I had my wedding at OBX, and we chose to have our reception dinner at Good Winds. I m really glad we decided to have everything there. The staff was super courteous, and made sure it felt like a special event for us. They even wrote congratulations on their welcome sign, took a group picture overlooking the sound, and helped us with our wedding cake.

The food was delicious; the hot mess seemed to be the popular choice, but the fresh fish and appetizers were also a hit. Tilefish bites were super tasty, and we decided to slurp down some oysters instead of a traditional toast.

I would highly recommend stopping here to get a bite if you re in the area. Super friendly, great atmosphere, and excellent food.

Came in with a party of 8, hostess greeted us and was friendly but then was gone for 30 minutes getting our table ready and waitressing. Plenty of seating open and not enough staff it seemed. Was looking forward to the food, we will try again next year.

Lots of fried food in the seafood basket. Lots of fries but a healthy amount of scallops. Cole slaw was more of the coastal variety and not the old south Cole slaw everyone loves. A bit pricey yet that is the norm for the OBX. Shares the premises with Kitty Hawk Kites.

My husband & I ate here this past week, it was awesome, everything from service to food. My husband ordered the Seafood Platter, it was cooked to perfection. I ordered my Ribeye well done and it was still so tender, I could cut it with a fork. The only thing I didn't care for were the practically raw green beans but I'm giving the place 5 stars. I be live the Waiter said his name was Adam, he had a great personality and was very accommodating. I highly recommend Good Winds

We had fabulous meals and the views were beautiful. Four of our party had fish tacos, one had the blackened tuna sandwich and one had the Good Winds burger. We also had sweet potato fries with honey butter. Delish!

Casual restaurant with live & loud music. Shells in both my crab cakes-not so appealing! Sides ok, nothing special. My husband got the blackened tuna, it was pretty good but sides weren't good he said. Gentleman beside us had shells in food as well. Pricey for mediocore food.

I can't comment on the food, since my husband and I were not given an option to eat here. We walked in at 7pm on a Monday evening, the last night of our vacation. We were told by the hostess "we are not seating anymore tables tonight" but can "try the bar" which was full. There were several open tables, many people waiting. We weren't even offered to be put on the waiting list. It seems they couldn't care less about our business.

My family (34 people in total) went to this restaurant on Friday. They did not have ice cream so I went down stairs to the gift shop to ask if there was anywhere in the plaza that I could buy some. There was an employee standing with an older gentleman who said there was a coffee shop at the end that has sweets but not ice cream. I explained that my child who has a feeding tube can't eat solids so it has to be ice cream. I went down to the coffee shop to see what they made smoothies with. The gentleman walks in and says that he is going to get me some ice cream. I said that he didn't have to do that. I went back upstairs to have dinner with my family and about 15 minutes later he walked in with a pint of ice cream. The owner of the restaurant left and went to another store to pick up ice cream for my little girl! I couldn't believe it. We will definitely be back next time we visit the Outer Banks. Between the 34 of us, we tried almost everything on the menu and everything was delicious!

My husband and ate at this place last night and it was mediocre. For a seafood and wine bar, it was definitely lacking on the wine bar ambiance. It was more of a bar with a nice view of the water but only if your outside. The food was just ok and definitely not worth the money we paid. The calamari was cooked well but was not seasoned at all. The mahi was ok but some of it was overcooked. Rice and broccoli are very bland. We were very disappointed overall.

We were staying at Rodanthe in June, 2020. As we often do, we were looking for a place to eat. When we go out, we normally spend over $200 as we take a rather large party.

This was just as the "second wave" of COVID had caused Dare county to tighten restrictions. Consequently, a sign was posted that all patrons must wear a mask if we could not practice social distancing.

As we waited, we noticed that there were a small number of tables, spaced far apart, and only a couple were occupied. The lady who greeted us informed us that we would still have to wear a mask just to walk to our table, even though we could be seated without coming within 6 feet of another table.

She went to get the table ready, and just before she finished, a short fellow came out and addressed us in a rather rude manner. He told us that we would NOT be seated in his establishment without a mask, in a very loud and unmannerly tone, creating a scene in front of the other patrons. They were staring at us as we stood there in disbelief.

We understood that the policy was not theirs, but we didn't deserve to be spoken to by that man that way. It was humiliating and embarrassing, and we turned and left without going to our table.

I guess he didn't want our money. I'll be sure to never give it to him in the future.

It all worked out for the best, however, because we ended up going to another establishment and enjoyed our dinner. We didn't have to wear a mask there, either.

UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW:

UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW:
The below posted review was written 2 months ago in reference to an order that was prepared incorrectly and cooked incorrectly. I contacted the restaurant immediately and was given no satisfaction except to bring the food back to the restaurant so they could examine it.

WELL I AM VERY HAPPY TO REPORT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. After speaking with Manager/Chef Tom, my entire opinion of the restaurant has changed. I realize mistakes happen. I am not that unforgiving but a friendly attitude, great customer service and a listening ear goes a long way.

I spoke with Chef Tom approximately 2 weeks ago and he offered to make this right. I had been hearing this for 6 weeks from previous management.....mind you at this point, it was not about the food or the money, it was about the lack of concern over a very unhappy customer and principle. But I kept in my head this is a different person and don't hold him accountable for everyone else's actions. Chef Tom CALLED ME on January 18th to make certain this issue had been resolved. I told him it had not. He assured me he would contact me in another week to check in.

