One of the little known resources of Vienna! This auction house is located in a large palace in the center of Vienna which is worth a visit. You can admire what will be sold in the next sales, and also buy many objects directly at very attractive prices, as if you were at a huge antique dealer. It also has a cafe with a nice view over the roofs of Vienna
Very nice premises and interesting tricks.Fantastic old jewelry.
There is a cafe on the top floor which was really nice. Before that, stroll through the halls and look at all sorts of valuable and less valuable odds and ends. We liked it a lot
As a regular Dorotheum customer, I have certainly bought over a hundred exhibits in the past 10 years and am always amazed by the - let's say expandable - "customer-oriented" support, starting with long waiting times on the phone and then telephone information, which is "undesirable" "occurs to transfers that take over a week (!) until they are actually booked and registered by the Dorotheum, up to ultimately unnecessarily long waiting times when collecting the auctioned items. You often get the impression that you are still dealing with officials from the imperial era. Only the gentlemen in the Expedit in the Palais are always very friendly and courteous - that's why I would like to thank the latter gentlemen and three stars!
Have pawned an old jewelry. I was immediately helped and an expert has taken a close look at him. This has me on closer inspection, the price gennant (which was above my wishful thinking) and me further explains how to get this price. So all in all top and fast advice and help. Will definitely come back soon!
A beautiful auction house with a large exhibition of works of art, I recommend visiting this building for the vault and the climate inside.
Recently I was here at the Dorotheum. I am overwhelmed by this building, built in 1707. And the selection is huge and fascinating. Honestly, I never thought that there would be something in Vienna. A good tip for tourists who want to buy antiques.
Unfortunately, the antiquities we bought from us were improperly packed by the Dorotheum and thus seriously damaged during shipping. The claims settlement was not done to our satisfaction. One invokes all too fast on the AGB.
Always worth a visit! Especially before auctions, when the relevant art objects can be viewed beforehand. The auctions are also very interesting, you should have experienced this once, even if you do not intend to bid. The premises alone are worth a look at the Dorotheum. The employees are particularly friendly and ready to provide any information.
great house with lots of individual jewelry, I love the special pieces of the Dorotheum. There is a special flair there and there is good advice!
Auction house and also resembles a luxury pawnshop. Something for everyone. You can also eat and drink something there. Highly recommended.
Choice when buying directly is good. It could be more fancy under it.
Nice building. Changing exhibitions. Nice coffee, practically without tourists. Tip for bad weather.
Several stages of exposure. Almost all aspects of Austrian art. Muffled atmosphere to admire all these riches. Enjoy Viennese coffee on the 3rd floor to regain strength.
Very high quality products, excellent online store.
Great Auction House full of treasures waiting to be discovered and acquired.
Try not to call there at all, you will not get further than information.
Gave up after the 8th connection attempt.
This is where auctions take place, including exhibits delivered to a pawnshop and not inflated back. There are auctions (a proclamation that raises the price and ends with a hammering knock) of cheap items and there are some of the expensive products so if you come to participate and buy something cheap by lifting hands and competing with someone else, this is the place. Find out first when the item you selected is being sold.
It is always an experience to visit the Dorotheum. The ambience, the building and also the atmosphere.
OK. You have to be able to afford certain things, but it is also possible to get hold of affordable pieces.
So far, I cannot complain about the service that has been offered and you are treated very well even as a small customer.
From 4 purchased articles only one corresponded to the description / the described condition. It is advertised with state descriptions created / checked by experts, which in my case deviate significantly from the actual state. There was not even a reply to a request / complaint in this regard.
Never have I felt so degraded and worthless, as in Dorotheum 1bez.Personal rude plus rip off .... Never again.
Unfortunately unprofessional for a well-known auction house.
I used to bring some antiques there but it has deteriorated a lot over the past few years.
I am now waiting almost 3 months for the payment. Each time something different is communicated on the phone.
Very much in need of improvement
.
Auction house of first rank. Alone the premises because of very worth seeing. On the top floor there is a small, very charming cafe for service. Great tip for a covered walk on a rainy day.
