Best place for LGBTQQIA+-affirmative advocacy, therapy, and mental health services. The center however is open to serve all people. Affordable low-cost sliding scale fees. Great staff. Great clients/community-members. Very flexible and will work to meet your needs as best as possible.

I'm a pretty patient person and I've never felt the need to leave a bad review on anything before, but I've grown pretty tired after getting thrown under the bus 3 consecutive times by these people.
First, I called and scheduled an appointment with them to discuss counseling services. It took me about 2 hours to drive there, only to be greeted by the person at the front desk seeming confused, not knowing that I had an appointment. They brought out the person I was scheduled with who looked at me and was just like "Oh..." No explanation. They set me up to see someone else rather than who I was scheduled with. This person said they would email me with some info and gave me a date for when I would receive that email.
Nothing.
I emailed them wondering what was going on, and they told me that things may have gotten mixed up due to some of the interns leaving and having new ones coming in. Fair enough, I can understand that. After a little discussion we set up a date and time for a phone call to further discuss things.
Again, nothing.
This place is supposed to provide counseling services for LGBTQ+ folks. I never expected that such a place would make someone feel so hopeless in their journey. So at this point I've decided to not waste anymore of my time with this place.

2 stars because the people I met there were pretty nice, and my appointment didn't feel rushed despite the mix up. Otherwise, please get more organized and keep your word when you set up appointments.

This place was able to help me with my gender affirming surgery when my own health insurance didn't know how to. They are greatly underfunded, but are doing a fantastic job with what resources they do have.

The place does fill a significant need for the trans community of Sacramento. However, it's not the ideal place to get such services. The therapy is done by interns which are in my experience not that well trained and didn't ultimately help me in my core issues. Getting a proper experienced gender therapist is better. The hormone services don't include hormone testing and don't include close supervision and access to a doctor. I was unsatisfied with the hormone clinic and I eventually got access to Kaiser's TG services, which I felt was significantly better. Respite is a good place to go but only has one staff member, and doesn't always have friendly people to talk to. Certain smaller services have or haven't been helpful to me. People here work hard but I wish there was a higher standard of services and perhaps more professionalism.

It's a place where you can find community thru Respite & Groups. You can get an advocate. They'll help with changing your name, family law, and other things related to transitioning or getting basic needs met (like helping you find programs for housing & such.) If you want, there's also a program to get tested.

While many of their groups are specifically for transgendered individuals, they welcome All at Respite & to get counseling on a sliding scale (through an intern counseling program.) While some of the counselors are a bit green, it's a way to get services when money is Really Tight or when your insurance won't cover your therapy.

I was a volunteer for three months. Fell in love with the folks at respite and felt like I was truly making a difference. I didn't mind the staring and gossip going on behind my back. I soldiered on and put my best foot forward. I can't unsee or pretend what I saw didn't happen. The truth needs to be told. Ghc needs better leadership and it breaks my heart but this community deserves better. I wanted better for my new friends. Harm reduction Staff has some serious issues that need to be addressed: drinking alcohol and consumption of Marajuana edibles on the job. Ontop of that incredibly rude staff member in particular ALehandro would roll thier eyes at some of the clients unless you're a friend you're not gonna get much help from this particular staff member. So here's your wake up call! So unprofessional, childish, and unbelievable that this one gets away with tormenting and provoking anamosity when they should be helping people. These are difficult times and the community is just as fractured as the country and we really need better people at the forefront. Vote of no confidence.step Dwn Ben Hudson

Went here to get help in getting gender-affirming surgery but the person who was supposed to be helping me ghosted me for no reason. How are they gonna help people if they won't even call them back like they promised? I've gone here multiple times and I can tell you that you're much better off on your own than ever coming to this place.

By the way, there was a very unsanitary homeless man eating two Cup A Noodles with his hands right next to where the patients wait so if you do decide to go here, don't be surprised if it's gross.
