Great selection of wines. Food is decent but not great
Great wine list, good service and good food. I recommend Grand Cru for a nice evening out.
Sat at the bar for lunch, bartender was nice, but I was pretty disappointed with the duck crepe I ordered.
Felt cheated of duck meat, could have used some more salt on the whole dish, especially the zucchini strings which were lackluster.
Such a hidden gem! Grand Cru has a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and it's tucked back away from the busy road. The outdoor space is really pleasant. Staff is wonderful and has gone above and beyond to serve me anytime I've been there. They have a great happy hour. I take clients here all the time!
Food was amazing and Melvin gave us great service! Will deffinatly be returning!
Some of the food here could be better, but it is a good place for relaxing outside and enjoying a glass of wine
Location was surprising as it was tucked inside a hotel/business park area off Wilson Blvd. Food and service were exceptional.
had a lovely drink in the sun!Good value and good quality wine.
Our favorite restaurant in the Ballston neighborhood! Delicious food, wine, and an excellent date night spot.
Great food, excellent location, wonderful service, but they don't have yellow mustard for their burgers.. only spicy...
If I have to choose between Grand Cru and its Clarendon competitor, Screwtop, I will typically choose Screwtop. There isn't as much variety here and the food is only okay. That being said, they did have a lovely sparkling Shiraz that I tried the last time I was here. The atmosphere is more date night than a fun night out, so be prepared.
Was disappointed they didn't have frog legs on the menu... Not really a wine guy, either, but they've got a pretty nice selection of beers (not a liquor drinker, so couldn't tell you much there..). Food was really good! Wonderful happy hour selection. I felt like I had to order a glass of Cabernet to go with my wine-braised beef sliders lol... 5 stars.
Great service, good food, nice patio area for dining outside.
This place had a wonderful atmosphere, situated in a lovely, secluded area of Balston. One of their appetizers is dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped with prosciutto. Amazing, But the waitress was so smug when I asked about the dry wines.
I honestly loved their food and service, fantastic location nearby to my house. The workers are always friendly. Would recommend to others.
I was looking for a new place to check out and came to google, I had no idea what to expect before coming here.... didn't read the reviews just happen to be the closest spot for me. The place was actually very cool, quiet intimate but had a great vibe to it. Drinks were very well put together, def try the "one star Yelp review" it was actually very good.
Wines are fine. Cheese and charcuterie board is not worth the price and took 30min to arrive. Crab cakes, muscles and duck streudel were good. Server was *very* pushy on the upsells.
Really great food, nice atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. If you're more interested in the wine than a full meal there are several great appetizers to nibble on.
The good was cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly. It was our first time trying the restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Will definitely be back.
Delicious lunch crepe and soup. Comfortable atmosphere and nice beer selection as well.
What a gem in Arlington. The lunch special is awesome. The food is very good and the price is right. Quiet most times during lunch.
The menu is great, the food was really good..... but..... our waiter was terrible !
He didn t bring the menu of wine bottles even after I asked for, he was almost pushing us outside, didn t say goodbye to us but first thing he did was to check the amount of tips we let. Such a shame to have this kind of experience.
Delicious food and wine. Recommend sitting outside to enjoy the weather.
Nice place !
Great Food !
Great food, delightful staff, and a easy going setting
Wine flights were excellent choices. Very good decent quality choices. Highly recommended the lamb meatballs, very savory flavors and a mix of sweetness and freshness from the cilantro cream. Duck breast was cooked perfectly and well paired with the quinoa and sauce.
Inconspicuous location with some of the best food in the area. Have never eaten anything here I didn't like and the prices are reasonable.
Kudos to the Chef for a great Vegan plate accommodation.
Ok Happy Hour. Only 2 beers on special and 4 to 5 house wines for $5. Nice atmosphere.
I'd share my experience about this place last Sunday. I walked through the restaurant without making reservation for dinner by myself. They're welcoming people if you're last minute person like I am. As drinks, I got a passion mule that I loved. It tastes like sour and fresh. Then, my first starter was a cup of french onion soup. It could be better if they can serve bread on side rather than inside of soup. If I were not really so hungry, I'd feel so full after drinking soup. Also, my main food was smoked fish with green bean and corn which it was ok. Sauce on it didn't make taste impressive. They need to work on it. Service is good.
