Easterseals Crossroads is a non-profit organization that strives to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities. They offer a variety of services including children's speech, occupational, physical, and behavioral therapy, early intervention, driver training (for individuals with disabilities and assessments for older adults that may no longer be appropriate for driving), veterans services, deaf community services, vocational rehab, transition services for individuals transitioning from high school to employment, and adult day services.
My favorite program they offer is the respite services. This includes summer camps and Friday evening programs like Parent's Night Out, Teen Night Out, and CHEER. Parent's Night Out is a Lilly grant-funded program that allows parents to bring their children with disabilities and typically developing siblings on Friday evenings once a month for games and activities, while the caregivers have a restful night out, for free! The staff are specifically trained to work with children with significant needs to create a safe, engaging space. Teen Night Out and CHEER are similar programs, but specifically for the individuals with disabilities to foster social interaction with peers (for teens and adults). CHEER , the adult respite program, often participates in community outings and special events like going to hockey games, comedy shows, and hosting a prom!
The main location (Kingsway Drive), recently underwent renovations to the main lobby which significantly updated the building's feel from the dinosaur ages to the current time. Employees are truly passionate about helping others throughout the entire lifespan.
