They know what they are talking about. Not so tourist tasting room like in other vineries in Nappa. You can choose different type of wine instead of those in tasting card. Very reasonable prices for that kind of tasting. Our host- Zella Pelley- answered all of our questions- she knows a lot about wine.

Awesome experience in October 2019 with our host Ashley (typically works at another sister winery). She was knowledgeable and very friendly. We re-joined the wine club and then came back the next afternoon and were hosted by Kendall who was also amazing. Great staff and excellent wine.

Girard was a lovely place to spend the afternoon for a tasting. The gentleman behind the bar was kind and personable. The wines were delicious- especially the 2011 Zinfandel and the 2016 Petit Sirah. A great place to visit in Yountville!

My wife and I love visiting the Girard Tasting Room in Yountville. We are wine club members and enjoy all of the wines Girard makes. We especially like the Sauvignon Blanc and the Old Vine Zinfandel but Girard makes a wide variety of both red and white wines. The staff in the tasting room are wonderful and we are always treated more like friends than just customers. Mike, one of the senior staff members, is also a level two sommelier. We always learn something new and interesting from Mike. For instance yesterday Mike explained that the Mixed Blacks (a Rhone blend) comes from a particular 2 acre vineyard that is planted with a mixture of different grape varietals. The mix of the grapes from that vineyard is what makes the blend rather than taking grapes from vineyards of a single varietal to create the blend. This was a common practice in the past but is rare these days. I recommend Girard to anyone who enjoys great wines that are also reasonably priced. And you'll be welcomed and served by a friendly, knowledgable and professional staff.

1) The wines are hit or miss, but generally too expensive.

2) Tasting room is busy (packed) on weekends (which is the only time we can really go, despite being locals), often without even being able to even park in the parking lot.

3) Their club membership benefits are getting worse, worse, worse, to the point where it would not even be worth joining now:

(a) Not as many people allowed to do a free tasting. In the past, we have been able to do one for ourselves plus 2 guests, so it was a nice place to bring out of town visitors. Not anymore! Now it is limited to 2 people total.. so if you have a significant other with you, forget about bringing any other friends or family!

(b) They now LIMIT the number of free tastings you can get, to only 4 VISITS PER YEAR. This means that, if you want to pick up your wines,(for example, if you visit from the Bay Area), you can LITERALLY only taste at the times you pick up the 4 wine shipments per year -- can't do any additional visits!

To be honest, even though we are locals we only went 3-4 times over the course of a year... BUT it was nice to know that we COULD go if we wanted to, like if we had out of town guests. Now we can neither go whenever we want nor bring any guests with us...

(c) They told us we could taste for free at the other Vintage Wine Estates wineries, but when we attempted to do this (at Sonoma Coast Vineyards), they gave us a bunch of attitude and acted like that program was not valid, and kept saying there were "glitches in the computer system" and that that perk was "going to go away soon."

The main reason we became club members again was so that we could also try out some of the local wineries. After we got this sort of attitude from Sonoma Coast and Clos Pegase, we just stopped trying to taste at any other ones.

4) They have botched so many things with basic customer service and logistics it is unbelievable:

(a) they didn't update our address and phone number, and even after telling them both over email and in person at the tasting room, they continued to have our old contact information on file.

(b) They shipped one of our boxes/selections to us -- even though we elected "local pickup" because we live 13 minutes away, right here in Napa Valley. Their emails about the pickup deadline (which did not exist in the past) went straight to Spam folder, and they did not bother to even try to contact us over phone when we were never responding to pick up the shipment... they just charged us additional fee to ship it about 10 miles to our house. When I wrote to complain about this, they did nothing... no apology, no offer to waive the shipping fee or credit it for our next shipment.

5) Oh, and did I mention the tasting fee has gone up about 100% in the past few years?? (Yes, it used to be $15 for regular and $25 for limited flight... now it is $30 and $50! Doesn't get waived unless you spend something like $150 on wine...) So, now that we just canceled our club membership due to the numerous problems outline above... there's zero reason for us ever to return again!

From mountaintop Cabernet Sauvignon to valley floo...

From mountaintop Cabernet Sauvignon to valley floor Sauvignon Blanc wines that are authentically Napa. The tasting room is not in the vineyard like many others in Napa, but they wines are delightful! Good location on Washington Street near all the great restaurants.

The tasting room is open until 7, which was nice as many others in Napa closes between 4:30 and 5:30pm

If you are staying in Yountville, you should stop by for a tasting, even if you are not staying in Yountville, you should try to make this part of your Napa Valley visit. The staff was super friendly, we would return in a heartbeat!

We had an amazing, expedited tasting here at Girard right before our dinner reservation. We told our server we had about 40 minutes and he accepted our challenge. He paced each wine evenly while still allowing enough time for us to learn about the wine and enjoy the experience. Several wines we tasted were only available in the tasting room, which made our experience feel exclusive! Remember, tastings are free if you show military ID, which was a huge plus. I highly recommend Girard if you are in the area.

