Girls Write Now: Nurturing and Amplifying the Voices of Women and Gender-Expansive Writers
Girls Write Now is a non-profit organization that aims to empower young women and gender-expansive writers by providing them with mentorship, community, and opportunities to showcase their work. Founded in 1998, Girls Write Now has been at the forefront of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the literary world.
At Girls Write Now, we believe that every girl has a story to tell. Unfortunately, not all girls have access to the resources they need to develop their writing skills or share their stories with the world. That's where we come in. Our programs are designed to provide girls from underserved communities with the tools they need to become confident writers who can express themselves effectively.
Our flagship program is our Writing & Mentoring Program which pairs high school girls with professional women writers for one-on-one mentoring sessions throughout an academic year. During these sessions, mentees receive personalized feedback on their writing projects while also building meaningful relationships with their mentors.
In addition to our Writing & Mentoring Program, we offer a range of other programs including Digital Media Mentoring Program which focuses on digital storytelling; College Bound Program which helps seniors navigate college applications; CHAPTERS Reading Series which showcases mentee work; and more.
One of our core values at Girls Write Now is diversity. We recognize that there are many different voices within our community and we strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. We celebrate differences in race/ethnicity/national origin/culture/religion/class/gender identity/sexual orientation/disability status/age/experience/perspective as well as similarities across these identities.
Another important aspect of our work is amplifying the voices of young women and gender-expansive writers who have been historically marginalized or silenced by mainstream media outlets. Through partnerships with publishers such as Penguin Random House or events like "QWERTY Digital Exhibition," we provide opportunities for mentees' works published or showcased beyond GWN's platform so that they can reach wider audiences.
We also prioritize SEO optimization so that people searching for resources related to empowering young women through writing will find us easily online among other organizations doing similar work but not necessarily identical ones like ours (e.g., 826 National). By using relevant keywords such as "women empowerment," "writing mentorship," "diversity," etc., we aim not only rank higher on search engines but also attract potential supporters/donors/volunteers/partnerships who share similar values/goals as ours.
In conclusion, Girls Write Now is more than just a non-profit organization - it's a movement dedicated towards nurturing creativity among young women from diverse backgrounds while amplifying underrepresented voices through various platforms both online/offline. Join us today!
