Freedom Ride: Enriching Lives Through Therapeutic Horseback Riding
Freedom Ride is a non-profit 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization that believes in the power of therapeutic horseback riding to enrich the lives and experiences of children and adults with disabilities in the Central Florida area. Founded on the conviction that physical limitations should not hold anyone back, Freedom Ride is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where riders can develop their physical, emotional, and social skills while building meaningful connections with horses and volunteers.
At Freedom Ride, we understand that living with a disability can be challenging both physically and emotionally. That's why we offer therapeutic horseback riding as an effective way to improve balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, confidence, self-esteem, communication skills and more. Our experienced instructors work closely with each rider to tailor their lessons according to their individual needs and goals. Whether it's learning how to ride independently or participating in fun activities like horse grooming or trail rides - our riders always have something new to look forward to.
Our program is open for individuals of all ages who have disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome autism spectrum disorder (ASD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), multiple sclerosis (MS), spinal cord injuries (SCI), visual impairments or other conditions that affect mobility or cognitive function. We also welcome veterans who are seeking alternative therapies for PTSD or other service-related injuries.
In addition to therapeutic riding lessons offered throughout the year at our facility located in Orlando FL., Freedom Ride also provides outreach programs for schools and organizations serving individuals with disabilities. These programs include equine-assisted learning sessions where participants learn valuable life skills such as teamwork problem-solving communication leadership responsibility empathy trust-building self-awareness through interactions with horses.
At Freedom Ride we believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to experience the joy of horsemanship regardless of their abilities financial situation race gender religion sexual orientation etc.. That's why we offer scholarships and financial assistance to those who need it most. We also rely on the generosity of our donors and volunteers to keep our program running smoothly.
