I was impressed with the portion size, reasonable price, appearance, and quality of the food. Lots of room for dining (3 4 person booths and at least 2 4 person tables. Decor nice. It was very clean and the wait person was pleasant and efficient.

It's your standard "teriyaki" restaurant that litter the area - more like a fusion of Asian cuisines - Japanese, Chinese and a dash of Korean, with none of them really standing out. Though, this place does serve sushi, so it "leans" Japanese.

Service was friendly and fast.

It's small, so only small groups. Ample free parking is available (strip mall lot). Moderately priced.

Not the best sushi in Tacoma but it is above average and good for the price. It is a cozy location with option to call in for take out. It also offers an isolated place for celebrations with traditional East Asian customs. Have never used it personally but it looks like a nice place to celebrate in style.

Customer service is terrible. The food is never on time when ordering take out, even when calling ahead. Quite honestly, they're rude and don't care. I will be taking my business else where...

Good Sushi However the owner doesn t honor the specials he has listed on a sign, I ordered 3 rolls that cost 40 dollars then I was sitting and noticed 3 rolls for 29.99 and he simply would not honor his own advertised special so I got a full refund and went to a honest business across the street

You might wait for his attention but its a one man show, love the sushi and the depth of the menu. If you get him on a slow night you can chat with the owner for a bit. Not the best sushi ever, but the quality for price ratio is definitely high.

Been here a few times.
Dude is kinda rude, but that's just how Asians act.
Don't take it personally, just enjoy the food.

They used to have a place in Auburn that I would love but they closed. When I remembered they had another location in Tacoma I had to go. The gentleman who helped us was very polite and the food... It was delicious! Best place for Sushi. Will definitely go back.

We've come to this business on and off for the past five years or so. They have a good deal on bento boxes but the food is pretty so-so for quality. We were pretty disappointed that the owner was not wearing a face covering while we paid for our take out this time around. It wasn't like he forgot to put it on and it was under his chin, but he just disregarded it altogether. If they ignore a health law that can potentially get them and others sick or killed, how many other health laws are they ignoring? Are they hand washing and storing food properly? Maybe they think it's not important. I'll order my food from elsewhere from now on.

We've been coming here for several years. The food is always consistent. The best sushi in the Ruston area. Also the yakisoba and bulgogi dishes are flavorful. They are busy at times and there is usually a little wait. I order pickup only but it can still take some time as they are a small business. But the food is worth it.

Flying Fish has been around for some number of years in North Tacoma, and it's been a long friendship with my stomach! The food is very well presented and very tasty! The staff is very polite and always offers help to any questions I have had, even though they are usually very busy! I have taken many friends here for a quick bite of sushi and have gotten many meals to go.

P.S. While I don't generally go out of my way to negate a review, Ginger Finn is either a competitor, liar, or very obtuse individual as she has written nearly the same exact review about Flying Fish and Fusion Bento. Aside from the horrible spelling and grammar, the similarity between the reviews is too coincidental. Please don't rate either establishment based on her review.

This is the best sushi place in the North End of Tacoma without a doubt. The quality is superb, they are usually quick for take-out (and dine in). The older gentlemen who runs the front is a tad abrasive and doesn't say much but has a heart of gold. Highly suggest to anyone looking for quality Sushi in Tacoma. Warning: Dine in only has a few tables so it can be busy at peak hours.

Consistently experienced extremely rude and poor service and have found their establishment to be unclean on many occasions. I kept giving them a chance because of their convenient location, but I won't be returning anymore. Plenty of other Japanese style restaurants in Tacoma with better food, service, and cleanliness, than the Flying Fish.

Took 30 minutes to take order. Teriyaki chicken was tuff and stringy. Sweet and Sour Pork terrible only 3 peices of pineapple and they were soggy and overcooked. Pork was also tuff and stringy. Portions of tuff stringy food was generous however. Rice was good and the egg rolls were good. They need to hire wait staff and better cooks. It's too bad ate there repeatedly when they were in the other location. At one time they were written as best teriyaki in town. Won't be back

Horrible experience! I have spent hundreds of dollars on sushi at Flying Fish because the sushi is delicious but I had an awful encounter with the owner/person working the cash register after politely asking for extra ginger with my sushi order. After asking for extra ginger the owner rolled his eyes and sighed. I asked him if that was a problem and he told me that if they had been busy that he would not have been able to provide me with extra ginger. I reminded him that I has asked for extra ginger when I placed my order over the phone. I told the owner that I thought that it was ridiculous that he was having issues with providing me with extra ginger and that I would be happy to stop doing business with him and take my money and business elsewhere.