Very good wine at a nice price point. After two days in the Napa Region this was one of my favorites. Also, received some wine from them today and one bottle was cracked during shipment. I made one call to them and they are sending a replacement without question on Monday. Great service!! Happy Club Member!!

The wines were delicious, and the woman who was taking care of us (Sarah, I think) was absolutely delightful. Took really good care of us, gave my wife a little cheese plate because it was her birthday, was very kind to our dog, and very pleasant. Great place to spend some time.

Loved the tasting room in downtown Yountville. The wine was delicious and we had a great time with Dan as our tasting guide. He was very educated with wine, the history of the area, and suggestions for things to see, eat and do. With the fantastic wine, he greatly enhanced the wine tasting experience. When I go back, I ll be excited to taste some great wine with excellent hospitality.

After reading the reviews and expecting a great experience we were very disappointed. We tasted wine from the same glass (red and white) in very tiny portions. Also, the wine was not the best. It was was a waste of money and time. I would rather buy a bottle of wine and enjoy it at home.

We were looking for a reservation at a restaurant after our tasting and she called over to make a reservation for us. Highly recommend and ask for Sarah!

Looking forward to visiting again in the new facility. Was disappointed that our party of 6 didn t have tasting fees comped since we purchased over $400 of wine and we are club members at two of Girard s sister wineries. (Viansa and Clos Pegase)

About Girard Winery

Girard Winery: A Napa Valley Heritage

Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Girard Winery is a long-standing winery that has been producing some of the finest wines for over four decades. The winery reflects and respects the heritage of Napa Valley's terroir, which is evident in every bottle they produce. Girard Winery's appreciation for the land does not stop in the vineyards but also includes deep practices at their tasting room and winemaking facility.

The History of Girard Winery

Girard Winery was founded by Pat Roney in 1975 with a vision to create world-class wines that reflect the unique terroir of Napa Valley. The winery was named after his wife, Linda Girard Roney, who shared his passion for wine and supported him throughout his journey.

In 2000, Pat Roney sold Girard Winery to Ascentia Wine Estates, a company dedicated to producing premium wines from California's top wine regions. Under Ascentia Wine Estates' ownership, Girard Winery continued to thrive and expand its portfolio while maintaining its commitment to quality.

In 2011, Huneeus Vintners acquired Ascentia Wine Estates and became the new owner of Girard Winery. Huneeus Vintners is a family-owned company with deep roots in Napa Valley's wine industry. They share Pat Roney's vision for creating exceptional wines that showcase Napa Valley's unique terroir.

The Terroir of Napa Valley

Napa Valley is one of the most renowned wine regions globally known for producing some of the world's best Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The region has an ideal climate for growing grapes due to its warm days and cool nights influenced by Pacific Ocean breezes.

Girard Winery sources grapes from some of Napa Valley's most prestigious vineyards located on hillsides with well-draining soils that allow vines to produce high-quality fruit with concentrated flavors.

Winemaking Philosophy at Girard

At Girard Wineries' state-of-the-art facility located on Highway 29 in Calistoga, they use traditional techniques combined with modern technology to craft their award-winning wines carefully. Their team consists of experienced winemakers who are passionate about creating exceptional wines that reflect their terroirs' uniqueness.

They believe that great wine starts from great grapes; hence they source only premium quality grapes from select vineyards across California’s top appellations like Russian River valley Chardonay or Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon . They use minimal intervention during fermentation allowing natural yeasts present on grape skins do their job without adding any commercial yeast strains or enzymes which can alter flavor profiles significantly .

Their barrel aging program involves using French oak barrels sourced from different forests like Allier or Tronçais , which impart distinct flavors depending upon forest origin . They age each varietal separately before blending them together into final blends ensuring consistency year after year .

Wine Portfolio at Girad

Girad offers an extensive range of varietals ranging from classic Bordeaux-style blends like Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot , Petit Verdot , Malbec & Cabernet Franc ; Rhone-style Syrah & Grenache ; Italian Sangiovese & Pinot Grigio ; Spanish Tempranillo & Albariño ; Burgundian Chardonay & Pinot Noir among others .

Their flagship wine is Artistry -a blend made up primarily by cabernet sauvignon alongwith other bordeaux varietals-which consistently receives high ratings year after year . Other notable mentions include Petite Sirah (a rich full-bodied red), Chardonay (a crisp white)and Zinfandel (a spicy red).

Tasting Room Experience

Visitors can experience all these exquisite offerings firsthand at their tasting room located on Highway 29 just north Calistoga town center . The tasting room features stunning views overlooking Mount St Helena while offering visitors an opportunity taste through various flights showcasing different styles produced here including single-vineyard designate bottlings as well as library releases dating back several years .

Conclusion

In conclusion,Girad Wines represents everything you would expect out a long-standing nappa valley institution-exceptional quality, warm hospitality, and respect towards nature. The combination makes it one-of-a-kind destination worth visiting time-and-time again!
