Finding a place that was affordable, pet friendly,...

Finding a place that was affordable, pet friendly, and which rented to individuals under the age of 25 was tough, but Im glad I found Escape Campervans because they met all of the above. We rented a Maverick for 2 and a half weeks and it was a very enjoyable experience! There were 2 of us plus a larger dog and it was a bit tight for space, but that s to be expected when you re sleeping in a vehicle. I think without a dog 3 people would ve been the max we could ve fit comfortably (sleeping arrangement wise) for anybody wondering about space. As others have said it is a bit uncomfortable to sleep on since you re basically just rearranging the seat cushions and thus have a lot of gaps, but we got used to it. The van was given to us very clean and well prepped for the journey, and we were given a thorough explanation of how everything worked before we took off. Our only complaint (which really is minor) is that you don t get too choose the van design, so you get so you may get stuck with something that doesn t suit your taste. The staff were still very helpful about this and let us choose a more preferable van - we just had to wait a few hours for them to clean it - but it was much appreciated since we were going to be living in it for the next 18 days and we didn t want one with fighting robots on the side of it. Overall a great experience and if i ever get the free time to do this again I would rent from Escape a second time!

The customer support was awesome, everyone was super friendly and helpful. I had an issue one day with the van not starting and they got roadside assistance to be there in 30 mins. I was very pleased!!! As for the van itself, it definitely did the job of allowing me to drive from point A to point B while being able to stop and sleep along the way. The only issues I have with the van that I feel need to be addressed is the the suspension and the Park/Reverse indicator. The suspension was on its last leg, at highway speeds I could feel the van move and shift well after hitting any kind of raised road condition. I consider myself a very comfortable driver having to operate much larger vehicles being in the military. And even I was a little nervous going around corners and along narrow roads. The brakes were worn but not a safety issue. The Park and Neutral indicator was getting worn out so there were a few times when I would go to start the engine and the engine would not turn over. After checking the battery, starter and relays, I had to call roadside assistance to come and help and lost about a half day of travel, which was reimbursed upon returning the vehicle (which was awesome.) After putting the van in Neurtal, she started right up.

The interior of the Van has so much potential!!!! The best way I could describe it would be "cheap." Like I said, it did the job and was actually very comfortable but there was no doubt that this thing had some serious miles on it. The back kitchen area was very useful, but aesthetically it could use an upgrade. I give the company itself 5 stars for their excellent customer service but I give the Vans a low 2. Especially because of the price of the total trip.
Be advised there is a 100 mile a day limit. So when planning your trip keep that in mind. The company offers an upgrade to 200 miles a day but is pretty steep costing around 250 bucks on top of the rental.

My trip was great and I had an awesome time, I just see the potential this company has, and it's just not there yet. Love the people, van was OK.

Van was awesome, clean, easy to drive, comfy sleep. Van was super easy to convert. Staff were very helpful and accommodating! Everything costs extra which is frustrating - instead of spending $40 on the kitchen set, we bought a pot for $8 and used that!! Worked like a charm :).

Took a 3 day trip in Colorado.

Great option. Their people are super friendly and helpful, and the rates are pretty unreal. Heads up for the winter campers: make sure to rent the ice scraper (i.e. doesn't come with one).

Had an amazing experience with the escape campervans - all the vans were new, clean and drove well - which to me is the most important thing. I rented from Cheapa campa in Australia a couple years ago which got me hooked on the campervan experience and Escape def exceeded my expectations. :)

We rented an Escape Campervan in Denver to venture south to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Our van was Rocky, one of the Maverick vans, and it was more than adequate and comfy for me and my two pre-teen kids. The bench/table to bed shift was really fast and easy. Everything in the kitchen set up worked perfectly for us. The things we added on were chairs and a kitchen kit (as Denver is not home and we did not fly with a lot of gear with us). My kids thought the colorful van was just magical and they loved it the day I woke up early and drove while they were still asleep, they said it was like time travel!
Only downsides you might not be expecting- if you are driving in the mountains, be aware that the van's AC may cut off and on depending on the grade the van is climbing. Additionally, bring your own charging block, as the van does not have a USB or auxiliary plug where you may charge your mobile phone.
We can't wait to rent an Escape camper van again for another adventure. Please come build a depot in Texas!

