Pastor Miller is amazing! He frequently brings me to tears. He is a good man. I am one of the white members of the congregation and have been welcomed with open arms. The work of our Lord is here at Dupage AME in the loving kindness of the church members. Check it out! The choirs and bands are wonderfully inspiring.

Good church. The spirit of Christ is here. Unfortunately, as a white person - I felt a "vibe" from the pastor that maybe I didn't belong. In fairness, maybe it was my own bias because I was one of very few white people in the church amongst many of my black brothers in christ. I also wish they would change the name of the church - because the word "African" sounds like you may only want people of African decent. Make no mistake - it's predominately a black persons church. (and, they were kind and loving) I know there is a historical reason for the name and all - but, face it - it sends a message and to me it limits the possibilities. That's the reality of marketing and having a name. Anyway, I wish em every blessing.

Rocky Ruggiero seems to be a gentle spiritual man. However, he takes issue with the name of the African Methodist Episcopal church. Says, "if the shoe were on the other foot" and was sorry it didn't work out, though graciously. Here's the thing, however-there is no shoe and there is no other foot. Black people have endured so much, been asked so much, been demanded so much in this country despite many of their ancestors did not choose to be here. Who were, in fact, considered non-humans-and literally walked with no shoes. I grew up in the South Suburbs, in a town and church integrated (I mean black and white people: excluding so many others i have met in New York). That church was my home. all of those people were my family. If we're raising "political correctness," why was there no issue with these people of faith taking onn the Methodist and Episcopalian names? The one that bore a harsh, graceless Calvinism into Americans, the other an offshoot of the British Anglican church? Was that not disputed? Was that not seen as " was. Interesting that black American's adoption of these two very different, very American denominations were not seen as a problem by them! No: black Americans have always been taxed with adopting to a white status quo. And because they chose to honor the country where we ALL come from, and chose to love and serve God with dignity and respect for other ways of worship, they are criticized. Well I say: is there nothing more inclusive THAN the African continent? I'm not going back. All have sinned and fallen short. All need grace and forgivenesses. And all need the love of Christ to pierce through this discomfort of difference. In the end, we are all different. And all the same. God forgive me.