No useful preliminary information (in the request by mail). Extremely unfriendly and condescending staff in the evaluation of the goods brought. Unorganized reception and little information on site.
Dorotheum, founded in 1707, is one of the oldest auction houses in the world. It has its headquarters in Vienna on Dorotergass and is the largest auction house in continental and German-speaking Europe.
Auction house with tradition. Spacious showrooms and exquisite art. Also nice coffeeshop on top floor.
Treasure hunters are welcome to dig.
Success guaranteed!
The Dorotheum, is one of the world s largest auction houses and the leader in Central Europe, offers its clients over 600 auctions each year in over 40 categories. Of particular importance are the four major international auction weeks with various types of contemporary art which receive a special emphasis classic modernism, old masters, and 19th century painting. In addition to art, antiques, and classic cars, design represents a special focus at this auction house located in Vienna s center.
The Dorotheum in the city center is forgotten. Very unfriendly, at the same time incompetent so-called experts who make you feel like a supplicant. There you have the feeling that it is best not to come in the first More
Impressive institution with a long history. Interior is very clean, well organized and easy to get around. Personnel is very friendly.
Have been a regular customer for years. Unfortunately, this online auction because of the pandemic cannot convey the great feeling of a normal auction. Was the only one there! The staff was great. Unfortunately, the information to be able to take the lot bought at auction on Saturday (had to stay overnight once, as I live 220km away!) Was wrong! Still great !!
Nice, exclusive, oldest auction house in the world, Kaiser Joseph 2, 1707 !!!
Was just in Dorotheum at the preview of the auction contemporary art. Is really impressive what is offered here. Fontana, Lassnig, great names, high quality and very international.
On the ground floor you can not only see exquisite items in display cases, but also see the valuation and the selling price or auction approach. Tempting, high quality offer at attractive prices! An Austrian institution in the valuation of luxury goods, furniture and jewelry! Open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m., but free sales from 10 a.m.
Branch 10, Erlachgasse 90:
The customer in front of me asked the appraiser whether a particular detail was included in the set he had just acquired. The appraiser put the customer down in a rude tone and wordy for stupid. The customer stayed polite and tried to appease them, but that didn't slow the appraiser down.
When it was my turn, I asked if the property I had brought with me could be used. The appraiser immediately dismissed me and made me understand the ridiculousness of my intentions.
It appears that courtesy and appropriate behavior towards the customer are not among the requirements of an appraiser in the Dorotheum.
At least my tel. Contacts with two branches were both polite.
I love to browse there. Always something new, ideal for gifts! Miss the cafe !! Hopefully open again soon.
The service could be improved. Long waiting times for inquiries and only if you make contact yourself again.
The staff is not trying, rude and annoyed. In addition, rarely find and if you buy something, it takes forever because the colleagues chatting with each other and it stretches out.
Thank you Mr. Enter, he'll accept the goods. He is always very friendly and helpful.
Below any standards!
After emailing countless times and not receiving any answers, I thought it was a good idea to give them a call. IF you are lucky that someone picks up the phone, you will be put on hold immediately and refered to anther department and then you are just waiting for someone to pick up the phone. I think only 1 person works in that building part time!
Many reviews are aimed at the building which is really nice. That's all!
I can not recommend anyone to sell something there - you will be processed from the top down! Never again will I carry money to the Dorotheum! They should be ashamed and have to train the employees how to deal with customers!
Incredible works of art wonderful atmosphere better than in the museum.
I love this house! in particular by the highly esteemed and very competent porcelain expert Mrs. Ursula Rohringer! "best regards from Germany and kiss your hands"
Was removed very quickly. When asked what my father's collection was worth, he said without looking at it that it was of no interest to her. Then not !!! Was the first and last time.
