So far I've only been to the Southern Rep for the semi-weekly drag show 'Mondays are a Drag'. As a result, I've only been in the front lobby/cabaret lounge area. What I can say is that the restoration/repurposing of the space was beautifully done. The bar is spacious and has a modest but thoughtful selection. Hopefully, it gets increasingly utilized as a community space.
Also, do yourself a favor and go see 'Mondays are a Drag'.
Great people here. The shows and everything they do is first rate and they put their hearts and should into everything they do.
Just saw Flowers for Halie - BEAUTIFUL! Stunning vocal performance by Troi Bechet, with wonderful work from the supporting cast. Another solid show from Southern Rep. Such a great addition to the Bayou Rd neighborhood - love its welcoming vibe. Plus check out the murals inside that tell the fascinating story of the church.
Great Show, Beautiful space, and friendly everybody!!!
Gentrification made y all harass the people at the community book store. Shame on you.
LOVED the spot, the Artist (Mahalia Jackson review) was tired. Overall good show.
Consistently high quality theater in a beautiful new space!
Smart management and Board that looks to the future of sophisticated productions germain to N'awlns specifically; Not to mention the Broadway,Off-Broadway,classics, and more modern productions.
We went to see August ,Osage County production the other night. It was FANTASTIC!! The cast was excellent!! Very professional. The new place that they hold their plays was very comfortable . No matter where u sat you could see easily . The seating was graduated up so everyone had great sightlines. We were really impressed with the actors and actresses . The place had music after if you wanted a drink and listen to a duo playing . The head of the theatre , Ms. Hayes has done a great job!! ( and i dont even know her )Very nice theatre for our city.
Wonderful local theater organization, many performance options. I look forward every month to Debauchery, a Nawlins-based soap opera, totally lives up to its name!
They need more parking or ask the persons work hi ng there not to use the private lot on theater nights. But the new space is awesome and coming along nicely
Care for the creatives brunch talk was super supportive and inspiring space.
A newly renovated church that is welcome to all that love art. Highly recommend you catch a show if interested in stage plays or a musical performance.
Saw Matt Owens and 2 of his fellow comedians there! It was up front at the small entrance room. I am definitely going to return to see a play in their big theater in the back. Haven't seen it yet, but have heard good things about it!
So Uniquely. We watched the Reverend Billy and Stop Shopping show. So awesome!
Nice, and charming theater that puts on high quality shows. Definitely worth checking out.
The play that I saw was very well done. It was well written and funny. There were a few stumbles by the actors but overall a good showing. It was a small theater, but cozy. They did a lot with what they had. The scene changes were particulary amusing.
There were also some concessions available. My mother attended with me and we both had a very enjoyable time. I look forward to the new theater that they are building.
So, it's hard to give this space a rating. Cause from what it looks like it's an open space. Sounds like shows have to provide their own seats. One thing is concerting is that I didn't see any Black crew, bartenders etc. I did see one Black woman collecting money. It's quite tiring to be in a Black city where the Black folks are not working in every space. I will not talk about the show in this review as it has little to do with the space.
Stopped by to check on getting some food. That team was super friendly &a great service to the community indeed. Thanks!!!
The new home for SRT will be the premier multi purpose educational and entertainment venue in the region.
Wow. Just saw Mandatory Merriment the musical there and it was astonishingly good. We laughed, we cried... we wished it would never end.
Excellent theater in a wonderful, refurbished church building. My first year with Southern Rep and I am so glad I became a member. All the productions I have seen were top notch.
Its a place, I would take or suggest Family and Friends.
Fantastic theater with cozy seating around the Lagniappe stage <3 also I loved the mural above the Sanctuary Bar. I had the pleasure of preforming here durring Infringe Fest and it was an honor and a pleasure to act at such an amazing venue for our show. Big thanks to all the kind people that keep that place running.
Side note for bonus points: if you are the kind of person who has a heart not frozen over by life's disappointments, there is the most amazing black cat that hangs out who is possibly the sweetest kitty I ever met. You should give him some pets because he deserves it.
Hey Everyone! A Happy Ending story...
I went to see a Southern Rep comedy, this past Saturday. Enjoyed every second of it. Sunday morning I realized my wallet w/id and CC's was missing. I'm going out of town tomorrow and had no time to replace anything and was spinning. I spent a good chunk of my day, yesterday, calling around to friends, who I had been with, asking them to check their cars and homes. Nothing. Then late yesterday, I got a call from my biz corp HQ; the folks at Southern Rep had found my wallet! YAY! My wallet had none of my contact info in it, so the Southern Rep folks researched me online and found my corp. phone # to leave the message they had it. Amazingly KIND!!!!! Cheers to Southern Rep for not only gracing our community with amazing talent and entertainment, but also for being the types of people we all admire!!!!!!!!! Thank you, Thank you! #Southernrep #Best ever! #heroes
Great shows and programs, open bar, and a friendly staff, I love it here!
Saw Azul last week, and The Wolves a couple of months ago. Excellent performances. Still new, but well put together with a nice full bar.
An old church that has been converted into a theater. An incredible space with wonderful sound and atmosphere.
My wife and I have been season subscribers for the past 5 years. We have attended almost all productions during this time, and we have never been disappointed. The high quality and professionalism of all involved are truly exceptional. We love the now permanent home in a thoughtfully repurposed church on Bayou Road...the new space is lovely and so inviting! Cheers!
Cool place to check out. It used to be a catholic church but now it's made to a theater. My son and I went here for an art festival and it was great. Everything was free and kid friendly.
