My son attended from 6 - 8 grade and truly wish they would have been able to build the high school they planned. My son never did as well in school as when he was there. The charter school program is great for kids. The only negative thing I will say is similar to Lowell school. Terrible pick and drop off system and it is somewhat dangerous the way that transitions happen.

My daughters teacher Tiffany Benoit (4th Grade Teacher) Had made an comment about parents/anybody on welfare saying: That all people do when there on welfare is sit on there "butt" Eat Doritos and buy "New Port Cigarettes" well playing video games. Defiantly not okay... I would never recommend this school to anybody just because of that. Other then that the school was always good about bullying and Steve was always really nice and he would only call me about necessary thinks unlike the other dean of students who have worked there (Ryan)... Most of all the office staff were always really nice, Barb and Bonnie were really cool about informing me about updates... and yeah...

current student: School deserves a 0 if i could. Alot of the teachers are nice and most of them dont care about anything. The head of schools is really nice but its like she doesnt care. The deans are pretty nice and just that the academic director and the head of schools needs to know who there hiring. Half of the teachers are careless. You have to be perfect in order to get good grades...

Edison/North Star Academy was a horrible experienc...

Edison/North Star Academy was a horrible experience for me and my peers. My earliest memories of that school was constant bullying, teachers that cared about no one, and cliques so bad that i could point them out even if one was away from the group.

But in order to be positive in some way i will list the pros and cons.

A pro is this school is very prideful of themselves. I remember the administration being very prideful of everything they do and spending large sums of money on donating and school upkeep.
A pro is that the art programs were a huge plus and a lot of time was spent making amazing projects.
I agree with the idea of painting the school walls to lessen the famous rumor that this school was like a prison.
The pride this school had was both a blessing and a curse, and the playground was amazing.
A pro is the dances and community events along with the field trips was an amazing thing to do and they always tried to include the students.

Almost anything else i can think of turns out to be a con, so let's dive into that.

The money it took to join any extracurricular was a ton. This school required a lot of money to attend, it being private.
My friends have informed me about the detentions being uncomfortable, especially since the principal viewed them through a one way glass.
Opinions were not welcome in this school whatsoever. The student council never accomplished anything.
Students didn t pay attention in class and failed more often than not.
I don t remember a single teacher who cared about my chronic depression and reluctance to learn things i did not understand, even when i heard tell of a kid self-harming in class nothing was done.
Bullying is a huge problem. Names, harassment, fights that ended in bruises, broken bones, depressing outcomes, and humiliation was not rare. Violence was common. I don t remember any anti-bullying campaigns or anything of that sort.
If you were not in a clique you didn t exist in this school. Me and my friends formed a group on our own, we ended up being the nerds, losers. I am not bitter about that for i enjoyed our positive outlook and group that accepted each other. Me and my friends were often the victim of bullying, however.
If you weren t a model student they didn t acknowledge you. No rewards, no nothing.
There were no LGBT+ rights whatsoever and now that i consider it, the ethical diversity was less to none.
The sex ed classes were horrible. They explained nothing and i found more answers to my sexual health questions looking up Planned Parenthood learn more than 50 minutes of a lady telling me about pubescent occurrences.
Students got in trouble for enjoying paranormal and horror topics, especially after the Slenderman Stabbing incident told by the news. While that was a horrible incident, i don t believe students should be punished and paranoia should spread.
I have heard about and seen multiple occurrences of self harm, vomiting, physical violence, and drugs. I don t remember anything being done.

I highly suggest to consider your options before going here. I can t speak for the current environment of the school but i can speak for how it was to me for over 3 years. I d give North Star one star. Don't attend this school.

Not even worth A star, any former Wisconsin studen...

Not even worth A star, any former Wisconsin student should know that Wisconsin has a higher system of education in their public schools, it's higher then the public school in Duluth (in this case Lincoln) and the charter school (this one). I was a former student here so I can tell you how I feel/felt about this school.
To add on to my statement on education here, I came from another state not far away and public school there were challenging and good. If you even care for your child's education and smarts this school won't be much of any good.
I managed all to get All A's even though I didn't do much at all. The most questionable A I got was from Algebra (the higher up class) because let me tell you, I dislike math with a passion. The school year before my year here (2015-2016) I was a B student for math, AND I was in the lower class! So me not doing much for school year 2016-2017 and getting an A EACH quarter in ADVANCED math is quite odd to me.

Now you might be wondering "well where will my child go?!" try
a school in Hermantown or if you can manage to afford it, Marshall (a private school located in Duluth).

THAT WAS MORE OF AN EDUCATIONAL STANDPOINT, IF INTERESTED IN SCHOOL FLAWS AND ODDITIES PROCEED!

So you've seen the outside, sleek, updated and modern looking. Then you see the main entrance/cafeteria. Also pretty cool. Northstar Academy SEEMS nice. But as weeks come by you'll notice (students) space shortage.
The girls locker room is TINY, all the females are close and changing and that's annoying because why would you wish to touch sweaty, smelly humans? Or get their bottoms in your face?
This school does not (as of 2016-2017) have a library (there is one but it barely is a library, it's only for elementary students). So expect a "wonderful" decrease in your student's reading.
The cafeteria didn't have much room for a my past grade, they let other grades except ours, use four sets of tables and our grade was expected to be crammed into three, which was terrible.
The lockers were sad, they're half lockers and just pathetic. But that's just what I thought.

This school was clique-y and last year I recall a nude being sent around school from one of the males. His fault though.

Good luck with the school you choose, remember I warned you about this and told you what I thought/experienced.