Unfortunately my already second bad experience with the Dorotheum! The estimate of a pocket watch, was set a lot lower. It remains the bland aftertaste that must be sold at any cost-pay the seller. A few hundred yards away at Christie's, the consultation was very different and I felt in good hands there. Shame about a big name in this industry
I tried to sell my classic car through this auction but, despite myself, the head of the sector told me it was not possible. He said I live very far from Austria and it's better if I sell it in Italy. He replied after about a month.
Then I tried to sell a gem - stone and the sector manager replied by email that the gem was not of value. Then I tried to sell a sculpture and they didn't answer me at all. Then they told me that to sell at auction you need the License.
Based on my experience, I must deduce that they do not want to have any relationship with the Italians. When they see, (through the registration of personal documents,) and understand that you are Italian they always find some excuse to boigott you. There is also racism in Europe as it has also been seen in the United States lately.
AUSTRIA does not want to have any relationship with Italy, except commercial ones in its favor. leave this auction house alone, they will only make fun of you if they answer you.
Very nice building, and lots of auction items to be viewed. A nice place to visit if you are in the area.
Vienna s oldest auction house, a must visit for treasure hunters!
A fixed date for me when I am in the first district. There are some areas that I like to visit. Paintings, art objects, especially the offers of silver work are worth seeing. When jewelery, especially in the old pieces, there are sometimes very valuable worth seeing works and sometimes cheap bargains.
Pure withdrawn, call price online 1600 euros, in the auction 6600 euros because of online providers! Why are the call rates not updated before? People drive from abroad to Dorotheum then car was retrieved by the seller because he needs the car! Scored price 7800 euros online (where is buyer fee of 2.2%), car is not sold because offer corresponds to seller idea not? Hands off, you buy in private even cheaper.
I bought our wedding rings here. But instead of this being a special event, my experience with the staff at the Dorotheum flagship shop was awful. From the first day when we selected rings, we were treated rudely, the staff clearly showed no interest in us whatsoever and we ended up buying rings of wrong sizes. With good advice from the lady selling us the rings, I'm sure this would not have happened. Getting the ring resized (1 or two sizes, no engraving etc.) was refused at first without a horrendous fee. Eventually they agreed to do it free of charge, it took the goldsmith less than 5 min.
After only 2 months my ring broke. We were on a weekend at a spa when I noticed dark yellow spots on the white gold of the ring. Soon after that the ring just split up and showed a clear cut. Still don't know what caused this. I mean, we're talking about gold here. This shouldn't happen.
We came back asking what was wrong with the ring, how this could happen and if they can repair it. Instead of apologizing to us, the accused us of mishandling the rings. I'm working an office job and take the ring off when doing sports. I got really frustrated. At least this time it didn't need lots of arguing to get the ring fixed.
I'm currently waiting to see if the ring will stay in one piece this time. In any event, regardless of the bad luck we probably had with the rings... The staff is extremely unfriendly, will let you wait to take care of other customers. It's a very bad experience and I regret selecting this shop to buy our wedding rings.
PS: If you need something done in the workshop, most likely the goldsmith will be "on vacation" or "is sick for two weeks". Happened every time we needed something.
Update after 8 months: Ring broke again. Will contact a professional to have a look at the material... will keep you posted.
Ms. Spitaleri is doing a great job in advising and customer service, unfortunately my job was handled by the goldsmith very inattentive and trying to sell to me with rough scratches. Either you want to sell the customer for stupid or the house's own goldsmith should review their finished orders again before they go to the customer!
Very bad not recommended sorry my opinion who goes is your own fault at your own risk.
We visited the Dorotheum like a museum or like the treasury of a museum. And we liked that. We also had nice coffee. And cake eaten.
Rude + overbearing
Too bad for my lost time!
I have certainly left several 10,000 here and a nasty older lady has charged me 7 for a gold necklace, on polite request whether the ridiculous 7 can not be canceled, came only a "does not" am a customer since 2015 , I even regularly get books / brochures from the Dorotheum for exquisite jewelry, since, as already mentioned, I buy a lot of jewelry. I don't think I'll ever set foot in the Dorotheum again. Pity! But the building is very nice!
Viennese institution, you should not miss out on a tourist stroll, especially since the entrance is of course free.
