The place has potential but even for a free gallery it was disappointing.

Very steep if you're from out of town. Beautiful building and some good art but not worth the $15 admission.
Visited yesterday. Struggled to identify pieces by referring to map book as a guide. At times we had no idea which floor we were on, or what we were looking at. Spent more time searching book, trying to match the art with the applicable diagram. Numbering the pieces would have been hugely helpful. We could have then easily identified the artist.
Lovely lovely place, very interesting and the staff were most informative
This was a really interesting experience. I recommend seeing the film if you have time.
Landmark in NP. We did not go inside. Entrance fee 15nzd. Free for NP residents.
Definitely worth a visit when you re in New Plymouth, but don t expect a huge gallery. The scale of Len Lye s ideas means that you can only fit a handful in a gallery this size. Still amazing to see though.
I thought it would be a lot more then turned out..ok not worth the entry fee though
Nice building but not my cup of tea regards the art ?
Lovely building, and fascinating artwork. Some of the sculptures are a bit loud for small children, but they have earmuffs to use.
Fantastic art museum which has active displays and great informative staff.
Stunning beautiful building. Very helpful staff; great film showing how Len created his works and how the trust carries on with his vision. But there were only 3 of his kinetic sculptures on display, and only one of those was big.
A must visit when in New Plymouth. You will be introduced to works you didn't even know you wanted to be introduced to! Take time to explore movies, moving art genius and installations. But dont look at the shop, because it is extremely tempting and your wallet is in danger. Please give this gem of a place a small donation. Its worth it.
Had a very informative and exciting journey into the world of Len lye and the art of others. Had a couple of fortunate timing had the opportunity to get a look at work that's not often out in a gallery space.
A bit expensive for non New Plymouth residents. but still worth a visit. One of the staff, a girl was really helpful and told us a lot about the exhibition.
Finally got to check out the inside of the 'aluminium roasting dish' building, an ok exhibition was on. However, the outside is definitely better than the inside. Cute little museum shop saved the visit!
I'm not the Art Gallery type - but this Len Lye was a very interesting person - it's worth a visit!
Nice architecture from the outside, and friendly staff... But the inside is pretty much devoid of anything - it's largely an empty huildinb which makes it feel like a large waste of rate-payer moneyb
An asset to the city. Will be even better when it's free entry
Was the first time I have ever been in there and I've got a New Plymouth now for just over 16 years they got some pretty good art in there and I didn't even see everything
$15 entry, it was ok, some confusion as to working out which artwork was which in the catalogue as none are labelled on the wall, this was done to maximize art space but a even a small number by each piece would have been useful
Unbelievably gorgeous building and interesting art!
amazing gallery, awesome exhibits and staff are very helpful!
Proud of New Plymouth, a place to be known as a city of art,
Modern art, not my favorite but the building is worth seeing
The outside is incredible and super cool. The effects of the mirros got us standing and taking pictures for a while. Great staff who are there to guide you through the amazing selections. Always great interactive activities for young kids to adults. A movie to watch and something to learn. All inside a truly beautiful building
Very disappointing and not worth the admission fee. Big building and sparse exhibits. Visited four years ago and enjoyed the visit. Bought a friend from Tasmania and regetted it. We travelled two and a half hours with great expectations. What a let down.
A beautiful building outside and inside. Wonderful exhibitions, a must see if you have a chance.
Awesome of course it is the gallery my sister francis upritchard credits for starting her childhood interest in sculpture!
Interesting place but the rotation of the art on display may disappoint, especially if hoping to see the iconic 'movement-sound' pieces, so check first. That said, there's plenty of interesting video-doco about the artist to reward your attendance. The building itself is a wonderful structure.
