Having heard how amazing this place was we drove down from Swindon for what we hoped would be a lovely night out. We weren t disappointed. The owners were really welcoming and the staff super efficient. The food was perfectly cooked, fresh, vibrant and interesting. Even though it s an hour and half drive for us we would definitely go back.
Absolutely superb. Simple menu, but really interesting dishes without being fussy. Had the soup (with an amazing truffle rarebit) and the beef for main. Cooked perfectly. Very reasonably priced for the quality. Wine was great too and the service incredibly attentive. Will definitely return
Wonderful ! Exciting food. Lovely service . Really special and worth the drive to Somerton !
Fantastic food.....crab starter was incredible Great service too.....
A surprise date night with hubby. What a delight. From the moment we walked through the elegant front door with the lion's head knocker we were not disappointed. The staff were attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The decor is modern and tasteful. Now the best part, the food. Superb!! The flavours are an absolute treat for your senses, chefs, thank you we can't wait to revisit!!! Ps don't forget to treat yourself to a donught and coffee from the bakery at the weekend either.......delicious!!
I went for a Sunday roast with my sisters. What a great restaurant this is. Top quality food and drink in a lovely environment. Will definitely visit again as soon as possible.
The food is exceptional, seriously seriously good. The service is friendly and warm, and the drinks list is fantastic, particularly as you can drink wines from the onsite wine shop at a small corkage fee. Somerton is very lucky to have 28 Market Place as it offers something lacking in the area. I ve been twice since opening and can see it becoming a habit.
i moved to the area a year and a half ago and was thrilled to see this was opening - having visited I was not disappointed. The food is outstanding, clearly a lot of thought has gone into the menu to make it accessible yet interesting, and for the quality, the price is totally reasonable. The Bakery is also a great addition - perfect place to stop in for a coffee and check some emails. Anyway, I m now in the process of dragging as many friends as possible Along for dinner. Great stuff
Great food, wonderful service. The staff are attentive without being intrusive. We had a lovely evening and will definitely be back
It all looks very nice but as an averaged waged local the prices seem vast. I will probably eat elsewhere.
We are addicted to the ice creams. They are such a wonderful quality. Yum.
Fabulous Sunday lunch! We visited on Sunday 2 February and enjoyed one of the best Sunday lunches I have experienced. The aged beef with stuffed beef Yorkshire Pudding was wonderful. The wine list was extensive and the Malbec we chose was well-balanced and smooth. Other highlights are the bread, which was replenished without asking and the choice of starters - the Cauliflower mushroom and celeriac with truffled cream was to die for. The portions are generous (we were given a doggy box to take our delicious roast potatoes home) and represents great value for money. Truly first rate.
An elegant and buzzing modern eatery with a charming back room filled with light, plants and sounds of the surrounding kitchen. Professional and capable staff. The food was brilliant. We started with a perfectly baked duck egg tart, miso More
Everything was excellent. Gorgeous interior, friendly staff, delicious food, strong drink selection. One of the best meals in Somerset.
Pleasant surroundings, friendly service and thoughtful, tasty food in this relatively new restaurant in Somerton. They were kind enough to accommodate six of us despite the website suggesting a maximum of five to a table.
Dining at 28 market place was an absolute pleasure. Yes, it costs a little more than your average Somerset restaurant, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The food was divine, the service excellent and the setting infinitely relaxing. I couldn t recommend trying this place out enough, well worth your time and money!
With all the hype and anticipation of this new restaurant coming to Somerton I can honestly say that I had high hopes and expectations, which would make me a challenging customer and well...I was blown away! I took 3 friends with me on the second night of opening and it felt like we had been on holiday for the evening. The food was outstanding, with exceptional service, with a lot of unique character that added to the experience. I ve been back since and it was consistent with delivering the same brilliance as the first visit. Highly recommended
One of the best meals I have a had in memory -food, service and value. Perfect combination of casual luxury and unpretentious fine dining in the middle of rural Somerset. Proper gem
What an absolute gem that needs to be talked about. Came across this amazing flavour experience by total coincidence. In what we thought was the lunchroom behind an artisan bakery that you'd normally only find in super trendy metropolitan areas, we were treated to a restaurant that wowed us at every level. We were welcomed with truly genuine smiles by the different members of the team and settled down in a covid safe but very cosy formal dining room. What we were looking for was a simple but tasty lunch. That idea went out the window as soon as we saw the menu. It was simply too mouthwatering. So....we both went for the full three courses. And...wow....what unexpected but joyous feast of flavoursome, candy to the eye, dishes we got treated to. Go and find out. I bet that it really does not matter what you order, everything will more than please your tastebuds. Thanks to what must be meticulous sourcing their ingredients all stand out. Thanks to a chef who clearly understands how to turn those into superbly balanced dishes your sense for taste is being pleased with every bite you take. We were welcomed with genuine smiles and served by very attentive, knowledgeable staff. We left with even bigger smiles. We ll be back!
Fantastic dining experience - quality food cooked to perfection
Excellent in every way. Food was wonderful, great menu. Ambiance, lighting, music, service was all perfect - so much attention to detail. A delightful evening!
Our first visit and will definitely be returning. 'Balance' seems to be the recurrent theme, whether that's the well-crafted combination of flavours of all our dishes, the airy and tastefully presented room or the attentive but clearly well-trained staff who manage to be unobtrusive yet attentive and knowledgeable; an ability which is often lacking. The beef and baked cod were perfectly cooked dishes, accompanied by imaginative and skilfully executed complimentary flavours. The pastry is exceptional. Presentation was thoughtful and considered portion sizes allowed a comfortable and excellent three course experience. Highly recommended.
Hi. Sunday lunch in your restaurant today was fantastic. You re only a new restaurant, and your waiting staff were very young and inexperienced, however, we both felt they did a great job. Give them 6 months and they ll be first class. The homemade bread and butter was plentiful, tasty and very well made. The starter of the homemade pasta, artichokes and the beef broth was genius. It took real skill to make that broth. I really enjoyed it. The roast beef was very well cooked too. I have to say, I ve never seen or had a Yorkshire pudding stuffed with braised meat, but you should definitely keep doing that for a very long time. It will keep me coming back over and over. I preferred the smaller potatoes over the large pub style ones too. I find they can either be hard and undercooked, or so old and fatty that you can t eat them. They way you do it was perfect and made a really nice change. The sauce was incredibly well made too. I could have drank a jug of it. I don t know how they do it. Can you thank the chefs for us please. We had a great time. We only live in Taunton, and the 40 odd minute journey is well worth it. We ll be back soon. We couldn t manage a pudding, but on the way out we stopped at your bakery and picked up not one, not two, but three of your enormous homemade doughnuts. Two caramel and honeycomb and one apple and custard. They were very nice with a cuppa tea back at home. Once again, please thank your chefs for a fantastic lunch. We ve told many people already, and we ll certainly be back soon enough. Cheers.