A historical place, worth your visit. Two enormous floors filled with antiques, jewelry and art. If just to see the main auction hall.
Below any standards! beware from this auction house!
Quiet place to buy art, china, silver ... at affordable price ...
Always a great place to look for jewelry and other things and to buy them. Never been disappointed. A must for every visit to Vienna.
I wanted to offer my antique model train for auction here.
After a first phone call I should send photos of my things to (Mr. Reichel) for the first time, after which I received an answer after an incredible 4 weeks. My antique model railway things were then valued as flea market goods for 150 !!!!
Thank goodness I am not completely stupid, and have now put my things into another auction house for auction, where a minimum estimate of 10,000 was found. !!!
The Dorotheum saw me !!
Was at lunchtime in the jewelery department on the 2nd floor, the staff neither greeted me nor asked if they could help me, but only looked over with an appraisal. Apparently I was not dressed well enough or I was not of the right age group, because incoming seniors were warmly welcomed and asked. The cell phone or the current daily news was also more interesting than helping a potential customer. I left after 20 minutes ...
Dear Sirs and Madames,
unfortunately I didn't reach anyone by phone. I find it a scandal that today at 2:00 pm body parts of black people or people of color from colonial times are sold. This is not only extremely unsavory because the parts of the body (!) Are concerned, but above all it is highly offensive because only the origin of these human remains - Africa and South America - decides whether they can be sold as "collectibles". If it were body parts of the Habsburgs or other white people, this would be unthinkable. Colonial power structures will still be reproduced in 2017 - this is called post-colonial - the white supremacy is thus fixed and continued. With this auction, the Dorotheum plays an active role in maintaining this power system. The planned auction is trampling on the human dignity and rights of blacks and people of color!
I urge you to comment and to cancel the auction!
I'm pretty annoyed because the service is poor. I sold something at an auction. The amount was transferred only after repeated demand and that over a month after the sale, there was no explanation as to how the transferred amount is made up. I cannot recommend the house.
The consultant was nice and helpful, the rings ordered came earlier than planned.
Civil service as in the Empire as an involuntary soap opera
Well ... customer service is unfortunately not very big.
At least not in the online consultation.
I wrote the Dorotheum for the first time on 07.01.2019 and received only on 09.03.2019 an answer or completely nonsensical questions that were already answered in the first email.
I had responded to the email within two minutes and have been waiting for an answer ever since ...
My experience with an estimationist I found a total impudence! Has never been treated like that and felt like "annoying mob with worthless junk"! In another auction house nearby, I was friendly and above all rated correctly.
My subsequent complaint interested nobody. Also OK.
Engagement ring purchase:
I was with my brother in the "ring department" of the Dorotheum in Vienna, after all, we decided on an engagement ring (not exactly cheap). Then we were assured that the ring could easily be made one size or smaller.
When we asked the employee whether she had the invoice in the system, she tried to type in the Adler search system for over ten minutes before she gave up and got her manager. This too was equally unfriendly (also managed to find the invoice despite the customer number and name) and also assured us that the ring could not be changed.
(Another 4 weeks later, we happened to be at a Viennese Juwellier, and the language came on the ring, which changed it for us - even amazed at the inability of the Drorohtum - for 32 EUR.)
Online bidding:
This was done without major problems, registration is easy. Unfortunately, when the goods were picked up, the two 'handed out gentlemen' (opposite the cash desk) treated them again from 'above'. These too shone with ignorance and felt 'better' just because they work in the Dorotheum. Sad that you buy and buy things there several times, and the employees are still not specialists (but imagine it).
Very good experience and very well packaged goods for shipping. Thank you.
Delivered once and never again! Long waiting time despite a fixed appointment. Impersonal handover. Catalog descriptions incomplete. Didn't get a specimen copy of the catalog. Presentation for preview not as requested. Held as an online auction not previously communicated. To top it all off, the billing is only received in installments after urgent mail traffic! This is exactly how you lose customers and consignors!
Huge auction house with many departments
Great architecture
