Great place to see some excellent movies with a snack bar.
Great place to see some excellent movies with a snack bar.
Hard to find from the street they always have a lot of interesting documental movies. We been watching "Babushkas of Chornobyl"
Excellent venue with great movies. Enjoyed the various film festivals they have from time to time.
Fine films, often presented with talk-backs with directors afterwards. Comfortable seats, helpful box office staff, affordable memberships, nice snack bar.
Fantastic venue for movie nerds in the heart of town. The quality of the experience lives up to its namesake.
A great place in the middle of the Loop to catch interesting and unique films. Clean and spacious theaters with excellent projection and color; sound quality is not a problem at all. Lots of areas for post-viewing receptions or just waiting. The restrooms are quite tidy. I come annually for the Black Harvest Film Festival. Customer service with the ticket counter staff could improve quite a bit, though.
Smaller Film Center that shows more indie, classic, and foreign films (as well as documentaries). Very cozy and nice place with reasonable pricing for most showings. Saw a documentary film that included a Q&A with the Director afterwards. Two thumbs up!
Wow! This movie house was awesome. I will never look for another movie house again for sure. I never thought this place would be this great and comfortable. I really love this place! I will save their contact number for reservations in the near future. No hidden charges compare to other movie houses! Thumbs up to this place!
Art house movies, themed weekly showings, features select movies with after screening talks.
Saw a great French film here. Parking is a little bit of a pain and expensive near by, I would go with public transit next time. Great theatre experience.
Obviously the main appeal here is that they show movies that you aren't going to find at other theaters. Coming here was a great experience overall. The seats, although not flashy, were comfortable enough, and drinks were not particularly overpriced. The bartender and host were both corteous and professional, and it was extremely enjoyable viewing original art while in the lobby.
Great location/Venue, A different kind of movie experience :-)
First time there tonight, loved it and will be back.
The off beat films u want to see are here..
Good hard working Indy personal films..
No big budget commercial attention grabbing full of fluff moves here
This place is a treasure, provide an opportunity to see so many good films that we couldn't otherwise see. Well run and maintained too.
Polite staff, but terrible popcorn, and uncomfertable seats that you cant see over if another person is seated in front of you. Really wanted to like this place, great location, and interesting movies, but I know better places.
One of the best Film theaters in town, if not the country. A location that must be visited and experienced for any aficionados of great cinema. Highly recommended
Hands down one of the best special event spaces in Chicago. I hosted two events there for Social Media Week Chicago and the staff was great. The attendees were in love with the comfy seats, the great acoustics in the theater and overall vibe of the space.
Good movies -- independent films, foreign films, one-off screenings, 35mm -- friendly staff, laid-back atmosphere, decent selection of beers and wines at the concession stand -- plus popcorn, coffee, tea, and popcorn. Plus projectionists who know how to project films.
Great films you won't see anywhere else. Good concessions too.
The Siskel is a wonderful place to see films that have made significant impact in the world of film or that are not as widely shown. I've seen some wonderful older movies here that are hard to find. I know they recently completed renovations, and I'm excited to see it in it's new state.
As always, great experience. Looking forward to see other European movies this month.
Maybe I'm crazy, but when I am paying for a service, I expect people to be a lot friendlier to me. The staff here are not that wonderful. I only recommend going to this theater if you can't find another one in the city playing your movie. On the upside, at least they serve wine and beer to help you forget about the awful service you receive.
Very cool place, especially during summer festival season!
Crucially important institution showing historically important films you may miss or not become aware of otherwise. Three cheers!!!
Love this place. Fantastic selection of independent, documentary and foreign films. Anyone who likes film should be a member.
Great location and is constructed with the purpose of watching movies, I was there for the black Harvest Film Festival and had a wonderful group discussion or the panel of Summer Chicago's leading art patrons. I definitely plan to go back because they have quite a repertoire of film choices
One of the best, if not to the best, venue for foreign, independent, and documentary films.
Great place to showcase young artists work,We loved it. Our Grandaughters, Thesis Animation, from SAIC, was shown their and we were their to cheer her on.
If you love documentaries and independent film this is the place for you. Tickets are $12, great concession stand with beer and wine. They have a great Film Festival during the summer, the Black Harvest Film Fest.
