Particulate matter from grime marl limestone that causes lungs / cancer. If you breathe the stuff.

Entire factory must close. They receive waste from nuclear power stations. They process this with feeders. That precious "stone" is mined and the "residual" waste is incinerated.

So make a profit.

And quickly process "waste" in cement.

Even worse than a drug lab !.

Theo Janssen ENCI.

is itself a major environmental polluter !!

A beautiful walking area along the Enci grooves and Encibos with d'N Observant as the highlight. This border on Walonnie Belgium and on the other side can be in Belgium.
You can reach this area via the low canal dyke (Sint Pieter) or via the Sint Pietersberg. You have a restaurant D'n Observant on the low canal dyke next to Enci and a restaurant d parking lot and Fort Sint Pieter.

A very beautiful nature area to walk through. It was only a pity that the "view bridge" was closed. Probably due to vandalism. From above you have a beautiful view over the quarry. Really recommended

Chance brought us here ... a brochure that we found in the restaurant on Brunssumer Heide.

What a great surprise to find such nature in combination with industrial culture in a former marl mining area.

There are signposted routes of different lengths that are marked in color.

We took the yellow route. We found this particularly exciting. We started at St. Pieter Fort. (A little difficult to find a parking space there, although there are already a few.) It went up the mountain, through fields, to the edge of the marl mining area, along it, down a staircase with 215 steps and across. There is even a restaurant at the end. So you can make your way back to the fort on the other side of the huge pit.

The roads were paved ... asphalt, gravel and forest roads.

We'll be back for sure!

Great to be able to visit this "strange place" in Maastricht.
In summer it just looks like wandering the landscapes of Malta with the rocks and water and the view from the viewing platform is gorgeous. The stairs will almost kill you but it's worth the ascent!
