When we arrive at the resort at 1:30 the check in time was 3:00 so we had to pay $10.00 US to be able to go and have lunch but we still did not get our room until 3:00 so that started our terrible holiday. It got worse after that, the rooms are old and the washrooms the taps are all rusted, the tiles are broken and the shower curtain did not fit so we had a water everywhere. The food is always the same and sometimes they put the same food on the breakfast buffet. When you go to the French a la carte restaurant you are presented with a bill on the way out in US funds. No one on the resort speaks French or English so when you ask for something they say uno momento so I learned a few words in Spanish and they still say uno momento. The beach are dirty and the vendors are all over, you are bothered every 5 minutes and they do not take no for an answer. We were leaving on Tuesday at 5:45 so we were told to ask for a box breakfast, when I went to the desk to ask for a box breakfast they asked for $5.00 US and I refused I told the girl that I paid for 7 days and not 5. All the washrooms on the resort smelled very bad.

The Hotel staff is not exactly friendly and very slow.
The rooms are old, dirty and falling apart.
The bathroom in my room was discusting, and the food is not very good, specially the breakfast.
You have to pay 10$ for internet extra per day.

The food is bad, very little varied and that makes you feel limited. The garden is very beautiful, but the beach looks somewhat deserted and it is uncomfortable for people to sell varieties selling you every 5 minutes.
The rooms are regular although the bathroom is small, but the stay is passable.
Drinks are limited too. The disco is a balcony and has no disco or D.
I really liked the little football near the towel house on the beach ...
For the price is fine and depends on who you go with clear ..

The service in general is good, although sometimes it fails. They tell you things that are too clear for the client's taste (you order beer and they tell you of course there is none). The rooms are comfortable within normal conditions, the bathroom has a flaw: sink outside and only give you 1 key per room.

If I had the chance I would return.

The rooms were crappy, there is no hot water, I've had better food at a Chinese restaurant, and if you have children be prepared to be hassled on which pool they can and cannot use. The more you tip, the quicker their charm turns on, but if you don't tip then they are sour, rude and annoyed. Good luck.

It is curious that some people have a horrible experience and others so pleasant. I have not stayed here but my experiences with the resorts in Puerto Plata is that normally the negative comments are those that are closer to the truth of the place. It is unfortunate that Dominicans complain that there is no tourism and then one reads the conditions of the hotels and quality of service and food and one wonders, will these people be so ignorant? They don't read the comments on these pages? Do not try to contact guests after they leave to see how it went?

My experience was really painful, I was surprised by the disaster I saw from the hot lobby where they require you to wait until three to give you the room and then when you go at the indicated time to receive it they tell you that it is not ready and they deliver it to you time they feel like it to them in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the public that is in the same conditions, the carnival show on Friday must change it already has a long time presenting and the crap that Saturdays do must discontinue it, do not accept that they are housed in the rooms of the building that is in front of the lobby, it is not always humid and really smelly that I was surprised in a bad way, it does not have snack service after two in the morning, that is when you leave the disco starved to death you must wait for breakfast, sorry to see those deplorable conditions in which Capella is the best hotel in the entire area hopefully pay attention to these recommendations so that they return to take the place that they had before.

I went there for President's day weekend about 3 years ago with my girlfriend. Now, this was my first resort EVER,so needless to say I was stoked. I am Dominican and my mother in the Capital(Santo Domingo) already ,so I was ready to host her for Dominican Mother's Day as well. Upon arrival,we were greeted by the front desk staff. They weren't really too friendly. Maybe it was because it was in the evening or something.

So, we got settled in and planned our time out. We decided to catch the show the resort does daily. The show was pretty cool. What was odd was that even though this was an all-inclusive resort and we could order whatever we wanted to drink, the service was slower. After checking out the scene,I saw that the folks that tipped the best got their drinks quicker. I tip,but don't feel the need to pay $3-5 dollars for drinks that are SUPPOSED to be included in my deal!

I noticed this trend throughout the stay there. The waitstaff were the same, even just to fill up a glass of water. I felt as if everyone who worked there expected money in exchange to any info they imparted.

The worst thing that happened was at the end when we checked out. I let my girlfriend do all the paperwork as I handled the cab that was coming to pick us up. On our way to the airport,I found out that my they charged us $100 for phone calls from our room! I know we didn't even use the phone, but she paid it anyway. Needless to say,I was incensed. That was ridiculous and unfair. It was a shame, too. I thought the resort was decent other than that. The food was not bad and the music played at the "night club" was good.

The sad thing is that I stayed at a resort in Cancun the next year and had a totally different experience. No one on the staff made me feel like I needed to tip them for asking directions or asking for the time.

Excellent customer service ... the food is very good, although being a small hotel there is not as much variety in dishes as in other larger hotels. Some minor details of simple repairs in the rooms.

Undoubtedly an excellent place to rest, nice beach, very pleasant and friendly service staff. The only bad thing is when the day comes to leave the rating should not lock the key at ten in the morning one is supposed to pay up the one and while you go to breakfast when you return you can not enter because they have locked the key, absurd but improbable without a doubt

Overall is decent, with two minor downside, Internet isn't free 10 dollars per day is the fee and only one login is provided, and power outages. I experienced one power outage , while i was asleep my wife told me there were two more outages , not a big deal to me but had to mention it.

I went for 10 days with my family. However my father is in a wheelchair and we had booked a handicap room. When we got to the room, it was the furthest thing from it. The room was old, falling a part and a below average sized room. the wheel chair couldn't even fit into the bathroom.

So we called front desk, and they managed to find a new room.
When we arrived at this new room, it was beautiful. Everything about it was great. We had a huge window, almost floor to ceiling. the walls were 12ish feet high. the bathroom was the size of the last room. The only issue was the view. we were facing a wall.

So if you go to this hotel, I highly recommend that you forget about the view, and get something not so close to the beach. we found those were the best rooms.

the food wasn't anything special. it wasn't bad though! They have 2 special restaurants, a French and Dominican. My family and I preferred just going to the buffet though. The choices were slim, and the food wasn't the best.

Activities wise, you'll never be bored. we always were doing something that we wanted. Whether it was laying near the pool and drinking margaritas, or going for a walk outside of the resort. If you have children, they will love the scuba diving. They have their own little shack for it. The tutors are amazing! and there's a little test at the end so you can become certified.

The other reviews were saying the staff was garbage. But what they seem to forget is they weren't raised the same as the staff. the staff were raised across the world and what is normal over there, could be frowned upon over here.

But of course, you always had the nicer staff who treated you amazing, and the "sour" ones.

Resort located in Juan Dolio about an hour from Boca Chica.,
Several pools, restaurants and relaxation areas with games.
All in the media, dedicated more to Dominicans who come at the weekend more than for tourists.
The beach is safe because it is very beautiful, with trees and the sea is fantastic.
Armed guards everywhere to indicate the high crime of Santo Domingo.
Great Dominican restaurant, located away from the beach.
Few people, since they all go to sea and eat Dominican and non-international cuisine.
Third real beach restaurant that turns into a nightclub in the evening; a little scarce, perhaps also depending on the season.
Evening entertainment repeats in weekly cycles.
I was expecting some salsa or bachata, with dancers.

Very nice beach. I liked that there were a number of local folk who were enjoying the beach as well as tourist. Great sandy beach, with ample sitting areas (as long as you are eating or drinking from a nearby establishment). Water wasn't too rough the day that I was there.
