Five Points Association: A Century-Old Destination in the Heart of Downtown Columbia
Five Points is a village unlike any other located in the heart of downtown Columbia, South Carolina. Surrounded by 7+ residential neighborhoods, the UofSC, a buzzing metropolitan, government agencies and supportive military community, this century-old destination has something for everyone! The Five Points Association is a non-profit organization that represents over 100 businesses and property owners in this vibrant community.
The Five Points Association was established in 1985 with the mission to promote and enhance the unique character of Five Points as a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment district. Over the years, it has become an integral part of the community by organizing events such as St. Pat's in Five Points (one of America's largest St. Patrick's Day festivals), Chili Cook-Off (a popular event that attracts thousands every year), and other events throughout the year.
The association also works closely with local government agencies to ensure that Five Points remains safe and clean for residents and visitors alike. It provides additional security measures such as off-duty police officers during peak hours to ensure safety for all who visit or live here.
Five Points is home to over 100 businesses ranging from restaurants, bars, boutiques, salons/spas to professional services such as law firms and real estate companies. The variety of businesses makes it easy for visitors to find what they need while enjoying their time here.
One thing that sets Five Points apart from other shopping districts is its walkability factor. Visitors can park their cars at one end of Devine Street (the main street running through Five points) or on one of its side streets then walk around exploring all that this village has to offer without worrying about parking again until they are ready to leave.
Another unique feature about this area is its history; it dates back over a century ago when it was first developed as an upscale residential neighborhood before transitioning into a commercial district. The architecture of the buildings in Five Points reflects this history, with many of them being over 100 years old.
Five Points is also home to several public art installations that add to its charm and character. One such installation is the "Five Points Mural" located on Harden Street, which depicts the history and culture of this vibrant community.
In conclusion, Five Points Association is an integral part of the community that promotes and enhances the unique character of Five Points as a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment district. Its mission to ensure safety for all who visit or live here has made it a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. With over 100 businesses ranging from restaurants, bars, boutiques, salons/spas to professional services such as law firms and real estate companies; there's something for everyone in this century-old destination located in the heart of downtown Columbia!
