This is a great place to visit. With or without kids you'll find yourself entertained all while getting a quick history lesson. Very clean and new looking. The theater and its show was fantastic. The staff was very friendly helpful and accommodating. If you're ever in the area stop by and have some fun.

Small national battlefeild good for a quick stop. As with most NPS sites, well maintained and staffed. Museum inside larger than it looks from outside and explains significance of this period in US history well.

Fort Necessity Battlefield is a nice place to stop and learn about the start of the French and Indian war. They have a very nice museum with plaques, audio exhibits, and a gift shop. Paths are paved and are wheelchair accessible.

Great visitors center, gorgeous park unfolding on the Fort Necessity recreation. The visitors center looks VERY new and modern, with friendly rangers manning the front desk. Lots of cool history. Didn't get a chance to go to the historical Tavern museum but I plan on going there next time. Definitely recommend.

This was a cooler place than expected. The ranger was really knowledgeable and gave some insight into what happened. Dog friendly, too. Not a lot to see, but worth a side trip for sure.

I never tire of visiting Fort Necessity! The Visitors center shows a film that will help you understand the background and gives an overview of the battle. Displays fill in the details of the battle at Fort Necessity as well as information on the French and Indian war.

Walking out to the battlefield, you will get a sense of what it was like there in the 18th century. The National Park Service is restoring the original tree line and is taking other steps to help this battlefield look the way it did at the time of the battle.

I met a park Service employee who was portraying a British soldier. He added some color about the battle and what it must have been like for the soldiers.

Always a good stop if you're near Route 40 in Western PA!

Lots of great info here about the French and Indian war. If you are interested in George Washington this is the place. Lots of history here. The actual Fort is smaller then most think, but it is the real size of the actual Fort. You will see why George Washington was forced to surrender. Also the museum is also interesting and there is a theater, so enjoy the film about why when and how it all began.

This place was great! Knowledge guides and ranges. Interesting stories and displays. This national battlefield brought the beginning of the French and Indian War together for my daughter who just learned about it in school. And the George Washington connection was really interesting. The bonus was the information on the National Road. I won't give it away, but learning about the National Road was really interesting to me - a Route 66 fan...I highly recommend a visit!

Great location to spend some time and take in some American Revolution History. To walk on the grounds with George Washington and to see some of the historical artifacts in the visitor's center was a great experience. Highly recommended, make sure you go to the fort and to Mount Washington Tavern as well. We have a full review on our blog site and YouTube channel.

Very cool place to visit, kept in very good condition. Not only is the staff extremely educated on every aspect of Fort Necessity, they even dress as if they were there that day. Awesome staff, awesome experience, I would highly recommend!

The battlefield, fort and surrounding are is very cool and we'll maintained. I would definitely recommend going big you are interested in history. There are picnic areas so you could take a lunch and spend the day hiking around or just spend a few hours and tour the museum and see the fort.

Great place for history buffs to come and learn. A twenty minute movie, artifacts and a trip to the fort must ba experienced. The Fort itself is almost disappointingly small, but the history lessons here tell why. Also featured is an exhibit describing the first Federal road.
This place has a small gift shop featuring Virginia hand blown glass. No food or snacks sold here. Public restrooms available. Everything is wheelchair accessible.
If you take your time and hike trails as well, you can experience everything in about three hours. Great for groups.

This is where a young British Lieutenant Colonel from Virginia and his tired and demoralized force made a stand against French forces, in what became the first battle of the French and Indian war. A ranger in the fort is very knowledgeable of the battle, the important events leading up to it and the worldwide tremors it caused. By the way, that Virginia Lt Col would play a major part in later events; he is George Washington.

A very neat experience for the kids! The oldest is into history. I just wish we had more time to do more exploring. This is an all day trip with multiple sites to check out. Put on your hiking shoes. Also visit the picnic area and trails!

Besides learning that George Washington was only 22 at the time. The battle was long before the Declaration of Independence. George was a lieutenant in The English army. The history of US Route 40 (National Road) is also part of the exhibit. National Road was the first road built by the Federal government.

We were there on July 3rd , the anniversary of the battle where General Braddock was killed with Citizenship in the Nation, Archaeology and Indian Lore Merit badge classes from Scout Camp Freedom! Awesome experience! Give yourself plenty of time to see short movie, tour the Fort and see George Washington's Tavern. Nice gift shop as well

Very neat place !
Call ahead before you go to make sure that the ranger will be doing the guided tour because it is definitely worth it.
The visitor building sells some really cool books too.

A surprising display inside we stopped cause we saw a sign and thought it would be neat. Far surpassed my expectations and the Fort my goodness you don't realize how small it was till you go ... No wonder we surrendered. It's not a place for hours but for a quick stop it's pretty awesome.

Unfortunately the walkway to the fort was under construction so we didnt make it back there but the exhibits were so cool, I loved the sounds and set up of everything. There's so much to read and see. They have a little gift shop and some drinks, the park rangers are very nice, and theres even a 20min movie you can watch. It looked like they had quite a few different trails you could walk as well.

It was a very nice place. We were a bit frazzled driving on Route 40 and needed a place to stop and eat lunch. It was quiet and pleasant place. We visited the visitors center. It wasn't there last time I had stopped. It was chock full of information on General Washington stay there. We didn't see the actual fork, didn't have the time and wasn't dressed for the weather. It was a nice stop.

Great place to visit with some interesting history pre-Revolutionary War where it was George Washington's first and only defeat as a commander. The Visitor Center has one of the best NPS education centers I have ever seen.

This historic battlefield has been on my Bucket list for years and never realized how close I was to it and how nice a park that it is. The Visitor's center was build in 2005 and is very modern with a great deal of exhibits and a gift shop. The park grounds are very nice and the trails are easy to navigate. There is usually a volunteer there everyday doing a living history reenactment. Once you are at the Fort site your are only about 500 yards from the Mount Washington Tavern and it is a lovely historical site too. Once you get back on The National Highway you are only about 1.2 miles away from General Braddock's grave site. This is a very nice day trip for the history buff or family.
