While there’s a slight chirping from the water pump or crank area initially, it fades after just ten or fifteen minutes, leaving the engine quieter overall than with the old V-belt setup. I suspect the thrust and roller bearings just need to warm up and self-adjust their alignment. Everything lines up within a millimeter when cold and is properly tensioned. I’ve been running an Electromaax Cruiser 140 on my 2005 Hunter 36, equipped with their serpentine belt kit, pulleys, and tensioner for a Yanmar 3YM30 engine. I installed this setup back in 2009, and it’s still performing flawlessly. There’s no black dust from the belts, no squealing, and tensioning is a breeze. I’m done with using a hammer handle or a large screwdriver just to lever the alternator over to tighten the bolts! I’ve also put similar belt and pulley kits on two 3JH4 engines, which were quick and easy installs, taking less than an hour. For those larger engines, I added an Electromaax idler wheel to increase belt wrap around the alternator pulley, which prevents squeal when pulling over 150A from their GenMAAX alternators. I had to use the second mounting hole on the adjusting arm because the bolt hit the companionway stair support, but it still aligned correctly and belt tensioning was easy. I also had to slightly drill out the pivot bolt hole since the shoulder was a bit too wide, ensuring a snug fit afterward. I mounted the external rectifier and SSP on the bulkhead above the port access panel, near the alternator, while the regulator, remote disconnect, and communications module are located with the LiFePO4 batteries. The cable lengths for the temperature sensor and regulator were more than sufficient to reach from the other side of the engine. The battery connection diagram was clear and helpful. Overall, a fantastic product, and I really appreciate the support from the team.

Electromaax in Lincoln, ON, proved to be a fantastic partner for our marine engine upgrade. We ordered the serpentine belt kit for our Universal M-25, which required some specific fitting work. Since our crankshaft pulley wasn't tapped for the new setup, John and his team at Electromaax were incredibly helpful. They analyzed our part and set up a custom mold to create a compatible replacement pulley, ensuring we could proceed with the upgrade. The installation went smoothly thanks to a Dewalt impact wrench, and despite the M-25 series having changed design several times over the years, the fitment was ultimately successful. We did have to address a few minor details: the original crankshaft on older models has a .875 hole, while the pulley arrived bored to .870, requiring a quick trip to a machine shop. Additionally, we had to swap the belt size from 42 to 40 inches to accommodate the updated alternator bracket. The water pump and Balmar 912 alternator pulleys fit perfectly, and now our system is up and running with zero slip. The switch from V-belts to this ribbed serpentine system was worth it. Our previous setup with a 90-amp alternator was throwing black rubber dust everywhere due to slippage. This new system handles the load without slipping, runs cleaner, and doesn’t require the belt to be tensioned as tightly. It’s a modern solution that leaves the door open for adding more gear like a water maker or refrigeration. Electromaax worked hard to solve the fitting issues, and I’m very impressed with their support.