Loved it, got to be right in some of the national parks for sunset and sunrise, which was my goal. Everything was as advertised. As a middle aged guy, I can report that you have to crawl around a bit when bed is set up, which requires some agility, that I may or may not have had. But you get the hang of it.

The check-in and drop-off went very smoothly. We were treated very professionally. I'd definitely do this again.

Thank you Escape Campervans!

We loved our escape campervan! We travelled from Denver and spent 2 weeks around southern Utah, southwest Colorado and northern Arizona. The van was perfect for 2 people and we disperse camped every night and cooked out the back of the van most nights! I would recommend them to everyone...it's the experience of a lifetime and I can't wait to do it again!

We just returned a Mavericks van to the Denver depot after 11 nights and could not recommend the experience enough. Firstly, I'd like to commend the entire Escape team's customer service throughout our experience. Everyone from reservation, to pickup/dropoff at the Denver depot (Amy), to the roadside assistance was communicative, kind and willing to help with any questions. Our original itinerary was one way from Denver to Seattle - shortly before departure fires started to get bad through CA/OR/WA and we called Escape to see what our options were if it got worse. They were flexible about letting us potentially drop off at a different depot. This gave us a huge peace of mind going into the trip, and when things got significantly worse in the first two days we were easily able to change our itinerary back to dropping off in Denver (went through UT/CO). Though we dropped off a day earlier than expected and were unable to get that day's cost back, Escape waived the original one way fee we paid which was HUGE. The mavericks was extremely easy to drive (felt comfortable on curvy scenic byways) and would recommend if you don't need a larger rig (fit into regular parking spots / tent spots). We had an incredible experience and can't wait for the next!

Loved the idea of camping in vans, loved outdoors ...

Loved the idea of camping in vans, loved outdoors and I understand the camping feeling and camping moments but the van we had for 5 nights wasn t the best van, we had a Ford 2013, had 177,000 + miles, the steering wheel/routers and brakes didn t work well downhill , not saying it was unsafe to drive but it was very scary when my steering wheel started shaking every time I had to press the brakes going from Pagosa Springs Co to the Sand Dunes on 160 East downhill.
Another problem, the faucet from the van kitchen fell off every time we pumped water from it.
Another issue we encountered was that the speedometer malfunctioned for one day by running 30 miles over the actual speed limit we were driving. The problem fixed itself the next day we returned the van.
Overall we had a super fun time and we got some $ back because of these problems.

My now husband, and I rented a Big Sur for our 7 day honeymoon to travel from Denver to the Grand Canyon and back, making stops along the way. When we arrived to pick up the van, the first thing we noticed was how clean it was. The design of the inside of the van allowed so much storage in cubbies, compartments, and even 3 drawers. The dining seats convert into a queen sized bed that was super cozy, with curtains to draw for a black out sleep and privacy. The rear of the van had a camper stove and pump sink which was really handy to cook and wash dishes with, along with a fridge drawer that holds an adequate amount of food and drinks. We found the van size to be perfect as it s smaller than an RV and therefore easier to get into parks or streets with RV limitations. Also, it was pretty good on gas considering it s size, and super easy/comfortable to drive. We loved it so much were now so dieting purchasing one!

We loved our Escape Campervan, Coyote Butte. It worked out perfect for us. We flew into Denver and Ubered to Aurora to pick it up. We were welcomed by Amy. She was wonderful to work with. Very friendly and knowledgeable about our van. She even suggested a great lunch place before she sent us on our way. Which was awesome! We traveled down to Canyon City and did a white water rafting trip. We spent a couple of nights in that area boon docking it. Then on to Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Fort Collins ( lots of breweries involved), up to Cheyenne WY and then worked our way back, stopping in Boulder. We drove over 800 miles and enjoyed being spontaneous by having a camp van. Try it!!! You will love it!!!

Great vans and excellent customer service. My wife and I rented a van for 1 week traveling from Denver to Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain. The vehicle is safe, well-maintained and comfortable. James and Jenna are awesome, they make things easy and are always ready to help. I would rent it again, strongly recommended.