I am very happy to report this issue has been put to rest. I know this may seem like a small thing and something that should not be sweated. However, you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything. There is no doubt in my mind that Chef Tom has the strong leadership qualities it takes to run a fine restaurant. He is kind and considerate and seems to take pride in what he does. For this reason alone, I would come back to Goodwinds. You will never see a more beautiful sunset in your life. The perfect view. Please visit!! All this positivity came from ONE PERSON. Never say I am just one person, I can't make a difference. You are and you can. Chef Tom is living proof.

THANK YOU TOM....it has been an absolute pleasure dealing with you!!!!!!

I understand the necessity of trying to earn dollar, but when you are charged an 18% gratuity AUTOMATICALLY on a to go order and it's wrong or incorrectly cooked then the staff has the audacity to ask that you bring the food back so they can check it. Bring your scrawny behind to me. $25.00 tip for NOTHING.

I visited with my family and we happened upon it during a walk. We went for lunch and wanted a place with good views and decent seafood. We were so pleasantly surprised! I got the house salad with tuna bites and the blackened tuna was well seasoned and cooked well. My mom got the Buffalo shrimp and the batter was great. My boyfriend got the fish tacos and it was another winner. So were the fries! My dad got the she crab soup and that s a must get. Sometimes they re too creamy and heavy but this one was really flavorful and balanced! We were surprised by the prices and quality and raved about the lunch for the rest of the day. Combine that with the views and you ve got yourself a great little spot. Yes, they re understaffed and a bit slow but they re doing the best they can. Grab a drink, take in the views, and enjoy the experience. And be nice to the waitstaff. :)

They re under-staffed, but I ordered take-out. It was ready within 30 minutes. Good food, but if you re looking for ambiance you ll be sacrificing service for it. There just aren t enough people to fill these shifts. Order take-out and eat it at your condo. The food is great.

It was a little difficult to find but we were so glad we took the time to find it. The view was amazing and the food was appropriately priced. And the cherry on top was the view while we ate. Perfect for a small family or a date night.

Terrible service. We went around 4:30 when it was not busy, however, we had to pick up our own beers from the bar after they sat there for 10 minutes because our server never brought them to us. The food was cooked very well, however, it was terribly cold as if it had sat in the kitchen for awhile before being brought back. We will not be going back, despite the delicious food, due to the poor service that we received.

great food and a great view. the deck is open to customers to go take a look at the sound, and our waiter was very friendly. took a while for the food to get out but that's most likely is because they were a smaller restaurant and my family had a party of eight.

Very good food and wonderful, friendly service. There is a beautiful terrace looking out over the sound in a very non-commercial part of the Outer Banks. We did take-out twice, and had dessert with my daughters while we waited--house made ice cream sandwiches. I am a vegetarian and had great options as did my picky girls. The meat eaters were quite pleased too.

Our experience at this restaurant was awesome! Our waitress, AMBER, was absolutely the best! The kitchen must also have a great cook, cuz the food was exceptional. And definitely can t leave out the fabulous chocolate martini that I had. The view can t get any better but wish we had been there a little bit earlier to see the sunset.

FYI - I guess Google re-sets the timestamp for edited reviews. I was at this place back in Sept. 2013.

My wife and I just finished eating here for dinner. Service is okay. My wife ordered the special of the night, a mahi-mahi fish fry, and I ordered popcorn shrimp. We were hoping for a good "last meal on the islands", but we were disappointed. Everything was deep-fried. I expected that with the popcorn shrimp, but not the fish fry. Presentation was odd as our meals were served in cafe-style plastic plates w/ white and red checkerboard paper. Since everything was deep fried, there was little taste and plenty of greasiness. Prices are pretty steep considering what we received.

The bar staff was excellent, we received drinks that weren't on their menu. Only drawback for me was the steak was a bit over cooked and the crab cake wasn't the best I've had. However the salads were the best tasting.

18% Gratuity added automatically for parties :o( . We had decent but semi slow service. Food was decent... not great. Prices were high for the quality of food. They are very good when it comes to kids meals. and our waitress was very very nice.
I had the Asian noodle bowl with shrimp. The shrimp were amazing.. the asian noodle bowl was more like a generic stirfry sauce on noodles in it. Had the Hush Puppies..they were made with cornmeal which is a little bit different but they were good.

So happy the new chef has put the Good back in Good Wind s again. We had a party of 6 and we couldn t have been more pleased with our meals. Excellent appetizers: Oysters, Blackened Cajun fish bites (Sheepshead Fish), Wings, Hushpuppies & Mozzarella Sticks. We appreciated the half priced appetizer specials. Dinners: Hamburger, Crabcakes, & Steamed Shrimp. All our dishes were plentiful and delicious. Meats and Seafood were top quality. Excellent salads and yummy homemade dressings. Prices were incredibly accommodating for such a nice restaurant. Beautiful views too. The best wait staff, kind and accommodating. We all agreed our favorite in the Tri-Villages for a sit down meal. Now if they will just bring back their incredible Sunday brunch with Crab Benedict; they can change their name to Great Winds

Food was seasoned well, but the vegetables were still raw the lamb and the tuna were both overcooked. The order of potatoes only came with three little chunks of potato. Our server could not answer questions about the menu. With prices as high as they were you would think they would at least have decent ketchup and they did not off-brand vinegar ketchup... get some Heinz!

The friendly staff and tasty dishes make for a lovely dining experience, with fair prices, fresh specials and a great custom cocktail list, highly recommended. The views of the sound outside, especially during a storm, is really something to take in.
