Wonderful building. With a sample of modern art inside. In addition to the original architecture of both the reading rooms and the entrances. The stairs, the spiders are majestic. A place that must be visited!

Beautiful library built at the time of Brazil Colonia. A pity not to be better preserved, as it is an invaluable heritage for this country. The guided tour is really cool, but not being able to get in without the tour is bad.

Wonderful. EXAMPLE to be followed by everyone; in conservation, care, zeal. I am thrilled just thinking about the good times lived with my great friend Dona Helena in our research. We sat on the beautiful staircase, waiting anxiously for the opening. Only when we were leaving they cast out ..... even the smell, wow .... I love the passion ... if I lived in Rio, live air of the National Library.

The Municipal library is very organized.
It is very worth knowing. You can also do research, it is necessary to register.
For the time being there are no exhibitions, as it has undergone a renovation, according to the attendants, soon it will have .. I really liked it.

I was disappointed !!! I went by bicycle at the National Library and when I got there I didn't have a bike rack or support to store the bike. It had motorbike and car parking. After a millionaire reform that lasted a long time, there was not the least attention to cyclists, or they forgot. I didn't even get into the library, it was very beautiful on the outside. I ask the library management to resolve this small issue, but it makes a big difference for tourists, residents and visitors.

Building with a charming architecture. Open for free visitation. Unfortunately we cannot access the collection because it has conservation rules. I went alone and had the pleasure of talking to the outsourced security Rachel who explained very well about various things in the Library that we cannot access, should work as a guide.

Beautiful place with.a sensational architecture.Large collection of books, manuscripts and newspapers. All very beautiful and organized with super caring people.
I just wish I could have contact with the books on shelves to handle what is only possible through a librarian to get the book at a time. But it is very worth going to know.

The place is beautiful, but you can not get in almost any section. It is almost all closed and you can only see from the outside. The experience inside is not the best. They could open more to the public for better use.

What an amazing place! To be able to visit one of the oldest libraries in Brazil, and see up close how reading influences our lives. It is worth the visit when you go to Rio de Janeiro, not to mention that the building is beautiful! We cannot forget that the library has in its collection very important books for the world history.

WORKING IN THE NATIONAL LIBRARY IS A DREAM, THAT BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC BUILDING, THAT LOVES ME, EVERY TIME I GET DOWN AND GO TO RIO DE JANEIRO, I AM FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL STRUCTURE, I NEVER BECOME TO KNOW MUCH MORE. , IMAGINING AS IT IS INSIDE, I WILL KNOW.

Wonderful experience! It is a journey in Brazilian publishing history. It is a pity, however, that the books are not open on Saturdays. The visit was worth it due, among other things, to the exhibition about the 500 years of the Protestant Reformation, however, I missed seeing the entire library.

Like others have said its a beautiful building, but unless you go at 2pm for a tour you can only walk around the lobby and to do that you have to take off your backpack and put it in a locker. Super odd behaviour!

I have to post my acknowledgment and praise to the prompt, friendly, attentive care of ISBN staff. I phoned four times and the orientation has always been very useful. I was impressed. Congratulations to the professionals and to those who coordinate them. That it serves as an example to other institutions, public and private.

One of the most interesting places in Rio de Janeiro. There are rare works and their disposition in the environment is done in a poetic way. The internal and external architecture is wonderful. A place that deserves to be visited and preserved.

The library is beautiful, but it has a lot of bureaucracy to enter and get to know, which makes it difficult for those who live in the city and would like to take a quick pass. Prefer guided tours.

They say that close on a schedule, but actually close properly before. Many sections without visitation and you can only see out. Should improve customer service and open a public library truth. A historical place without knowing and knowing. For those who visit, I recommend going patiently and not stressing about the service, especially from security guards.

BN has become a 'dead' library, a time-storied book store with no room for study and no children's space, with poorly trained staff and unprepared to deal with the public. A beautiful, tourist-only building that has lost its soul a long time ago.

Guided tour was interesting but there's simply too much street noise entering the main hall. And for evident reasons, the guide was not able to tell a lot in the different reading rooms.

It's under renovation but promises to look more beautiful than it already is! The National Library is amazing. The book collection is huge and there are guided tours several times a day. Makes great photos too!

Why 3 stars? Because I didn't find a cozy environment, worthy of a library. Everything was very closely monitored (just because of the importance of the titles present), but in itself it did not bring me the literary spirit. I felt like a thief in a place that should be the opposite! Did not like! Luther's exposure still does not add up to culture, I yoke.

The building is beautiful but most of the places were not open to visitors. We joined a free guided tour in English at 1400 which was a nice experience. The guide told us interesting stories about Brazil history and showed us some restricted areas too.

Another amazing library of Rio, the National Library of Brazil was constructed back in 1810 and has since become the largest library in Latin America and the 7th largest in the world. As a copyright library, publishers have been required to send over one copy of every title they've published since 1907, pushing the library s collection to over 9 million items, including a number of rare books and an extensive collection of over 21,500 photos all dating from before 1890.

Almost nothing to see here. A sign indicated there was a Leonardo exhibit but no one could tell us where it was. Maybe a guided tour could show you something worthwhile behind the do-not-enter doors, but its wrought iron staircase was the only thing worth seeing after walking in from the street.

The biggest library of Latin America is very impressive from outside! You can visit it for free, but actually inside you re only able to visit very few places, most of it is closed for visitors.