We go there twice a week because we love the teriyaki, the fried rice, and the Korean spicy barbecued chicken. If I'm ordering just the teriyaki, they have it ready in five minutes. The owner and the server are friendly and prices are good.

This is my favorite sushi place in Tacoma amd Ive almost been to them all. The rice is made perfect and everything always amazingly fresh and delicious. The BEST rainbow roll in town. If I could move in and only eat their food for the rest of my life you wouldn't be able to stop me. LOL But seriously. I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want it to become even busier. I love the homey feel

When other reviewers say that the front cashier/wa...

When other reviewers say that the front cashier/waiter man is rude they weren't kidding. This is my second time coming here. This time I came with my fiance and my best friend that was visiting from North Dakota. First thing, my fiance began to order and was cut off and ignored by the waiter who asked what kind of drink I wanted. My fiance was like, "oops, sorry my bad." Then, (I was not feeling well this day) so I ordered some Miso soup and for my main dish I ordered Ramen. I know two different soups seems a little odd but I really wasn't feeling well and just felt like eating something easy on the stomach and figured each soup would have its own individual taste anyway. When the man brought me my Miso soup he put it on my fiances space on the table. I grabbed it and began eating. He came over to our table and said, "Give that soup to him. You're already getting soup." I was already shocked by the statement but I said, "I know. This is mine as well." and he continued on, "you're already getting soup. You don't need two soups." Then he made this gesture with his hand and is stomach as if he was making a big belly calling me fat for getting two soups. In front of my fiance and best friend. It was humiliating and so rude. I don't often write reviews but this experience required it. Lastly, when I handed him our payment he "shooed" my hand away as if I was annoying him and that he wanted to pick the bill off of the table on his own. Will NEVER go back here again. EVER.

My picky 11 yo was really happy with her chicken katsu, while I enjoyed my sushi, and my other daughter enjoyed yaki soba. For a small place, there were plenty of choices! Quiet and friendly, too.

RUDE RUDE RUDE! Our server was completely rude, sushi tasted good but it isn't worth the rude service you have to endure. I gave my tip to the chef because he seemed young and polite. If you want good sushi and good service go to Shogun on Mildred they are so sweet and the food is JUST as good.

Been going here for years. I've never had a disappointing meal here. Way better than Trapper's sushi. Plus they are local.
I always get the sushi here. My friend gets the chicken and he says its the best orange chicken he has ever had. We would eat here every day if it were cheaper but their quality is totally worth the price.
FYI, They take to-go orders and they are done quickly.

I ordered during the covid closure times.
Having only take out available and it being a smaller place I expected some sushi placed in a styrofoam container and a lump of wasabi. It was late on a friday, i was tired and just wanted some sushi so I wasnt picky. Id never been here before. When i got home, man was i surprised! My tray was absolutely beautiful. All the same effort and detail as if I had ordered table service at a high end restaurant. This is now my favorite spot in town. Pleasant staff that appeared genuinely happy to have my patronage. Delicious sushi with hints of lemon, and sesame. Perfect slightly sweet sticky rice. I dont know what they treated their veggies with, but ive never had a veggie roll this delicious! Im spoiled to live 1.5 miles from this place! This is a must try place for any sushi lover. Id say theyre the best in Tacoma, and have deffinitely set a new standard in town. You can tell this is art as food, sushi made with love!

This is a very established sushi & teriyaki restaurant here in the north Tacoma Pearl Street area. They were located across the Safeway parking lot for 10 years then closed for 9 months and opened this new location 6 weeks ago.
Very well loved and liked staff that remembers you and your kids names for years.
This place just feels like home to our family since this is and has been our family s go to favorite for 10 years and counting!
Don t let that cloud my judgement, if you re a reader of my reviews you ll know I m quite picky when it comes to Asian cuisine.
The quality of sushi, and sashimi s here is top notch always!
You have to experience it!
