Contracted by my insurance company after a water leak and came up with a very thorough and comprehensive schedule of work to fix all the damage caused. So far have only completed around 50% - 60% of the work and have used every excuse under the sun to try to get out of completing the rest of the scheduled work. Most of the work completed to a poor standard and are now trying to bodge up and patch up work that has not been done properly in the first place. Despite not completing the work they have tried to claim 100% of the money from the insurance company for all of the scheduled work. One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with, avoid at all costs.
Avoid these cowboys. Insurance sent them and when they bothered to turn up, the work was substandard and poor. Worse still after a lengthy legal case and an independent surveyor it was discovered they were working without a drying certificate (in breach of all regulation), didn t know what they were doing and their work was unsafe and had done damage to my property. A 1300 pound job has taken two years to rectify and led to compensation from Axa to myself running into six figures. We hope the mess they have caused will be sorted in 2018. But it gets better... Their manager refused to return my keys and made a coded threat to me when I said I was reporting the firm to trading standards. Liars, cowboys and a disgrace. Gelder are a fantastic family run business, with the clients best intension's at heart. Their in-house values are filtered through from the management team, to the lads on site, ensuring all work carried out is of the highest standard. TOO MANY CHIEFS NOT ENOUGH INDIANS, THEY PAY THE STAFF PEANUTS AND THE TOP BOYS IN THE OFFICE GET SILLY MONEY FOR DOING NAFF ALL.
Very pricey and poor quality work would not use again, staff in the office aren't much Kop either, my advice for anyone is to stay away from these cowboys.
Gelder are not paying their bills on Time, owe me twenty thousand and don't bother returning our urgent demands for communication. I have just finished a job in Buxton and they are totally blanking our requests for payment. i'll keep you posted over the coming days as i have about other Main contractors. 7 days later after senior assurances still allowing incompetents to fail doing the right thing,everyone on holiday even all directors and can't overide their systems to pay ,heard it ALL before!!! Can't they come up with something original for a change? I wrote to both managing directors at their home addresses and neither has bothered to look into our situation. They probably have far too much money to bother helping the service people who help them achieve their profits.
We have been working with Gelder Group for over a year now and they have been a fantastic company to be associated with. Being a new company when we started doing work for them they were very helpful financially and all very approachable should we have any questions or queries. Highly Recommend.
I was struggling to get payments on time from the construction side of the group. I had been contacted by other sub contractors in the same boat, warning us against working for them. As a last resort I had to threaten to commence legal action to recover debt / statutory notice / winding up notice. This is the only thing that eventually got us paid. If you are going to work for these people get your money up front. Don't do any extras without getting an agreed cost in first. Make sure that every payment is made on time. Be warned. After posting this review we have been contacted by other contractors in the same position & we have advised them to take it legal, it looks to be the only way to deal with these people. We have now been contacted by a Gelder director, asking us to take down this review. We have been paid & so I agreed to take it down, but in reality I do not think that would be fair to other contractors if I took down the review. Contractors need to be pre warned about these guys, & that's not just Gelders, but all of these big companies that play with us SMEs because they think we don't have the know how, or the balls to take them legal. I have seen other SMEs go down the drain because they can't afford to fight these guys, or don't know what their rights are & how to fight them. Read The New Construction Act, its the law & if they don't stick to it make sure you do & act on it immediately. Pre warned is pre armed. Or easier still, don't work for a company that has such a bad record for not paying its contractors & you wont get screwed.

I had an underfloor leak in my bathroom and was contacted by Gelder on 11/4/18. They sent one of their plumber on 12/4/18 who found the leak very quickly and, with minimal damage, to the floor, repaired the leak very quickly. He was a very friendly and efficient worker and one thing that did impress me was the fact he phoned us twice on his journey to let us know he was delayed in traffic. I was extremely impressed with all aspects of my experience with this representative of Gelder.
I would like to compliment the team for their efficiency and excellent work recently undertaken at my home. Emma kept me fully informed of progress from first contact to completion of the works including arranging for contractors to arrive early to accommodate my work pattern. I am fully satisfied with the work undertaken and was extremely impressed with how they left the work area clean and tidy on completion. The work was also completed ahead of the agreed timescale. I feel that Gelder Group met their 'Can-do' attitude and delivered with the special 'Gelder Touch' Please pass on my thanks to the employees concerned. Useless company. Insurance company hired them for us and we've had nothing but problems with them. Avoid like the plague. Zero stars if I could.
Insurance arranged for them to survey my damaged induction hob. They point blank refused to come after 5pm or at the weekend. They only did business hours which is rubbish when you work full time. It all has to done at their convenience and I have to take a day holiday. Will not be using them.

Terrible company. My insurance company sent them and the whole process was an absolute shambles. It's been 5 months and still no where near starting any work, I have given up waiting for them to do anything. I was given completely the wrong information initially by the contractor, then sworn at repeatedly over the phone by a member of staff who also said she was fed up with having to look after the "cowboys" when I queried it. They never answer emails or phone calls,also promise call backs and never do. I have never heard as many excuses as to why someone hasn't called back. I've constantly had to get insurance company involved as they seemed to only respond to them. Stay well clear of this company if you value your sanity at all.
