My 88 year old dad recently spent 24 days at Eger....

My 88 year old dad recently spent 24 days at Eger. We were sadly disappointed in the level of care he received. Except for two wonderful nurses on the third floor, Erin and Christina, Eger was awful. The lack of communication was terrible even for the simplest things. The physical therapist was always abrupt and rude when questioned. His assessment on my dad s discharge papers is so wrong. The home care set up by the social worker is non existent a week after being discharged. No physical therapy has been set up yet. The discharge papers gave no instructions regarding his catheter. The medical supply company that Eger used for his hospital bed was equally inept. It took them 3 days for a same day delivery. My family has had experiences with other nursing homes in the past and Eger is by far the worst.

At the risk of sounding extreme, Egers is a danger...

At the risk of sounding extreme, Egers is a dangerous place. I'm posting this as a warning to hopefully help in a decision to consider Egers. We were effectively duped by intake reps who came across as trustworthy, positive, and reassuring but the reality is something else.

My mother went to Egers for short-term hip rehabilitation. Before going, my siblings and I made separate calls to Egers representatives to determine their facility's safety (re: COVID). We were assured of strict protocols, including strict requirements for masks for staff and patients. Unfortunately, my mother was diagnosed with COVID after spending eight days in Egers (after she tested negative immediately prior to entering Egers). After a number of phone calls to Egers' staff, we were able to determine that Egers not only had many residents with COVID but that the floor they put my mother on had a high number of COVID residents (!). This info was never given to us prior and ... we only received it from staff members after VERY direct questioning. It is just not reasonable to maintain that all those whom we spoke with developed the same policy not to disclose this information. It has to be a strategy / policy that was planned by Egers and communicated to its staff that said to avoid disclosure related to their COVID numbers and giving out only the minimal information only when very specific questions were asked.

The story gets worse. The nurse who gave my mother the bad news did not have a mask on (!). Bizarrely, the nurse tried to allay my mother's fears by literally hugging my mother ... without a mask (!) and suggesting that 'we' (the staff) aren't worried about COVID given that most of the cases are mild (!). My mother reported that the nurse was a nice person and well-intended but ... this is very misguided. Worse, given that she could walk in without mask and not have any fears of this violating company protocol (along with her subsequent actions and comments) strongly point to the company's overall attitude towards its protocols. Given the staff's lax attitude towards COVID and the high number of COVID patients on the floor they put my mother on, it's not surprising that my mother contracted COVID.

My mother had to wait until she tested negative for COVID before leaving Egers. While there, she reported some positive things with respect to some staff members. However, in addition to the above serious issues, her general experience was a feeling of having to wait a long time for simple requests and being ignored (probably due to an overworked staff).

Absolutely horrible! I have a family member in there who waits HOURS for someone to take him to the restroom !! OR they answer the call bell and say I ll be right back which turns Into hours nor do they answer the nursing station phone. They were also hospitalized due to dehydration as the aids think it s a luxury not a necessity to fill up the water pitcher! They forget that the patients that occupy the beds were once teachers, engineers , social workers etc, they treat the patients like second class citizens and give them care when it s convenient for them! Total disgraceful!!

My sister has been permanent resident at Egers for 4-5 years. Food is horrible! Not balanced meals! So I was finally able to visit her Saturday since pandemic , her room was filthy! Floors are just washed where you walk! Her tray table had crusted food spills dried on it..my daughter n I cleaned up the best we could! Disgraceful conditions!

The Aides were great, a few nurses were excellent....

The Aides were great, a few nurses were excellent. But the therapist never pushed my Mom to do her workouts to get her legs stronger. They chose instead to call the Insurance carrier and tell them that she wasn't doing what she was supposed to forcing her out after only a month. Now my Mom is in the Hospital again because she wasn't ready to be released. Some of the staff LIE to you and tell you different things than the patient. My mom was there for the first 2 weeks with no problems and 2 roommates that were pleasant, then a woman that was someone else problem in another room was put in with my Mom and caused all kinds of havoc. A/C on full with the windows open and she used an oxygen tank. A recent Thunderstorm on Mothers Day she had the window open and was flooding the room and I had words with her. so instead of moving the problem, they moved my mother. mind you, we asked the staff 3 times to take care of this. Another woman asked for a bedpan twice in 45 minutes and they left her there with no assistance until she peed the bed. When the staff goes on break THEY ALL GO ON BREAK at the same time leaving the floor empty. I was not happy with the most of the staff there other than some of the Aides that really looked after her.

I can t rave enough about the wonderful aide Maria...

I can t rave enough about the wonderful aide Maria from the 3rd floor afternoon staff that I had most days. She was truly caring, kind and compassionate. The aides Delia and Nicki from 3rd floor Morning staff were very helpful, kind and caring to me. They all deserve recognition for the amazing care they gave me. 3rd Floor nurse staff was very nice and caring. Overall at Egers is understaffed, food is blah, only 2 showers a week and the worst of it was-You could wait anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour for someone to help you to to the bathroom; this is unacceptable, especially for someone non-weight bearing. They rather put a diaper on a person and clean them up, than come in a timely manner. The Rehabilitation Staff is the most KIND, compassionate, helpful and nice group of people I ve ever met. Liya, Theresa, Joe, Grace, Dawn and Every single employee of the Rehab staff was top notch, they are ALL TRULY AMAZING people.
