Grasmere House Hotel Review

The place looked old in a good way-lots of character. We slept in a 4 post bed, in a room overlooking the small river behind the hotel. It still had TV and wifi. The bathroom had big sinks and great water pressure. The restaurant was in a conservatory on the back, and the food was great.

Excellent location by the river, would be great for weddings/functions. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed. The staff are attentive and helpful. Breakfast wasn't a highlight, limited choices and not enough staff available. All in all, good value.

Delightful, quiet, typical English family run cottage. Nice, spacious and clean rooms.
The only flaw is the breakfast: little organized, if the stuff is missing they don't restore it, little choice.

A beautifully situated hotel with an outdoor terrace and a spacious garden adjacent to a small river. The staff is very hospitable but not always professional and sometimes even. For example, the receptionist had to operate the bar simultaneously. Not everything was clean and tidy. We had a very spacious room with a view of the cathedral. All in all a great accommodation!

A dated hotel that needs some work. Attended a wedding at this hotel and the food they served can only be described as prison slop in fact the food served in prison is probably better.

English style hotel, clean and welcoming.
The kind staff thoughtful and really friendly.
The menu and the proposed cuisine are also excellent.
From the rooms or from the garden you can enjoy a splendid view of the Avon river.
In addition, boat trips on the river are organized on request.

Had a beautiful room with 4 poster bed overlooking cathedral. Great value considering the location. Adequate breakfast though they could only provide instant coffee towards end of service. Lady at reception is lovely and can't do enough. Would definitely stay again. Plus there is the lovely cat!Management could think about refreshing public areas in a few years time I think.

Curtious and helpful staff, comfortable rooms and plenty of cart parking. Pleasant 10 minute walk into Salisbury via the cathedral.

This is a hotel of a certain age & type and these places can sometimes be pretty mediocre but this was the opposite. Very friendly staff (mostly Hungarian) and an excellent breakfast. Good value and a convenient location whether you re a tourist (easy walk to the Cathedral etc) or on business (get in and out avoiding the rush hour jams plus lots of parking available.)

This is a charming, comfortable hotel with a welcoming atmosphere, and in a brilliant position overlooking watermeadows and the cathedral with the river flowing below the terrace. Our party enjoyed an excellent lunch, the rack of lamb especially good though they could not offer redcurrant jelly or mint sauce when we asked. The service was discreet and effective enough but a bit tired at the edges. I would go again if in the area.

We will always stay here now when visiting our daughter and grandchildren in Salisbury, and we have tried 4 now . Lovely views on the river, and rooms really spacious and a very large car park . Had a great cooked buffet breakfast every morning and only a 10 minute walk into the shopping centre and cathedral. Love this hotel.

One of receptionist was very rude, not value for money.

Splendid hotel, perched on the water's edge and easily accessible on foot from the cathedral. The garden at the back is so pleasantly calm and beautiful, everything invites you to rest and contemplate.
We enjoyed an excellent cream tea in the tent area at the back of the hotel, a real delight.

I only regret one thing: not being able to stay at this hotel to see the rooms. I hope to be able to stay in the Salisbury side again for this time to sleep there!

Special mention to the very pleasant and infinitely patient staff despite the sometimes noisy teenagers that we had taken there. Thanks a lot, it was a delight!

Had to stay here unexpectedly for a few days with my son and daughter in law and the guys there were so lovely and very accommodating to our needs. Will definitely stay again.

Beautiful room with a 4 poster bed and a great view.

Nice hotel even if a bit overpriced as is so often the case. The breakfast is okay, the rooms clean and well equipped.
Why you can so seldom find good mattresses in hotels is not clear to me from the prices.
There is plenty of parking space and a 15-minute walk to the Karhedrale and city center is hard to beat.

Staff were lovely, so convenient for the Cathedral and surprisingly lovely shopping experience. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic location! Garden that belongs to it is very nice and nice and beautiful locations and furniture and stuff. Shame about the price in terms of breakfast. Was on the expensive side. Operation I found not really very friendly.

I attended Grasmere House Hotel for a wedding reception and on attending I was shown through to the conservatory, a relatively large but cosy one with around 4 large round tables that seated 8 and was decorated beautifully. The view was stunning, of grounds and wild animals, with the sun beaming down which made a fantastic location for some wedding pictures for the bride and groom and their guests. The food served to us was "afternoon tea" with 3 different types of sandwiches, a range of cakes, scones, tea, coffee or any drink from the bar - that was seperate to the rest of the hotel. My gluten-free friend was accounted for and given a whole range of seperate gluten-free options for themself. The toilets are kept well maintained along with the rest of the cosy hotel.

Feel at home in this hotel. Excellent breakfast. Not recommended for dinner. But an A on hospitality and cosyness of the rooms.

The flowers in the garden are very beautiful. You can also see the Salisbury Cathedral from the garden.
The food is very delicious and the staff is kind.
