I stumbled across GEAR:30 online looking for a very specific item. They had it in the color and size I wanted, at an amazing price to boot. Awesome, right? Here s where it gets even better. The item arrived in lightning speed and - ready for this? - included a personalized hand written note thanking me for my business. Not some canned message, thought actually went into what was written. It s the little things that impress me and stand out. I m impressed. The unexpected, kind note also made my day - bonus! Bought a climbing harness less then 24 hrs ago and needed to return it. Only tried it on in the store and never took it out of the package. Never was advised that it can't be returned. Lost me as a customer and I'll make sure to let others know not to shop here as well.
I had been shopping for some winter shoes and was having a hard time finding my size as I have a wide foot. The sales girl knew exactly what would fit me and matched me up with a great waterproof boot at the upper end of my price range. That was ok with me because the shoe fit like a glove just perfect. No wasted time and great customer service. Nice people.
2nd time ever being in the store. Had so many questions and Carmen was able to help us out more than we even knew we needed! Got almost all of our remaining supplies at Gear 30 and still made it out with money to spare. The rewards program is worth it top, if you're not a part of it, you're missing out.
Place was awesome. Great place to shop for outdoor gear. Everything from backpacking equipment, hiking, running, and biking. Something Ogden has been missing for a long time. They had some top name brand outdoor gear and a large selection. Used to have to drive to Salt Lake City for a store like this. Definitely could replace REI for the Ogden area. If I still lived in that area I would be back to get my outdoor gear.
It's close to our magnificent mountains, Ogden river, with excellent craftsmanship of many choices of sporting euipment, such as snowshoeing etc. For many different fun indoor and of course outdoor activities.
I am giving 3 stars here because I am mostly disappointed in their return policy. I first would like to mention that the selection is good, prices might be a little high but considering the brands it is somewhat understandable. I do not live in Ogden and after I bought a pair of shorts and tried to return them a less than 2 months later when I had made it back to town for the 1st time since I had purchases garment and wanted to return them in order to purchase something else I shopped for a while and was eventually told that because the 21 day return window had passed by they would not take them. People there are knowledgeable and helpful but policy needs to be revised if they are to compete with their competitors. Thank you
I always receive great customer service here. This is one of the few places in Ogden that sells Keens. It's rarely crowded and always well staffed so you can really take your time trying stuff on. I'm sure the $17 socks are a required up sell but I love those wool socks.
I have decided to edit a long winded and scathing review that I left a few days ago at the result of an encounter I had at this store, which left me disheartened. For the most part the staff at this location are attentive and friendly. The store does have very expensive and high end items. If there is something I know I need in this realm, I try to purchase it here because I know it supports a local business. However, I had an experience with an employee that left me bummed out. I recently read an article about how some shops like this are edging out people who are trying to get into new sports by having an elitist attitude, and failing to be ambassadors to these sports. I caught a whiff of that attitude from an employee here. I don't believe it is a common occurrence, and it may have been a result of negligence or a response to hearing me say something that has been heard a hundred times. ( I made a comment about the price of some items I was looking at, very expensive but also high end items). I have worked retail before, and I know that it can be frustrating having people ask the same stupid question, or making the same ridiculous comment that everyone else says. But I also believe that it is important to give friendly responses to things that customers say. Which i don't believe was the case in this matter. It is obvious that the employees who were working when I came in were very knowledgeable. The only recommendation that I would relay is for them to be ambassadors to the sports they represent, and remember that a customer may know nothing about the purpose and functionality of the gear.

This is a well-stocked store with a high selection of quality goods. It is a great local store, and perfect for quality backpacking gear. Don't look for bargains here. My issue is the staff. They are friendly, but sometimes too friendly. More than once I have felt like a pork roast in a piranha pit! They want to engage you in conversation, even after politely trying to bow out. I understand local stores need to make a profit. But the hard sell tactics have caused me to walk out empty- handed twice now. But if you don't mind tenacity, and need quality advice and gear, this is a great place to go.
I really like Gear 30! I went here looking for sunglasses and I wasn't disappointed by what they had available. An employee was very helpful but not pushy or annoying. They have a great selection of outdoor products and clothing. They have a lot of different hats there too. Great store!
