UPDATE: (3 STARS) After our bathroom ceiling with water stains started heavily leaking, we were upgraded to a one bed suite. Also, the front desk came and saw the condition of our room, then apologised and offered a discount. The new room was better cared for than our last room although still a little run down. We are much more comfortable in this room and the staff still are very lovely. We still question the 4 stars (compared to other 4 stars we stay at, we would get bottled water, more premium products, bathrobes in all rooms) but we are happy we stayed with the discount offered.
ORIGINAL: (2 STARS) To be transparent: we only arrived to the hotel 10 hours ago, but feel we need to share our experience.
The positives: The staff seem friendly and genuine.
That's it.
BEWARE.
The negatives: For a 4-star hotel and the cost of our room, we feel extorted. This may have been a 4-star at its height, but it is now a 3-stqr at best. In reading some of the reviews, there is a huge difference between "cute," "quaint," and "historic" vs "dated," "shabby," and "uncared for." While the website and Booking.com mention renovations, I believe this was only done to the rooms marketed on the website and on Booking.com. Our room was not representative of the photos AT ALL.
We are very disappointed as we feel deceived, and have already requested for our stay to be shortened and refunded.
