Good Winds Seafood & Wine Bar Review

Food was well-prepared and delicious. The fried fish dinner has enough fish to take home for lunch tomorrow!

It was just so-so. There was nothing outstanding about this place except for the views. I am usually generous with compliments, but not so much here .. Sorry

Since we were on vacation with our dog we needed a pet friendly place to eat but we never expected such a great restaurant! The staff was really nice and very attentive. The food was out of this world and you can't get a better view! This place was the best! Can't wait till next year! We'll definitely be back!

Wonderful view... Bridgette our server and the rest of the staff was absolutely wonderful. That said...it's the only restaurant I have been too sense reopening of Covid that the staff is NOT in masks... So, just know that depending on your risk tolerance for our situation over the next few years

This is a great restaurant. It has big windows overlooking the sound and is on the 2nd floor. It also has outdoor seating. Because of all that, Good Winds is one of the best places in Waves to watch the sunset.

The food my wife and I had was good. Plenty of options on the menu and several specials. Maybe a bit pricey but it's the Outer Banks and the portions were large.

We would definitely come back on our next vacation.

Great view of the sound. Speed of service was slow. Food is good not great. Mahi was over cooked. Crabtree cakes were good. A bit over priced for the whole experience..

Overall a pretty good experience. Definitely has great views with Kitty Hawk Kites right there. The food was good and the service wasn t bad for having 1 server onsite.

Great crab cakes with little fillers. Wonderful views of the Pamlico Sound . My margharita was watered down with ice cubes and not worth the 9-10 price.

First The Hostess was amazing. Went out of her way to help us find the place. We are tourists. Then she came up and greeted is at our take when we got there. The place was busy, with her doing extra work wiping menus. Fabulous! Service was great! Food out of this world. I was hesitant to order a steak on the island... Oh! Mouth watering food. Perfect steak! Veggies were Perfection. My GS had the fried fish with shrimp. Delicious! Very fresh, hand dipped. Fries and hush puppy's were spot on. Sweet and tender, not overcooked.

Waited 10 minutes to be seated, waited another 20 minutes before I have a drink. Service slow, food cold and Soggy. Never received coleslaw with two other orders. People seemed more worried about cleaning tables and wrapping silverware then serving patrons. Great view of the sunset only redeeming quality

We regularly visit Good Winds when visiting OBX, located in Rodanthe. Really good food, nice staff, and an awesome place to enjoy sunsets over the Pamlico Sound.

The 'Hot Mess' is great & the service is very good.

Was going to order a salad until I found out it was $20 if i added chicken to house salad. So I ordered the french dip. It came out as roast beef with the broth they cooked it in and some onion floating around in it. NOT AU JUS OR PRIME RIB! I ate A1 on it which I had to get myself because the bottle the waitress brought was empty. My water was empty (only original glass no refill) and I never got the extra lemon I asked for. I do Not recommend!

This place was good to eat. We ate here twice once inside and once outside. Had lunch and supper. For lunch I had the fish tacos. The fish that day was mahi mahi. My husband had the seafood bruschetta also very good. The she crab soup is good but was unavailable at lunch. Kid friendly. Handicapped accessible and free parking.

Great food and great customer service. The wife said better then Red Lobster and the Whaling Company back home. You guys have customers for life.

Excellent meal from start to finish! Excellent service- friendly abs professional. Shrimp was perfectly fried, tuna steak was thick and well prepared. Even the fries and sauces were delicious.

I am not one to give good or bad reviews but I feel I must express my opinion on our meals that cost $110. I had the surf and turf. The rib eye was thin enough to cut with a fork. Be sure and ask for lots of A1sauce. The waiter..... oh yes the waiter. Looked like a homeless man from the beach. When ask about GF items on the menus his reply I don t know I just take the orders . We had a person in our party that had allergies and must have dairy free and GF food. Needless to say what was GF item on the menu was soaked in butter and when ordered well done it came pink in the middle. Save your money and go somewhere where they appreciate the customer.

Waiter was not the most informative with the specials of the day. Had I known I would have ordered something else!

The breading on the see food was so much and heavy, it was hard to find what was inside. The portions are small and pricey for the quality they provide. Not coming back.

They where out of everything at 7:45 pm on father's Day and what food I dis see it didn't look good for the price

This place honestly was ok and prices aren't horrible if I wanted to go here again I probably would choose somewhere else and if you want to go the best thing is the hostess she is extremely nice and really a great person

Service is great. James is by far the best bartender on hatteras island. The manager is very personable and accommodating. The hostess is a bit intense and seems stressed. Was not impressed with any of the fried foods except the french fries. The Calamari, shrimp, hushpuppy were all over done. Expensive but if food quality was better, the view would be worth it. Highly recommend for drinks and sunset beauty.

Food was good, views were great, and service was acceptable. Nothing above and beyond what I would have expected.

I called ahead to verify there was no wait and make sure they had seating for my family of five. The man who answered said they had plenty of room and were slow. It took 15 min for them to take our order and then we waited for an hour before they came out and told us that they lost our order!! They hadn't even started to prepare our appetizer let alone our meals. Who knows how much longer would we have been waiting for them to start preparing the food and serve it. After all said and done we wasted nearly 2 hours of our day.

Don't waste your time like we did.

Just go somewhere else.

The restaurant has a wonderful view seafood nachos were good but they didn't have a lot of flavor.

