We went for our anniversary. The service, food, and atmosphere were all awesome! I highly recommend this place.
The food here is quite good. The service is great.
Great food and a good variety of choices on the menu without being overwhelming with offerings. The wild game night is fun and interesting though my guess is the the "wild" game is actually farm raised exotics.
The atmosphere is nice and service excellent; even when the place is packedthe degrees do a good job keeping up with the guests.
Their points program is generous and definitely worth signing up for
I went here with a group of friends that were celebrating a birthday. The food and service were on point. I was not disappointed! If ever in the area you MUST visit!
Great atmosphere for a family dinner. You can dress up if you'd like our go in normal clothes. They have exotic specials throughout the month and decent happy hour specials. The fish was fantastic!
Approximately less than 70 hours ago, I went to the Freemason Abbey restaurant in Norfolk Virginia (near close distance proximity of the Macarthur center mall) after I had seen it featured in a free Virginia Beach magazine. The hostess and waiter handling my food orders were very cordial and I enjoyed the shecrab soup and the generous portion of sea fantasia pasta that I was able to save a portion of to have less than 18 hours ago (which still tasted good).
One of the few pricier places downtown that is worth every penny.
Absolutely delicious! Wonderful service, wonderful meal. She crab soup was sublime, fried green tomatoes were awesome! Will definitely be returning soon
Great menu, Great service and food is always fantastic
Food is always fantastic. Anything you pick on the menu is great. They also have an amazing lunch deal. They have the best she crab soup in town in my opinion.
Great food, small portion though. The bread i think in my opinion should be more flavorful like with some herbs. The lemonade drink should be a better quality bc it taste like from a cheap place.
Great place to dine. Reasonable pricing..awesome service.
Went for our Valentines dinner service was great food was delicious. Had seafood Fantasia, fried green tomatoes, and she crab soup will definitely go again.
Great service! Food was on point! Everyone in the party was impressed
Great service, great venue. The menu is surprisingly varied and everything I've had has been excellent. A real gem of downtown Norfolk!
Was a great gem. Nice staff, great way they kept the structure of the old church. Food was good too.
So I've eaten at Freemason Abbey's 3 times so far and this is my worst visit. The customer service and waiting times even though the place was slammed was very good. The she crab soup I ordered was absolutely delicious as was the southern hospitality I ordered. The problem came when I got my entree which I ordered a medium well steak and it came with Gouda Mac and cheese and bressel sprouts. The bressel sprouts we're completely burnt and the steaks outside was charred. When I order medium well I expect the steak to be the same softness all the way through and instead it looks like the outside was seared. The Mac and cheese was delicious though. Overall it was an okay experience but I hope Freemason Abbey's takes this review positively and changes the way they cook steaks but I know next time as a just in case I'll be ordering a medium rare.
Warm atmosphere, excellent service & outstanding food; best she-crab soup around!
The service was great and the food was awesome. The atmosphere was excellent!
The food was delicious and we went during an exotic food night.
Best restaurant in Norfolk, every item i tasted is so good . Crab dip, seafood fantasia, basil pesto shrimp pasta , & even the bread was so good . Will surely visit once more.
Customer service was awesome.
This is really without a doubt the best food ive had... Very beautiful place, great service, wonderful dessert!!!
My Dad's favorite place in Norfolk. I like it too. Food was great. Decent beer list. Building is an amazing historic church.
Food was great. Atmosphere was fun. Good value for the price.
The food and customer service was wonderful. I gave 4 stars because I felt the food was a little expensive for what it was.
Today the she can soup was missing something. It normally taste better.
Great food and drinks. Crab soup and crab cakes very tasty. Atmosphere is cool with the history of a church building.
Food was wonderful service was friendly! Such a cool piece of history!!
Excellent menu choices, great service, friendly hostess. Definitely a return often place on my list.
We love Freemason Abbey! The ambience is amazing, set inside a former church! The food and service are just great! First of all, I love that they take reservations, and they have a free parking lot of their own next to the building. They warmly greet you at the door, and if you have issues with stairs, they will place you on the first floor, but there is a loft area. I love their Spinach Salad and their Steak Caprese, so I made a meal of two appetizers; my husband liked his broiled flounder with rice and asparagus, and their rolls are delicious. Our server was Hays, and he was just spot on, checking on us often and keeping us in drinks, and giving us time. They have a frequent diner club; so if you give them your phone number, you get points which translate into gift certificates. This place made us feel special, and was a perfect place to meet before goign to a performance at Chrysler Hall.
We loved this place so much, we bought the commemorative glasses and signed up for their breakfast club (an online email newsleetter)
Great food...bloody mary's that are out of this world!
Very tasty restaurant with antique interiors. Very recommended.
Delicious and perfect. A definite mist when I am in Norfolk
Had the 3 course special. Outstanding Food. Beautiful space. I'd say it was a "sacred" experience except it was also.perfectly unpretentious and relaxed.
