guns. No ammo but lots of just about everything else. The fishing rods are on sale right now. Pretty good deals too.

The archery department is great! Super nice and helpful staff.

Clean, a lot of guns, a lot of knives, great customer service, great selection.

Others have said, huge selection and the ability to handle firearms without hassle.

If this place don't have your hunting, fishing and camping supplies no where will.

Most helpful staff in Richmond! Jonathan Stultz was our tour guide for the purchase of two excellent items we ll enjoy for years! He was helpful, VERY well informed and answered me and my daughter s questions with enthusiasm and interest. Thanks Jonathan! Keep it up... cheers

As well stocked as a Cabela's, but much cheaper. Their used guns are second to none in VA.

Great staff and selection, but expect a long wait if buying a firearm. Demand is high.

Nice store and nice employees. Mix between Bass Pro, Cabela's and Gander Mountain. They do have a fly fishing section!!

Always better service and prices than bass pro shops.

This is the only place I will shop when I am going to buy guns, rods or bows. The big box stores my have some better deals from time to time on clothing and accessories but the staff hear is the most knowledgeable by far.

This is the best store for outdoor people. Plenty of staff on hand to help. Knowledgeable people. Plenty of inventory to choose from. Worth the trip

I liked the personal,attention that I was given in the gun department by Dave and the waterfowl department by Brandon. Both were very patient with this senior citizen! I had a lot of questions and they were throughly answered. A reviewer named Jordan said they never answer the phone. The phone rang several times while I was there. If someone was not with a customer they answered. I'm glad Dave did not stop talking to me to answer the phone. I think that would be rude to me, the customer in the store....so I disagree with his complaint. He also complained about having to provide so many forms of ID and proof of residence.....I am sure glad they do that !!! We have too many people having guns that should not.

Bought my first firearm from here. Wonderful staff, excellent selection and just an all round good experience. Will definitely buy more from here

Great place for hunting, fishing, reloading equipment. Good prices, helpful staff. On occasion I have driven oner 100 miles round trip to shop there.

This place had a wide variety of firearms and bows. They sell new and used guns from rifles and shotguns to hand guns and revolvers. Very clean and friendly staff.

Green top ........ What can I say, you sold out your small town roots for the corp gimic. I can remember being 11 and going to the old location with my dad and everyone asked if they could help with anything . Today you visit the new location and no one even looks up at you when you stop off at the counter. Not to mention you can really see the markup on price for items. Same boots same jackets you can get at Bass pro for 20 bucks cheaper in most cases. Save 20 bucks by driving 3 Miles the other direction ...... That's a big selling point.

I ordered a gift card for my son for Christmas and was very nervous that I ordered it too late, but they were amazing and I got it just in time!

Went here today just to browse. The service was great. The store seemed to be a little overcrowded but that s how it goes. The checkout line moved fast. That s all folks.

Great place for getting your hunting and or fishing supplies with good prices. The people here were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the stuff that we needed. The parking lot was large and easy in and out access.

Had a hard time getting assistance. Store was under stocked. Maybe because of hunting season.

Green top is and always has been a great place to shop. I've been shopping them since they had their old store on route 1, and still shop them at the knew store in the old Gander Mountain building.

I definitely can say that I do not look like the typical customer, but I was treated respectfully and felt comfortable during my visit. I wanted to get fishing gear and a firearm, the staff were attentive and professional; absolute golden definition of southern hospitality. I learned so much and look forward to visiting again soon.

If your into guns, then this is your mecca. The staff if very friendly and knowledge on firearms.

Pricing, service, and product assortment are all excellent. I have made many trips (over 1 hr. away) for my outdoor sporting goods needs. In fact, I prefer Green Top over the big name outdoor store a mile down the road. I have purchased a variety of items from fly rods to firearms with great experiences each time. I also find that their reloading and fly tying selection to be extremely good for being a local store.

First time ever shopping here. Lots to choose from, a little cluttered maybe it's so much crammed in because of the holidays? I would shop here again .
