I'm 34 now and was just thinking back on this place. Out of all the group homes I've been in, this was one I wish I could of stayed at. 21 years ago and they still hold a place in my heart.

I am not sure what goes on there now but 20 years ago I was was a troubled youth and sent here. They put you to work but nothing wrong with little work. Didn't care much for it then but when I look back now it was a good program. The staff was decent and so where the counselors. Gave me a step in the right direction. I walked out with a Gold Positive Release (Highest Release Possible) and a check in my hand for $100 (Only Aquired w/Gold Positive Release)..

I have worked as youth care for over 2 years and I think the work that is being done there is so important. Every staff there plays an important part and they are all about the boys treatment. I've seen so many amazing turn arounds in these kids.

The staff of the step ahead program have 21-22 year old kids that are babysitting 16-17 year old boys. These troubled teens need someone with life experience. That can teach them life skills. We never received any positive updates on our child. It was very hard to be able to see our child as we were 2.5 hours away. As parents we were promised an open door policy. As long as we called the staff the day before we were told initially it would be fine. Turns out it wasn't fine. So we missed visits.
Update: Our boy who was in the step ahead program was told to leave. They said April 22, 2017 would be his last day. They explained they had found him a place that would take him. I tried calling for over 3 hours. Not a single person answered the phone. I called the person in charge to ask where this child was. She told me that it was not a good time she would call me Monday and hung up. She has yet to call. (5/4/20217) Child has not been transferred to a facility. Child has been put in one of the homes of family members who assisted in getting him placed in the states custody in the first place. The case worker really didn't want to tell us his location... As discussed with them. He was supposed to be getting the mental help he needed that they couldn't provide. Pretty sure he isn't going to be going to any facility.
