Grand hotel Malè Reviews

We recently stayed here for a business meet and greet, the service & food where above what we had expected and the views from our rooms of Torquay harbour at night were quite amazing.

We were transferred to the Grand as the Abbey sands weren't opening and from the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. Each and every member of staff were helpful kind and caring. One member of staff went above and beyond so thank u to Tracy (Bar) for making our stay so special. Thank u

A very nice short break at the Grand, our room had great views and was clean and well presented.
All staff we came in contact with were helpful, polite and pleased to see us.
The food was very good indeed especially the cooked breakfast.
Yes, some areas would benefit from a lick of paint but it seemed to me that work was underway in several places.
This is a nice hotel that is trying in the hardest of circumstances, when lockdown is over, give it a go.

My Mind is torn on this review!
Room was horrific in decor and heat!... However!!!! I thought this was the end of my stay here but the staff and food is a 5 star service and quality!! Never ever been won over after a bad experience until now.

When me and Peter Weston came to Torquay we always stayed here and we loved the place but unfortunately he has passed away and he always wanted to live down here I have some good memories in this hotel the meals was lovely and the pool was great and the spa was lovely and relaxing, we always loved sitting by the fire on the night and sitting in the lounge bar with great views of the sea thank you for the memories

This hotel has one of the best views in Torquay. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Location was very good as it is directly opposite the beach. It is also only about 15 very scenic minutes from the town centre. We went near the end of October but were lucky enough to still have amazing weather. The hotel is not the most modern but the cleanliness and views more than make up for this.

UPDATE: (3 STARS) After our bathroom ceiling with water stains started heavily leaking, we were upgraded to a one bed suite. Also, the front desk came and saw the condition of our room, then apologised and offered a discount. The new room was better cared for than our last room although still a little run down. We are much more comfortable in this room and the staff still are very lovely. We still question the 4 stars (compared to other 4 stars we stay at, we would get bottled water, more premium products, bathrobes in all rooms) but we are happy we stayed with the discount offered.

ORIGINAL: (2 STARS) To be transparent: we only arrived to the hotel 10 hours ago, but feel we need to share our experience.

The positives: The staff seem friendly and genuine.

That's it.

BEWARE.

The negatives: For a 4-star hotel and the cost of our room, we feel extorted. This may have been a 4-star at its height, but it is now a 3-stqr at best. In reading some of the reviews, there is a huge difference between "cute," "quaint," and "historic" vs "dated," "shabby," and "uncared for." While the website and Booking.com mention renovations, I believe this was only done to the rooms marketed on the website and on Booking.com. Our room was not representative of the photos AT ALL.



We are very disappointed as we feel deceived, and have already requested for our stay to be shortened and refunded.

This hotel needs major renovation.

We stayed at the hotel during Covid-19 and all precautions were taken at the hotel . The guests have to wear masks at the hotel lobby and had one way system in the lifts.



The breakfast was horrible and the mushrooms were dry and croissants were not fresh .

The hotel was next to the sea front with a good view from the bar and the swimming pool area .

Have stayed here before, good reliable friendly staff, big room overlooking the sea, restaurant exellent, everyone does their best to make you feel welcome.