A must stop. Wonderful food. Adeline was a super nice and very efficient hostess. She is an asset. She greets patrons and also cleans tables and helps move things along efficiently and wants everyone to have a wonderful evening. Our server Leah was so great. She is very friendly and nice and made our evening enjoyable. She made wonderful recommendations and we had the special which was the filet and shrimp and it was over-the-top delicious. We also have fish tacos yummy. We had three appetizers which were all great. The view and the service were spectacular. Will definitely go again. We highly recommend this restaurant we eat here yearly we are in The Outer Banks. It never disappoints. Thank you

Seating was a little slow but the food and service was amazing!

It has the best fish and chips I have ever tasted! The prices were good for the portions, which were huge. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Our server, Bridget, was wonderful! Polite and attentive without being in your face. I had the crab cake sandwich and it was fantastic. The remoulade was nice and spicy! My fiancee had the shrimp basket. The shrimp were delicious! The fries were AMAZING! Great views!

If it wasn't for our motel owner giving us information we never would have found the place.

One of those okay places. They have a good beer selection, the food was hIt and miss. Ended up with a excellent seafood platter, however steamed shrimp were overcooked and Nasty.

Excellent food, excellent service by our server Chelsea. Plenty of food, a great view and there was no wait at 5:00 for 18 of us.

Found this gem today and asked if they did to go orders as well always have our furbabies with us. They did food was awesome and the hot mess was way more than I could eat :) looked like really nice place with awesome views!

Good Winds has very welcoming staff and after meeting the manager, Drew, it makes sense. I will always come back. Thank you to Drew and his staff.

Place was okay. We chose this place cause of the beautiful view from the pictures shown for waterfront dining online. When asked if we could sit outside to eat we couldn t. Only inside. It was busy so we sat at the bar. Wings were good and peel and eat shrimp were ok. Bartender was super nice and just awesome so that s why we tipped him well and gave this place the stars it deserves.

Fast service and only 15 minutes away from out place. The view of the sound was impeccable as well!

It's only okay, average seafood. Not a lot of choices, and quite a large price tag for even simple crab cakes. My scallops were undercooked and had to go back. I will try something else next time, no reason to go back.

Totally expecting this place to be sub par but everything we had from seafood to beef was delicious and fresh. Would def go back again

Staff was friendly and service was good. The food was not. The shrimp I had was over cooked to the point where it was just warm flesh, no flavor left at all. Crab was the same way.

The wife and I stop here every time we visit the Outer Banks. The food is succulant and the "Catch of the Day" is as fresh as it gets. Staff is friendly and personable. Stunning sunsets on the Pamlico Sound!

One waitress running the entire place. Food was average. Not her fault, awful staffing, shouldn t even open the doors.

Staff was very RUDE especially the blonde with glasses. In her words to my daughter, she wasn t !ucking seating anybody until full party was present. There was 7 of our 15 party ready to be seated while the rest was shopping in the shop below on the first floor. We felt the food was over priced especially due to most of the staff on duty the evening of 7-17-2019.

So it's Friday night, the week after the island has been shut down down for two weeks. You would think these restaurants and tourist locations would want to come out swinging strongly, but think again.

My wife and I entered the restaurant and. Noticed it was quite busy, but that was expected with it being Friday night. We waited at the lobby for a half hour waiting for somebody to come up and greet us and let us know the status of our wait time and just to generally acknowledge that they see us. A greeter approached the front about 8 times where I stood patiently. I tried to get her attention but she just walked up for one second and left. After about a half hour of that we decided to go to the bar for a drink. This did not turn out to be any different as the Bartender behind the bar served drinks to everyone else besides us and once again she did not even acknowledge or say hi to us. After a half hour of this we decided to just leave having waisted and hour to an hour and a half waiting for some sort of service. We ate elsewhere where we were served promptly.

No I did not eat here, my brother had eaten there earlier and said the food was "OK". We would have went elsewhere first but we wanted to eat somewhere close to our beach home. But the fact that nobody acknowledged us after trying for an hour and a half is just plain unacceptable. This place will never get my business and I come here yearly. With this being a vacation spot with tons of restaurants, quality of food and MORE IMPORTANTLY Quality Of Service is important to make your business stand out and to draw people in.

BEWARE : if this place looks remotely busy you probably won't get any service or at the very minimum your service will be slow.

Such a shame..... just a little more dialogue and friendly staff just acknowledging us would have kept this review off of Google and other review sites..... even if we decided to leave like we did.

We went in the afternoon and we're greeted cordially. I am on a special diet. The server was most helpful in suggestions and accommodations for what I needed. We were both pleased with the quality of our choices.and attentiveness of our server.

It was a great meal , the service was very good, the price was good, and the restaurant is beautiful, with a great atmosphere, and a wonderful outlook over the water, I am going back again before we leave it s one of the best restaurants in the area, Lloyd Fox

The food and service here used to be so much better than it is now. Such a shame. The food isn't bad by any stretch, it's just not worth the price anymore. We loved going here every year. We we're there in early June which is technically the "off" season so mayby they turn it up during July and August. I hope so because this was THE place to eat in Waves for a few years running.

I paid $32 for a shrimp & scallop combo and got $30 worth of fries. Really? There was one other family with kids in the room, and that's all ever heard. This is a bottom of the barrel food place. Save your money.

Stop here for lunch with wife and kids. Was very slow since there was only about 10 customers only including us. The views of the sound was spectacular and food was fresh and delicious. The batter may have been a bit salty for my taste but other than that everything was great.

Very friendly staff! Fast service and food I would have to pay double for in NYC. My wife and I had dinner over looking the sound, what a wonderful view and wonderful food to go along with the view. This place is must do again next year. I just have to ask...How do you do it??

Family of five. There was something on the menu for everyone. Service was great. Staff was very friendly. Sea food was fresh. Deep fried food was not greasy. Great view from the second floor of the sound and kite boarding to keep you entertained.would definitely plan to go back again if in the area.