Great meal (during Restaurant Week) to include dessert. Quiet and great ambience!!!
Nice size restaurant and great food and deserts friendly staff
Love the way they kept the historical structure and used it effectively. Great wait staff and perfect selection of food on the menu. 5/5 Good job
The she crab soup is to die for. I got a fried green tomato sandwich w/red pepper aioli, goat cheese crumbles and can't remember the marmalade. Very good
This place was delicious, from the drinks to the salads and beyond! I wish I had taken a chance coming here before, the food is that good. It is a spot that I will be dinning at again in the very near future. Also the service was fast and very pleasant, the food was presented wonderfully. The atmosphere is very unique with the refinished church. I think my favorite thing to eat was the salad, I selected based on the servers suggestion and was not disappointed.
the crab soup is so refreshing the crew that is very nice attentive with their customer are pretty impressive.. highly recommended..
Amazing place to sit down and catch some pokemon, especially if you use a lure module (this is a pokestop). I caught a venusaur sitting at the bar, and a ghastly sitting in a corner booth. The food is great too.
First time there for lunch. My sandwich was incredible.
Unusual, beautiful place with great meal, reasonable prices, good service. Amazing "She crab soup", crab dipping, and my favorite crab cakes. Must be visited.
Never had a bad meal here. French onion sp is authentic, and the prime rib is top notch.
A fine restaurant in an old church. We were with a group of 6 friends all together and made reservations. Arrived on time but still made to wait 20 minutes. Food was good, a little bland (not salt wise, but spices). The waitress was ok, kept it all straight. I will definitely try it again.
The positives were 1. The she crab soup: thick, creamy, and very well seasoned with generous lumps of crabmeat and 2. The atmosphere: a cool repurposed church-like building with elegant fixtures. However, we had a pretty dispassionate waiter who made us feel a little bit like an inconvenience, and my pasta dish was over-salted and not a great flavor. I'd maybe go back only to get the soup to go.
Very clean, amazing food. We went for brunch two weeks in a row, took our parents and family the second time. The shrimp and grits are amazing.
Wonderful atmosphere and great food! The she crab soup is to die for and the calamari is some of the freshest I've had in the area.
The location and building are a charm. The food not so much. The crab soup was mediocre and the seafood platter was ok. There's better options in the area.
Good menu service and food. Crab soup is declious and desserts are great.
Seafood was great. Service was really great. Easy parking.
Everything about this place was great, from the greeting upon entry to the farewell when leaving. The ambiance is very nice. Now let's get to the food. The she crab soup is amazing. I went with the broiled seafood combination platter. It is very filling and you will not be disappointed. They also have some nice cocktails and a nice variety of non alcoholic beverages. Their dessert menu was good but I was too stuffed to indulge. This place is a must when in the area.
Great food! Attentive service. And superb atmosphere. Even for lunch this place is awesome!
I was a little disappointed to be honest. The place reminded me of England and unfortunately so did the food.
Attentative server and delicious she-crab soup and crab cake.
Great place for a delicious meal near the Chrysler Museum. Try their fruit infused teas for a refreshing drink; mine was blood orange and my husband s was raspberry; both were amazing!
Great food( a tad over priced), low lighting, tight bar area, good service
My wife and I enjoying coming here when we are in the area. The ambiance is delightful, historic, and stunning. The service is great and the food is better. She crab soup is amazing. They have an excellent brunch menu on Sundays with cheap traditional brunch cocktails. I feel this is one of the best places to eat in Norfolk and if you happen to be in the area definitely check it out!
Wow excellent meal! Will be back. Wait staff was on point too.
I always thought that the restaurant is a great place to go to. My daughter took me to celebrate her Mother finished college.
Their food with the seafood and flounder was fantastic!
I WISH I could give 10 stars. Our server was so much fun! I had the fried green tomatoe sandwich, it was the best thing I've EVER eaten!
These guys get everything right. Food, service, atmosphere. Take out or sit down, this place is at the top of my list for when I have some spare money for a night out.
Once you get past the fact that you re eating in an old church, you realize you re just eating okay food. We ve been here for lunch several times, really wanting to like it, but we always left a bit disappointed. It seems like they ve started to phone it in on their food quality.
Enjoyable restaurant in a beautiful building. The wait staff is kind and fast (though that could also be because they only have half capacity). The seafood is well prepared, but their house version of an old fashioned is a bit below par.
A 147 year old church turned into a tavern! Very cool vibe inside with a nice ambiance. Our server Nicole was amazing; very friendly and attentive. My partner and I had the sandwich of the day and she crab soup/salad. The sandwich was a twist to the classic Philly cheese steak and it was delicious! Lunch was served super quick, so perfect for daytime lunches. Overall wonderful experience and we are excited to come back and try the 3course dinner meal for only $30.
This is one of my favorite places to bring a date, romantic or otherwise. The history alone makes it worth the trip.
Great food great service! Shecrab soup is the best in VA!!!
