It's a casual play theater. Place where you can enjoy if you do not have anything better to do.

We bought seasons tickets and have enjoyed every show! We will subscribe next season!

It was a solo date but I had a great time at the theater despite the fact that I was watching Kiinalik: these sharp tools which was a little terrifying but overall my experience at the GCTC was great. I recommend.

Never disappointed. Great mix of plays and the best actors are chosen to captivate me and assure my coming back.

They have Great in their name because they really are. I have been a subscriber here for years. Prefer it to NAC theatre.

Create plays that always entertain. The facility and location is excellent in the heart of Hintonburg/Wesrboro. An annual subscription is well worth it!

The Great Canadian Theatre Company offers a wonderful experience for their audience. The offer a variety of plays throughout each season that are suitable for any audience. The atmosphere is inviting and makes for an interesting experience. GCTC donates generously to many of the charities I volunteer for throughout the city.

Great smaller theatre, in the Hintonburg district of Ottawa. Specifically geared toward presenting content that celebrates Canada and Canadians, this theatre runs year round, and the neighbourhood has plenty to offer before and after a show, no matter what your tastes are. Conveniently located a few blocks from the Queensway(Hw,y 417), and on major transit routes. Super friendly and accommodating staff, make an already pleasurable experience, even more enjoyable.

It's a nice theatre not too far from public transit.

Amazing plays, green building, great staff. Please support the arts! It's entirely worth it.

What every young wife needs to know, was a dark Canadian shoe. Actors were very good. Too dark for my taste though.

We attended a play there and we had a wonderful experience. Staff is friendly and facility is very nice. The only problem is parking: street parking not very easy to find.

With today's situation being what it is.. this place is def a lock down.. def not a necessity or all that interesting.. been watching for something interesting to come to light here but hasn't been worth while in 7 yrs.. Hard pass. Rather use my money to feed the hungry.

Wonderful productions in a smaller, more intimate venue

This is an intimate performance space with terrific acoustics and comfortable seating. In general, the choice of plays is interesting and the actors are superb. Over the past 35 years, I have been entertained and provoked but rarely bored.

Terrific performances by all the actors and a thoughtful debate on an issue of current concern.

Top notch Canadian entertainment! Turn off the tube, and cue stage left!

Really enjoyed the play "Drowning Girls". Very creative, fun and acting well done.

We just saw Bang Bang at the GCTC and we highly recommend it. Although it is about a serious subject, there is actually a lot of humour in it. The audience gave it a well-deserved standing ovation.

We attended a "Young People's Theatre" play for babies and toddlers it was extremely well done.

A wonderful place that isn't trying to be something that ot isn't. Casual and quaint. Many hidden gems for plays here. The staff and volunteers are sweet

The Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) is a professional theatre company based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1975 by a group of professors and graduate students at Carleton University. Riding a wave of cultural nationalism, founders Robin Mathews, Larry McDonald, Bill Law, Greg Reid and Lois Shannon envisioned a theatre company that would produce only Canadian plays, especially those with social and political relevance. Driven by a dream to place Canadian stories and Canadian history front and centre in our country s universities and theatres, the company launched its first production in August 1975.

The group has its origins in a season of Canadian theatre produced by the Sock 'n' Buskin Theatre Company at Carleton University. From Carleton, the company moved to a converted firehall in Ottawa South (presently the Ottawa South Community Centre) and then, in 1982, to the Gladstone Theatre on Gladstone Avenue. In September 2007 the company moved into a larger venue called the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre.

It's a cozy theatre, but the quality of the plays is fantastic. Whoever is responsible to bringing in the plays and finding the talent does a wonderful job. I have been disappointed after watching plays in huge theatres with tickets costing hundreds of dollars, but so far, I have not been disappointed by a single show at the GCTC. Well done.

Wonderful plays, beautiful building with perfect-sized theatre, charming space, really nice people, bring wine to your seat - all good!

From my experience, they probably put on the best quality stuff in town.

I really love the GCTC but unfortunately the excessive perfumes make me sick on most of my visits which makes it difficult to enjoy the experience. It would be nice if they got on board with public health and safety by working towards creating a scent free environment.

The show we saw was outstanding ... However, because the theatre is an older venue I found the legroom for the seating quite restricting. I am 5ft 10in and even I found the room available insufficient for my size. So much so that if the intermission did not come when it did then I would have had to disturbe the audience seated behind me...

The play I went to see was amazing it had all walks of life involved in it.

Great staff, great shows. I'm biased cause I work there. I went there for years before I ever worked there though. And it keeps getting better :)

Just saw the production of "Behavior". It is an excellent venue and both the theatre itself as well as the bar /common areas were well appointed.

Been a season subscriber along with friends for years. The calibre of acting and play choice has always been provocative and entertaining. The theater itself is beautiful and well laid out with not a bad seat in the house. If you're looking for an entertaing evening out with plenty of after theater (as well as pre theater) options for drinks and/or dinner, there are many places located close to GCTC. Well priced tickets and friendly volunteers who make sure everything runs smoothly, the GCTC is a gem, not only for Hintonburg but for the Ottawa theater crowd.