Great wine selection. Very large, and unexpected, indoor area. Patio is quite nice with a large shaded area away from busy Ballston.
The place offers a great range of fresh food. I like dining here. Employees are always super friendly, prices are fair and the spot is always well organised.
My first, but not my last, visit. Very happily fed. Wonderful service and a great, delicious lunch special.
Good coffee
Great desert!

Please review your cameras. There were two birthdays going on Saturday night. We were at the table with the balloons. At the end of the meal we noticed the other birthday party received a free dessert and got sung too whereas we received NOTHING. So one of the guests at our table asked the hostess for lady to come back and sing to at our table since we had gotten NOTHING but rudeness the whole night. The hostess came over and apologized for our rude waiter and the lady sung too us. Please check your cameras again. We had the older white gentlemen as a waiter. The other birthday party got a nice waiter and we got the mean one.
Ample outdoor seating in an extensive courtyard nestled in yhe heart of Ballston. Nice menu variety and wine selection. Service has typically been skilled and not invasive.
Very nice restaurant. Relaxing peaceful. Wonderful food, love all the wine choices. Prices where good the food outstanding. Service was excellent. Lots of interesting items. Loved the way the bottles of wine or done. Very knowledgeable staff. Would definitely go back.
Lots of good wines available by the glass. The Cheese fondue and short rib appetizers were great. We Sat in bar area and watched some college football. Great Saturday agternoon
Happy hour wine not worth drinking. Food was very mediocre. Had an assortment of items. The only thing worth recommending is the service, which was very good. None of the food items were good. Non happy hour wine was ok.
Bar was wiped with a stinking bacteria filled rag which lingered. Ordered the scallops and was surprised to get 4 with tomato sauce at $25. No side or soup or salad. Ended up getting food at hotel after.
Very disappointed; steak and frites included previously frozen fries and a tough piece of meat. This may pass for good French food in Arlington, but it was uninspired and pricey.
Service was excellent and very friendly. We had the ahi tuna and deviled eggs, both were excellent. The scallops were perfect and my prime fillet was cooked perfectly. Dessert was great. Good selection of wine. It's not the cheapest place, but it's certainly good food. Portions seemed appropriate.
Great place to grab drinks and food. Fun atmosphere and not too loud
1st time I can ever remember having a meal so bad I felt I had to leave a restaurant the food is Burt and over cooked
Went for lunch with a group of friends this week on Wednesday at 11:30. Our waiter was terrible! The soup of the day was butternut squash and he said there were only two left. So I ordered the cream of mushroom soup. He then brought out three soups of the day in shallow bowls. Obviously, it was thinned out to make three servings. He told our table he couldn t open the mushroom soup until these were gone. He did not remove large soup bowls before lunch was served. Folks were juggling plates as there was no room on the table. Later, I tried to pay cash $40 for my $33.74 lunch (including gratuity since it was a large group) and the waiter told our table that the restaurant doesn t accept cash??? They have NO change? Food was ok, but nothing to write home about.
Great chicken breast; atmosphere could be a bit warmer.
Food and atmosphere were great but service was terrible. Everything started off well enough: three different people came to my table, one brought wine, one asked what I'd like and I told him someone was bringing me wine, then another gentleman came by (looked like a manager) to ask if I had questions and then took my order. I finished my wine halfway through appetizers but nobody ever offered me more. I finished the appetizers and was looking to order an entree with more wine but I sat there for 15 minutes looking at the menu and nobody ever stopped by except for the busser (who was doing a wonderful job filling up water immediately). Then I began to look at all the different servers going by to make it obvious I'd been waiting a while but they just kept on passing by without a care. Finally, the same person lady who brought the wine finally asked if I needed anything else. I told her that I'd planned on ordering more wine, an entree, and dessert but I'd been waiting for 20 minutes after finishing the starters and nobody had been by so I'd just be leaving. Then someone else came over to apologize, it was the second person who had visited my table when I'd first arrived. So nobody knew who was supposed to be taking care of me. I left a brief comment card about this in my check. It was a very nice place and delicious food but that wasn't enough to take away the bad taste of poor service.
