Det Norske Teatret is a theater that plays drama on New Norwegian and Norwegian dialects. The theater is located in Oslo and was founded on November 22, 1912 with Hulda Garborg as chairman.
On October 6, 1913, it had its first performance. It was Jeppe on the Mountain by Ludvig Holberg, translated by Arne Garborg. The opening took place with King Haakon VII present. One of the first performances was marked by theatrical strokes in the theater itself, where national target youths and New Norwegian supporters ended up in a bloody fight. Some of the same thing also happened in 1948 when the theater performed Peer Gynt in New Norwegian translation.
For the first years, the theater held a house in the theater hall of the Bondeungdomslaget in Oslo, then moved it to Stortingsgata 16. There it held a house until it got a new building in Kristian IV's gate in 1985.
As the only major theater in Norway, the Norwegian Theater is privately owned. The state grants about NOK 100 million in annual grants. The farmer's youth team in Oslo is the largest owner, otherwise the target teams and local teams in Norway's Youth Team across the country most of them.
The theater received the Spellemannprisen 1979 in open class for As long as the ship can go.
The theater manager is Erik Ulfsby.