First off, the staff at this location were very friendly and helpful, and the setup of the van was perfect for traveling. The kitchen setup in the back is really ideal, and there was enough room for the two of us and our gear. The paint job was cute and received many positive comments on the road. Having the small fridge and sink were big pluses. I do, however, have a few complaints:
1) The van itself was old (~15 yrs) and had almost 300k miles on it. For instance, whenever we were accelerating (not just in the mountains, even on the relatively flat highway) the blower on the AC/heat would shut off. So we'd be freezing going downhill, then burning going uphill. Also, when we checked the oil level it was more than a quart low. It was fine for a sort of hippy experience, and did not actually break down, but this rental was more expensive than another company I used that had newer vans, so for the price I would expect a better vehicle.
2) I called the only phone number listed anywhere, an 800-number, the Thursday before we were supposed to return the truck. I spoke with a woman who said my question needed to be answered by the Seattle location and she would transfer me. The transfer said "extension unknown" and hung up on me. I called back and got voicemail - I left a message asking for someone to call me back. I called again twice on Friday, and again on Saturday, leaving messages each time. No one ever, to this day, has called me back. Now, there is a different extension for "roadside help," which I did not have to call, but this experience of absolute lack of communication did make me suspicious of what would happen if I did need someone urgently. Hopefully they check those messages more often!
3) They don't include towels... towels aren't on the list of included items, so it wasn't a surprise, but it seems super strange to me. If we need pillows and a comforter and a pot and pan... wouldn't we need towels? I just imagine that each camper is buying and throwing away towels and if they are doing linen laundry anyhow, why not include that basic item to make it a complete package?
Overall, I would be willing to use them again, but I would look at other options and prices first. We did have a one-way rental, which was great, but I wonder if that impacted the quality of the van we received. The trip was great, the van kept going, and after a trip to the store we had what we needed.

I had a wonderful time in the maverick escape camper van! We rented in December for five days. The staff was great! Very knowledgeable, gave helpful tips and professional. The van was clean, easy to use, and had all of the basics. Affordable. We are looking forward to our next rental with escape camper vans!

My grown sons and I took the Maverick with the upper berth from Denver to Seattle by way of 5 National Parks (Rocky Mnt, Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, Rainier). It served us very well on all terrain and weather (yes, even a snowstorm on Beartooth Pass). It had a few little flaws, but the tires were good, the fridge worked well, and we had enough room for our gear and selves. We loved being able to pack up quickly before sunrise to catch early wildlife grazing and to cook/prepare meals wherever/whenever we needed to. Next time, we'll upgrade to Big Sur so the back seat won't be as far back from the front. Looking forward to our next adventure through ECV!

Update: After posting my review, Will (the regional manager) called me personally to apologize for our experience with the AC. He asked what they could have done differently in the return process, refunded me the rest of the $100 for mileage, and offered a free upgrade next time we rent from them. The refund and upgrade are fantastic, but the customer service Will provided was the piece that was missing when we returned the van. I really appreciated him reaching out and making us feel heard. Kindness goes a long way :). He also explained that they did not have any notes on this van about the AC not working correctly or they would have gotten it fixed before our rental. I would still suggest potential customers check out the AC to make sure it is working properly if that is something that is important to you. Based on this customer service, we will definitely be back to Escape Campervans. Thanks Will!

Overall, our experience with the van (Springtime) was alright. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was convenient. The one (big) complaint we had was the AC. The main reason we rented a van was for the comfort of an AC while sleeping and during hot spells. Tent camping gets really hot in the Colorado sun- so we opted for the van. None of the 6 vents in the back worked at all and the AC would not work when pushing on the gas if we were going over 25 mph. We brought up this issue when we returned the van and received $50 off, which is insignificant (~5%) compared to the $900 we spent in order to camp comfortably. We were happy to get some sort of reimbursement, but there was no apology or any kind of customer service to go along with it. We weren t looking for anything huge but some sort of acknowledgement that having no working AC is a pretty big bummer for that much money would have been nice. Instead, we were made to feel like we were being ridiculous for wanting a working AC, and were told that the AC turns off so the van does not overheat. If the van is constantly on the verge of overheating when it is going over 25 mph on a flat road, I think it is time to retire that one. She also didn't address the rear vents not working, even though she checked when we went out to the van with her. I just wanted to make people aware of this if having a working AC is important to you- be sure to check before you leave with the van.