I had a party here and it was great. The food was great and the wine and other drinks great, great selection. Service is always very good here. I highly recommend.
Great selection of wines and the food is great. Best way to enjoy a good quality wine for a reasonable retail price. Service is great too
Wine by the glass list comprises mass market wines so opt for by the bottle or a cocktail. Food was good, could use more salt, pepper and flavors in entrees. Overall an ok place for after work or when you re staying nearby for a bite after arriving at your hotel.
Very nice place. It gets packed so call ahead. During the summer it is nice to sit outside and have a few glasses of wine. I would also recommend buying wine there. It has a better selection than anywhere else in Ballston.
Excellent French bistro. I've been there plenty of times, I love the rustic Mac & Cheese along with their soups. Definitely a good place to go on special occasions as it's pricey, but the quality makes up for it.
Had a GREAT birthday dinner with a lifelong friend. The staff is attentive and the wine recommendation was OUTSTANDING !
Grand Cru is a grand ode to classic French dining in Ballston.
I consider myself pretty acquainted with wines. Visiting Grand Cru the first time was a delightful experience. The food is nice and they have a pretty extensive amount of bottled wines available in their store. But here is where my view gets ugly. I have been to Grand Cru twice, and TWICE they have TRIPLED the charge on my credit card. When first paying, it looks normal, until 2-3 days after, I see three separate charges for the same amount. I'm fortunate to have this money in my account but to some who are struggling, this could be a huge deal as it takes several days for the charges to be reserved and the management doesn't seem to care about speeding this process along. It seems a little crooked to me. Be CAUTIOUS.
Also, as a side note, they still have yet to reach out to me regarding the last incident. I have called three times. I will NOT be back to Grand Cru.
Watch your wallets.
Food was delicious and service was great. Loved it.
Average food - the soup of the day (butternut squash) was okay and their macaroni and cheese was quite sad. Nice staff!
It was our first "restaurant" Thanksgiving and Grand Cru did not disappoint. The food was good, but the service was even better. We come here for drinks regularly but really appreciated this holiday dine-in experience.
Very nice venue, expansive wine selection. I went for drinks with a friend, and it seemed to take an excessively long time to get our wine whenever we asked for another. There seemed to be confusion over who was serving our table (which you think would be set?). So good wine, but expect a wait, and to have to remind your waiter or waitress....
Food and service were both top notch. I went fairly late, but never felt rushed. Suggestions were offered by the server based on her personal experience and customer popularity. The lamb shank was dynamite.
The food! We were highly impressed. I tried to talk my wife into coming back the next evening and almost succeeded but alas we will return 110% great find! Melvin our server won't also be returning without u working that night. Great food! Great drinks!! Great service!!!
Good but slightly pricey ($14.5 + tip) executive lunch
Fantastic food and great service. Everything was so delicious and our waiter could teach lessons on how to do that job. Loved it. Will definitely be back.
Consistently good food and good service. We also really enjoy their selection of wine flights.
Delicious food and very reasonably priced wine. A real find in Ballston.
Wow
What a great meal and service
THANK YOU FRANK- we really enjoyed our meal
Great fellowship and lots of laughs
The great service and food were a huge PLUS!
THANK YOU
Great, inexpensive happy hour. A little loud, but otherwise very good. Waitstaff were extremely nice and attentive.
Great wine selection and sommelier. Apptizers and dinner are fantastic. The patio atmosphere is just lovely.
Visited on Fri I believe. I've had nothing but great experiences here and will keep coming back. Bring your hunger - portions are filling. This place has many reviews for a reason.
Very good service. Had the "Executive Lunch" with French Onion soup, Duck Confit crepe, and dessert. Very tasty, though the crepe was a little too sweet.
The Happy Hour has a good vibe. Servers are great and the food is good. Love the atmosphere. My "go to" spot to link up with friends and family.
Great menu. Great food. Excellent selection of wine at a good value.
The French onion soup is my favorite and obvious as to why it s their signature. The wine selection is great and service was awesome . Expect a pricey date night .
Cool place to hang out with friends. Very near and walk-able to ballston metro. They have outdoor seating facility as well. Try out their veg salad. really good.