No place to park I had to spend over 50 in parking..in AMC you get your ticket validated not here
Excellent theater space, always showing both new and old art house film's. A must visit location for film buffs
So fun and quaint. The seats are comfortable and the popcorn doesnt cost $37 for a small, I think it was $8 for a large box of pop corn. Crazy right?
I got a mocha for the movie for $4 and she made it on the spot and poured it into a bathtub sized to-go cup. It was awesome.
Theater quality was great and the movie line ups are very good.
This will be an ongoing date night for my wife and I.
This theater is run by the School of the Art Institute and is exactly what you would imagine from that institution. Lots of good contemporary, foreign, experimental, and classic films and documentaries. Some of the movies are overrated and the artist programs are hit of miss either very inspiring or pretentious and dull. Overall this is a reasonably priced small upscale theater.
Saw the excellent movie Hare Krishna. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. It is an amazing movie.
The place to see international and independent movies as well as critically acclaimed ones.
Great selection of movies that you won't see at the major theater chains. Fresh popcorn, candy, soda and beer available.
I love this theater. They always have the best art, independent, and foreign films. I'm always recommending it to friends.
Saw the Spock documentary For The Love Of Spock. His son skyped to the theater afterwords. Was a great experience. Staff was friendly. Everything worked.
They show films other than the action studio blockbusters. Gives us a good choice of viewing options
Small and intimate theater. I was here most recently to see the Toni Morrison documentary. It was lovely.
I love movies, it is an intimate place to watch movies and have a conversation about what you saw and how it made you feel. Sometimes there is a question and answer session with the creators.
I love this place! I say in on a discussion with a film maker and it was wonderful! Large enough yet intimate with great customer service. I will be looking into a membership!
theater's are small, but the seating is close. Comfy seats but not stadium seating. But you can still see the screen irregardless. Great off-the-map movies, documentaries, foreign films, and experimental films no one else would have except the Siskel. Not even Music box or Landmark. Upscale with reasonable prices, discounts if your a student.
I saw Fleabag here and the place is really nice. The bathrooms were clean, even with the crowds Fleabag brought, and the seats were decently comfortable. The staff was very friendly and although the sound system in the theater didn't really compare to a regular movie theater I will be looking out for more international movies to watch here!
Where is the 10-Star Rating option? Film Lovers Love Den...
I really enjoyed the inside! Interesting to have a theater on the second floor. I like the cafe style tables, and the theater itself have very comfortable seating. The only downside is that the movie screening rooms are on the smaller side...but I enjoy the variety in films offered here! A great spot to visit!!
This is one of the good theaters that show documentaries and movies that are meant to watch. This last time we came to see brimstone and glory and we won't have seen the documentary anywhere else. The place is welcoming. They have a cafeteria and chairs to relax before or after the movie. There are two screens and the chairs are comfortable. They also offer discounted parking near by. Will come and see more movies or documentaries.
Never got a chance to see a film here but the entrance view from the street caught my attention. Beautiful nostalgic sign and facade. Very historic looking.
Movies you typically can't see elsewhere. Modern, comfortable, good accoustics.
If you are looking for foreign or indie films, this is the place to go.
Always something good planning here when I'm in Chicago
Very nice theater showcasing foreign and independent films. Highly recommended to catch a good film and or documentary.
Decent place to catch a quality film. Prices of concessions are reasonable (i.e. non-exorbitant) and my screen, though small, was generally conducive to a pleasant viewing experience.
The best! If you're interested in film this is the place to go. Conveniently located on State Street and there are films of all sorts.
Not the most comfortable or spacious of theatres, but it does have a much better selection of films over the standard Hollywood fare.
So, happy to have found it. Is convenient located on Lake St. I will sure go back.
Great for lectures and screenings. Worth following on Facebook.
The Film Center is one of the few cinemas that I can give a 5-star rating. The only negative thing is its location which is only convenient for those immediately downtown or can easily hop on the Red Line. I don't hold this against the theater because as a first run independent cinema and repertory theater, this is one of the best out there. Besides the excellent weekly programming, they also curate some amazing film series as well as host touring series like the Miyazaki films. Prices are reasonable and the double feature deal is the way to go when offered. Also due to the types of films screened the Film Center attracts a crowd that respects film, i.e. you don't have lots of talkers or texters during a viewing. That's huge in my book.
